  1. Wisconsin is no good at all and when they went ahead 13-10 and ND had its 3rd-string QB in the game due to injuries. I had a brief moment of annoyance at the idea that Wisconsin was going to get a poll boost from beating a not-very-good ND team and then Michigan would in turn get a poll boost from beating them like a drum next week (which they will). Then Chris Tyree went 98 yards for a TD and at least I don't have to worry about that anymore.
  2. Conversely, it will be extremely easy for me to not watch the playoffs. Although STL will be the only team I flat-out make sure I don't watch. Their devil magic BS pisses me off enough without seeing it unfold in real time.
  3. I completely forgot STL had traded for JA Happ and if you're wondering whether his ERA with STL is barely over half of what it was before they traded for him without any reasonable explanation well do I have an absolutely-not-a-surprise for you
  4. Yeah, I'd be less worried about St. Louis if they were winning 96 games. Years like this where they don't have that much talent but pull off their devil magic horsefeathers anyway (this Jon Lester thing is officially absurd, he's sucked ass for the better part of 3 years but now he's going to wildly outpitch his FIP?) are the years where they manage to be there at the end.
  5. Jon Lester won #200 tonight and I want to vomit
  6. It might be an entire season before I'm used to this new number rule.
  7. ND/Wisconsin will probably be a snoozer even if it's close.

  9. Massive win for Carolina. With the pretty crappy Texans and potentially their backup QB on deck in 4 days, Panthers could start 3-0 which would be just peachy.
  10. I already know St. Louis is going to win that playoff and probably beat SF in the LDS too just to piss me the hell off
  11. Seattle just had the ASG in 2001. I'm sure MLB is going to give one to Atlanta's new park as soon as they fix that voting rights crap too, even though Atlanta's previous stadium had it the year before Seattle last did.
  12. I'm not saying Helton was Saban but for his own fan base having no faith in him, but it's always been interesting to me that he won a Rose Bowl in his first full season and a Pac-12 title in his second and by the middle of his third season everyone wanted him fired and never stopped.
  13. It's as if he's been a productive but irratic player for his entire career! He's up to 4.4 WAR. What is a little odd is that in his entire time with the Cubs I'm not sure I remember any bad base running - forgetting the number outs earlier this year not withstanding - I'm thinking of taking an extra base or trying to score - he seemed to have that uncanny timing-spidey sense that told him he could make it. There obviously was some but I feel like they were few and far between - however I think I have seen 3 or 4 clips of bad base running in his time of the Mets - getting thrown out at 3rd for the 3rd out, doubled off on a bloop that was easily caught stuff I just don't remember him doing with the cubs. Rose colored glasses maybe. He definitely did the latter once this year. That was when Ross benched him and caused a kerfuffle.

  15. This did not help the ND outlook, but it was a hilarious finish.
  16. If it helps, the likely multiple Notre Dame home losses the rest of the way will all air on NBC. This was a one-off, for this season at least.
  17. Not official yet but they're all going to accept. Big 12 isn't going to be as good as the other 4 power leagues but it might be the most fun.
  18. Early spread is only -5 or -6 on that one, which strikes me as odd.

  20. For all the hype around DC Marcus Freeman (hype I am completely in on, FTR), his first game featured as many 60+ yard plays given up as Clark Lea surrendered in 3 years, and more regulation points allowed than Lea had in all but one game of his 3 years. Hopefully it's just an adjustment period. Several top 10 teams looked less than perfect in week 1 so I'm not super concerned, but certainly a lot to fix. Jack Coan is awesome, though.
  21. Graham Mertz was absolutely brutal in that game. Felt like every single red zone pass was into triple coverage. But obviously PSU defense gets some credit for making him look bad too. Let's hope they look past my Ball State Cardinals next week.
  22. They tested negative. Guessing just a precaution after Jed and Ross tested positive.
  23. That's also a good point. One would hope there would be a mechanism wherein guys who make the bigs very early would hit FA sooner than that.
  24. It does seem like those types would be the collateral damage in that proposed system. They definitely wouldn't get as many chances as they currently do. That being said, that seems like a fairly reasonable and equitable solution, which means I'm probably missing something as there's no way the owners would actually propose something that acceptable this early in the process.
  25. Temple/Rutgers moved from tonight to Saturday afternoon because of now-Tropical Storm Ida causing floods in the Northeast.
