  1. I wonder how much of it has to do with Hendry's inability to have a consistent philosophy on how to build a team. Since we build most teams off of last year's World Series winner, seems like some teams play to Wrigley's strengths, while others don't.
  2. I'm hoping Rendon continues to struggle I don't think he's struggling as much as it's he's just not getting pitched to. Everything I've read said he's not dropping past 2nd, unless another bigtime injury happens basically. From ESPN's Draft Blog:
  3. I'm hoping Rendon continues to struggle
  4. Possibly? Really? First, for the most part, the joke is that most of the RealGMers are acting like saying that 10/10 or 9/10 is about right. Can we stop acting like that team was invincible? Saying they'd lose 10/10 is pretty bad. Saying the current team would POSSIBLY take a game or two is almost as bad. The 91 team won 74% of their games against the whole league. The current Bulls are a title contender. Not league average. I mean what in the hell planet do we live on where people think it's reasonable to expect ANY team to win 10/10 games in any scenario, much less 10 games vs. an elite (likely 60 win) team? Do people not understand probabilities at all (granted, in small sample sizes anything can happen, but we're talking about expectation)? You can't just look at the records, the matchups heavily favor the '91 team. The '91 team could put Pippen or Jordan on Rose. And no one on the current team could come close to guarding Jordan (Brewer is probably the best bet). If you put the rules in place that you have now, '91 Jordan is unstoppable. Grant could handle Boozer, while Boozer could most certainly not handle Grant. And Paxson was a legitimate NBA basketball player, so he has an edge over Bogans. Today's team would most likely take a few games, but I'd pick the '91 team every time.
  5. Not saying Young would be a good pickup, but it's a little simplistic to look at Young's OPS away from Arlington and think that's how he'll produce. Holliday always had some ridiculous splits with Coors. And anecdotally, it seems like most players (not named Adrian Gonzalez) tend to do worse away from their home park.
  6. Who exactly are you talking about? I don't think Miguel Cabrera is available.
  7. That doesn't really make sense. He was originally paid that money because he was the #2 pick and a LT. Now he's neither. Holding out for that type of money will leave him unemployed. He'll get paid for what he is: a pretty good guard. He may get a slight bump due to his name, but nothing too terrible.
  8. In a perfect world, it should be Leon Durham, Alex Gonzalez, and Jim Hendry. In a perfect world, those 3 wouldn't exist. I can't hate on Leon. He was my favorite player as a kid. When Mark Grace "replaced" him (or so I saw it as a kid), I stopped watching the Cubs for a while. He had himself a very good career, but he was our Buckner. Its kind of surprising how Bill Buckners error is so legendary, but Durhams, which was just as crucial, despite being in the NLCS instead of the series is not. Everyone talks about goats, black cats, and foul balls, but Durhams error seems to squeak through the cracks. As does Alex Gonzalez
  9. Grant Johnson was the Jeff Samardzija of the Northern League last year. Fitting.
  10. And even more coming off after 2012 with Zambrano likely not vesting the option for 2013, Dempster, Byrd and Marshall also coming off the books as well. That's another 40m. Isn't Dempster a FA after this coming season? Dempster has a 14m PLAYER option for 2012. I suppose he could elect to become a free agent, but I'm inclined to believe he'd pick up that option unless he pitches out of his mind this year. And if the Cubs can actually produce some serviceable big leaguers at several positions, it would make affording Pujols even easier. But, I just couldn't imagine the Cardinals not working something out with him. They had to have him in mind when they were signing all these other long term deals. Right? Unless they figured that he'd give them another discount. Something like 6/150.
  11. It will be interesting to see how he does in AAA this year. When he was drafted, he was known for having great tools but being raw, so it's possible he's a late-bloomer.
  12. i don't think atlanta will finish ahead of orlando i think the hawks will finish 5th with the bulls and magic battling it out for 3rd i'm still worried about the knicks getting melo and then having to face them in the first round. This Melo to the Knicks thing. What can the Knicks give the Nuggets that would even come close to compensating for Melo? Denver's going to get snowjobbed on that deal, big time. If they get more than a trade exception and two crappy first round picks, then it's a successful trade.
  13. Is there any chance Rendon falls to us?
  14. The Mets owners also just got sued for $300 million, and Frank McCourt just lost more than that.
  15. At least with the second one you can see why the ref would think it's a foul. If the first video is a true foul, the refs would have to call something almost every possession.
  16. Or just take money from the scouting/draft budget.
  17. Yes, that career minor league OPS of .708 is getting the job done. Theriot had some bad minor league numbers and he managed a few decent big league season. He's still not a good player but he played better in the big leagues. Not saying Barney will follow suit but can't rule it out. Theriot's bad numbers had more to do with the fact that he was a switch hitter for a lot of his minor league career. He was always pretty solid when hitting right-handed
  18. Not really sure why he deserves it. His numbers aren't very good and he's the main reason the Heat aren't a dominating force because he gets knocked around in the paint. Boozer>>>Bosh.
  19. Strange rankings. I'd rather have everyone in 23-27 than everyone in 18-22. Kind of surprised Wallach didn't make it.
  20. Kaepernick fascinates me. He's very much a developmental type QB, but he has really nice physical tools and I liked what I saw from him at Nevada. If the Cubs were to pass on the first round QBs, Kaepernick would probably be my second choice behind Devlin in that second group. I'd want to see them go after an Orton, Palmer or another stopgap for a couple of years while they developed Kaerpernick, though. I know the Cubs like drafting football players, but...
  21. I wouldn't hesitate. If there's anyone that can have sustained success in old age, it's Pujols (of course, he won't be worth $30 million at age 41).
  22. Whenever I hear Todd Wellemeyer, all I think about is Harold Reynolds and John Kruk on Baseball Tonight after his first start, saying that while the Cubs have a lot of great young arms (Prior, Wood, Zambrano and Cruz), Wellemeyer very well might be the best.
  23. Are you flipping high? Aaron Rodgers had a QB rating in the 50's yesterday and was fairly ineffective after the first quarter. How the hell is he the reason the Packers advanced past the Bears in the NFC title game, which is where Cutler led his team? He's the guy who has said for a few years that if he had to win one game he wants Big Ben because he's a winner and finds ways to get it done. I don't think that's completely outlandish. He's surely said dumber things than that.
  24. Looks like Hendry plans on cutting/releasing/trading Soriano before his contract is up:
