  1. 2. You think this is a 2006 thing? This problem has been around for a long time. I spent several posts explaining that this is a long-term problem. Do you even read what I write, or just argue for arguements' sake? It's hard to read what you write because it makes so little sense. You think there's been high turnover by leaders, when Andy and Jim were around forever. You don't want to spend money on this team, but you think the talent is very close to contending. What exactly are you advocating? You are all over the place. You have no idea how a baseball organization runs. Hendry doesn't tell Wilken who to draft, for example. When Hendry's job title changes, his responsibilities change. So does what he can be held accountable for. When someone isn't left in a position long enough to evaluate the results, it's pretty hard to blame him for everything. So you think it is a complete conicidence that Hendry is a good friend of former ND baseball coach Paul Maineri, and the Cubs have just happened to pick ND players with high-round draft picks two out of the last three years? Of course Hendry has an impact on who we draft. How many have been drafted from Creighton by the Cubs? What do you mean?
  3. Um, no, sorry. The one with the theory is the one that needs to support the theory. Theories by definition are not proven, they are merely supported, and there is OVERWHELMING statistical and physical evidence that making young pitchers throw a lot of pitches will result in breaking down quickly. How the heck do you think Mark Fidrych's career was derailed so quickly? Or for that matter, the dozen or so other names that CubinNY among others has thrown at you to show you it probably isn't a good idea to abuse pitchers? They've given you plenty of evidence, and you haven't given us anything other than citing that Bartolo Colon happened to pitch a lot without injury for 8 years.

  5. As utterly random and baseless as you can get. jason shmidt http://www.baseball-reference.com/s/schmija01.shtml Curt Schilling http://www.baseball-reference.com/s/schilcu01.shtml Randy Johnson http://www.baseball-reference.com/j/johnsra05.shtml Pedro Martinez (see years 2001 and 2006) http://www.baseball-reference.com/m/martipe02.shtml The infamous Ernie Brogilo (traded for Lou Brock) http://www.baseball-reference.com/b/brogler01.shtml You can look up the rest. The number of innings and the increased likelihood of injury is self-evident. Sorry, but what does this prove? Am I supposed to now go and find a half-dozen players with 3000+ pitch counts over several years who haven't been injured? Good luck finding any.
  6. I would love, love, love ARod on this team. I just don't see why the Cubs should have to give up a guy three years younger who is about as good to get him.
  7. No one said Z would break down "next year". But there's certainly plenty of reason to believe he will do so before most pitchers would.
  8. I'm not a huge fan of trading Barrett, but he is thirty years old...in any case it would certainly be an example of selling high since Barrett's trade value will probably never be higher than it is right now.
  9. You wouldn't trade ARam for ARod? I can see Z and DLee, but you GOTTA deal Ramirez for ARod. ARam is 3 years younger than ARod and puts up comparable numbers. ARam's OPS this season was .912 and ARod's was .914. ARam hit 3 more homers this year. ARam drove in only two fewer runs than ARod did despite being on a spectalularly worse team. ARod does get on base a little more (.421 and .392 the last two years compared to ARam's .358 and .352), but ARam is now entering (or has recently entered) his prime, while ARod is leaving his. At best, the two are a wash. So if you make me pick I'll take the one that's already here and, by all acounts, wants to be here.
  10. That's a good point. I've bandied about the idea of a best movie poll by Genre, but never been motivated to really flesh it out. Best Comedy would be an awesome one to have. I could see NSBB posters coming to blows over that one. In other words, let's do it! :D
  11. There wasn't really any time for their to be a market for Glendon. One site I'm looking at has Glendon being signed on Halloween last year. I'm not sure that's quite right, but I know it was before free agency actually started. I'm sure somebody would have given Glendon at least a couple million dollars last year, just like somebody will give Jason Marquis that money this year. Marquis sucks, but comparing Rusch's career to his is doing Glendon a big favor.
  12. I also think he'll want that big contract that he thinks he deserves, and the Cubs would be nuts to offer it to him. The Padres might lose Roberts and Cameron. They might offer up a lengthy deal for a guy like Pierre. They will want someone who can cover a lot of ground in CF and can lead off. Don't forget the White Sox, Phillies or Rockies either. They have all said they would want him. As far as I am concerned they can have him. Pierre was a Dusty boy and he said he wanted Dusty to stay so much he can go with him. I would love to see Pierre on the South Side.
  13. From what I've seen it seems pretty much a given that Pierre will go into free agency, which means he is gone because I'm pretty sure that he will get more money than what Hendry will offer.
  14. I don't recall hearing anything to suggest Rusch was pursued by anyone.
  15. Don't forget, they have Pedro and El Duque too but they're injured.
  16. I like this part... I hate that part. Fox games of the week just means I can only watch a Yankees or Mets game. I get Giants/Dodgers/A's games every Saturday. And I get Cubs or Cardinals games usually, which is why I like it.
  17. Please let the Mets win this series. Maine looks like a really good pitcher.
  18. TBA's are in. I don't anticipate ND having much trouble with UCLA...ND is 25-5 following bye weeks since 1984, and two of those losses were to top-ranked USC teams in 2004 and 2005. I won't see the game though because I will be at Ball State... ...watching Western probably plaster us. After what they did to Wolfe it's entirely possible that we may rush for negative 60 yards on Saturday. Then again, BSU has a tendency to make things very interesting against favorites when at home (see: BC 2004, NIU 2004, BG 2005, IU 2006), so we'll see. The Cards are pretty much done in the MAC West since they'd have to win out coupled with three CMU losses to win the division, so it's all for pride (and maybe the third MAC bowl tie-in) at this point.
  19. There are 10 prize packs. I finished 11th of Premium members. Way to go, me.
  20. I've got coverage maps. http://www.gribblenation.net/nflmaps/07-FOX-E.gif http://www.gribblenation.net/nflmaps/07-CBS.gif http://www.gribblenation.net/nflmaps/07-FOX-L.gif I get to see Carolina...again. :D
  21. Just landed four BSU-Michigan tickets for two weeks from Saturday. I can't wait to check out the Big House for myself.
  22. It's not at all out of the question that he just said that because he wanted to avoid tampering charges.
  23. FWIW, Buck and McIdiot talked about the ARod to the Cubs possibility on tonight's broadcast.
  24. why? there won't be any undefeated teams in the SEC. If the Big 10 gets bashed year in and year out for beating up on each other, then the SEC should too SSR hates the SEC love around here, methinks. Him and Cuse have gotten rather sick of it lately :P
