  1. Don't make too many posts like this one and we'll be glad to have you  You don't want to wake Modzilla.
  2. If all this is true, season over. That's just too much to overcome. Not even the Cards could get through their best hitter plus two of their best four pitchers going down by mid-April.
  3. Call up Brandon (Sing) Sing before doing this, please.
  4. Just you wait, my youth movement strategy (Bay, Wright, Cantu, Gomes) will pay off.
  5. So this is all MABRY's fault! I knew he had a secret hidden CARDINALS agenda all along! /sarcasm
  6. We need to have a "Dugout" intervention for you TT.... NEVER! We may have found Soccer10k's true identity though.
  7. Just wondering, did Matos hurt himself on the field? Or was it off the field?
  8. I have to say that I loved seeing that, as well as Pierre excitedly clapping outside of the dugout right afterward. I have never, ever, ever bought into the clubhouse chemistry argument before, but if the Cubs somehow sneak into the playoffs this season, with this offense, I might have to.
  9. Todd Walker: .405/.422/.643 Luis Matos: .138/.167/.379, placed on DL today Discuss.
  10. this is not football. there is nowhere near the parity, and the schedule is not made years in advance. the schedule makers know exactly who they are matching up against who. good teams become bad and bad become good incrementally in baseball, with few exceptions (this years Marlins being one, and a fine example of what it takes to go from good to bad). you can pretend that it's hard to predict whether the WhiteSox, Twins and Braves will be good and the Rockies and Royals will be bad, but that's being pretty damn naive. while it may appear minute to you, this division very well could be decided by a game or two. the Cubs could go 9-6 against the Cards, play exactly equal to the Cards with every common opponent in baseball, and still lose the division. those 10 or so games where the Cubs have considerably harder competition very well could be the difference in this 162 game season. thus, in my opinion, a legitimate issue to piss and moan about. Believe it or not there is actually more parity in baseball than in football. Basketball is actually the worst. I wrote an article on it for my school paper a couple weeks ago. Since 1980: MLB: 18 WS Champs in 25 seasons (no 1994) NFL: 13 SB Champs in 26 seasons NBA: 7 Finals Champs in 26 seasons Parity can't be measured in terms of that magnitude.
  11. Knowing Wirtz... Knowing the Cubs... There's no possible way if the Cubs went on sale that Wirtz would pony up the money. He can't even pay for a competent hockey team. Think about that for a second.
  12. Not sure what you mean by the latter comment, NJ had the 3 seed already by virtue of winning the Atlantic. Playoff schedule: (ET) Game 1 - Saturday 4/22, 8 pm ESPN Game 2 - Monday 4/24, 8 pm TNT Game 3 - Thursday 4/27, 8 pm (TBA) Game 4 - Sunday 4/30, 1 pm (TBA) Game 6 will be on Thursday 5/4 if it happens - rendering my Game 6 tickets useless because I have a final on 5/5 :(
  13. This is one heck of a way for Walker to be guaranteed a spot in the lineup every day. Two words: John Mabry.
  14. Clutch hitting is not a myth. Identifying clutch hitting exclusively with Derek Jeter is a myth.
  15. I'll try to stay positive in the meantime. Someone posted the likely Lee-less lineup in the game thread... Pierre Hairston Aramis Barrett Jones Walker or Mabry (1B) Murton Cedeno And it's not a terrible lineup. If DLee can be back soon, we have the capability to stay afloat for a week or so. Get well soon DLee. And when can we start the injury thread? Anyone consider the possibility that starting one might end this crap? Because not having one sure as hell hasn't helped anything.
  16. The fact that it looks like they'll both be relatively ok notwithstanding... If someone walked up to you and you didn't know it already and told you that a certain MLB team lost their best (and one of THE best) lefty specialist as well as their franchise player who they just signed to a 4/58 contract extension ON THE SAME PLAY, would you guess any team other than the Cubs? I was at a friend's and his dish was acting up so I didn't see any of this game. Good comeback by the Cubs, and I'll be praying that DLee is ready to go this weekend, but I doubt it.
  17. I may be wrong, but I think the Cubs may have been the first, or among the first to broadcast games on the internet. I used to listen for free a long time ago, before MLB took over and ended up charging. Which should be illegal, BTW.
  18. Screw the relief mark, Dempster can go get Orel's 59-inning streak.
  19. The only way Ohman should be pitching in the 9th inning of a tight game is if it is in Triple A, lefty/lefty be damned.
  20. Welcome Nola, as you can tell from my average of over 20 posts a day, I really enjoy this site, as does everyone else on here, and I'm sure you will too!
  21. I wish some of the guys I have that a billion other people don't have (A-Rod, Dunn, Pujols, Thome) would start hitting. That's really the difference right now - the guys that weren't as commonly picked. And how about some of the people that weren't even selected? Ty Wigginton has 6 homers.
  22. Or better yet, just hire better personnel. These last few years have proven we can have a winning ball club without turning Wrigley into Jumbotron-land as long as we hire the right people.
  23. The Phillies (.880), Marlins (.922) and the Giants (.724) are the only NL teams that surrender a lower OPS to Pujols than the Cubs do (.972) over his career. Pujols Splits I suggest we worry about Edmonds more, because he roasts us no matter if he's hot or cold coming into the series on a regular basis.
