  1. In that case let's think about ways to get Jesus Montero. I don't think there's a pitcher in our organization that could get us Montero.
  2. that person should be kicked in the throat. riley recruited two all stars to play there and then sat back and watched them win a bunch of games. what a genius. Its a silly award anyways. Are we awarding it for one great offseason? Building a team is a long process that involves years of planning in advance. If we were going to give it for just moves within a calendar year, it arguably could have been Walsh to get it. I mean for Gar to get it kind of means you are rewarding him for taking Rose 3 years ago, not to mention the salary planning he did for 2010 the past two years. Same for Riley. In my mind you're awarding him for bringing in Thibs, bringing over Omer, forming the bench mob, and of course stealing Scals from Boston James and Bosh > Those moves, save for Thibs Yea, you can try and discredit Riley by saying he lucked into it and it was the players who planned, but he put it together, luck or not. You can say the Bulls had better improvement in their results, but thats ignoring the huge leap Rose took. I mean its close, I don't know who I'd vote for if I had the opportunity. I may even vote for Walsh, as I said. Just seems odd to have a one season award for an executive, I don't know. He also gave all that money to Joel Anthony and Mike Miller. Great job, Pat!
  3. Did we ever find out why he left his last one?
  4. Jackson is clearly hurt. Just get an MRI and get the surgery done, already.
  5. Who is still saying that? Everything I've heard has been the opposite.
  6. Silva played professionally in Cuba which probably helps the Cubs feel he's ready for the challenge of Daytona. Despite Silva's flaws, he's probably the best option to play CF in Daytona. Right. And he's basically done what's expected of him. Good contact, no patience whatsoever, little power. Speed has been a disappointment though.
  7. Given the general lack of offense in baseball this year, I think Beltran's price could be pretty high for a one year rental.
  8. Im not saying for the future. Im speaking as a rental. Im still al about Pujols or Fielder for next year. By then, Brett jackson should be taking over CF, with Byrd in RF if hes still around, if not, Colvin or Option C. All Im saying is that IF Hendry can pull a rabbit out of a hat, get Beltran for a reasonable price, and let him walk at the end of they year, I would be all for it. Id be OK trading some solid prospects, but nothing along the lines of Jackson, McNutt, or Cashner. I want to enjoy this season. 1 elite bat could make that happen. Its not like wed be trying to build around him with the Astros or Padres. Enjoy the season by watching Starlin Castro. There's no reason to trade anything for a rental, this team has too many holes. They need to be in the business of building as many assets as possible, not giving them away.
  9. Exactly. Let Rose "guard" Bibby and focus on wearing out Wade on offense. I hope Deng plays Lebron better than he did in last year's playoffs, because Lebron completely abused him in that series.
  10. Muskat tweeted that Jackson is seeing a hand specialist in Chicago :banghead: :banghead: See you in August, Brett
  11. I think they had a pretty decent season until they started giving away their best minor leaguers for DeRosa, Holliday and others. It's in pretty bad shape now I think, but I don't know if it's more because of Jocketty, Mozeliak or both. They've never really had a deep one, but they always seem to have one or two really good prospects. Right now it's Shelby Miller. They've always used their farm system to acquire talent from other teams (Edmonds, Rolen, Holliday, etc.). Either way, it's been productive for them.
  12. Not sure why people still think he'd be a good GM, other than the fact Billy Beane likes him. He wasn't particularly good in LA. He wasn't particularly bad either. On the plus side you have: Trading Jason Frasor for Jayson Werth Trading Steve Colyer for Cody Ross Trading Juan Encarnacion, LoDuca, and G. Mota for Choi, Billy Murphy, and Brad Penny Trading Reggie Abercrombie, Koyie Hill, Billy Murphy for Steve Finley and Brent Mayne Signed Carlos Santana Signed Jeff Kent Signed JD Drew Signed Derek Lowe Dumped Shawn Green's contract Negative side: Trading Dave Roberts for Henri Stanley Releasing Joakim Soria Lost Shane Victorino in Rule 5 Signed Jose Valentin Sold Dave Ross Failed to sign supplemental pick Luke Hochevar in '05 To date, Blake DeWitt is best success story from his 2 drafts. Yeah, he definitely made some good moves. To me, his two major mistakes were failing to close the Randy Johnson deal and failing to hire a manager (which I believe got him fired). I thought there were reports that other GM's found him very difficult to deal with, too.

  14. At what point does Brooks Raley move to outfield?
  15. Middle infield and relief have been our only real strengths this year. My guess is that he'll overpay for something lefthanded, either a pitcher or hitter.
  16. I heard Szczur's ankle injury has healed a lot in the last week which seems to coincide with his spike in SBs. You'd obviously like to see more power from Szczur, but so far his debut has been really good. More BB than K's and 6-6 on stolen bases. He's definitely legit, and a much better investment than Samardzija. I think he'll start hitting for more power in the second half. If that happens, I have to think you'd consider him the #2 prospect behind McNutt (assuming Jackson is brought up). I right now have Ha ahead of Szczur. With the power and age difference, I can see that. If Ha keeps the power and walks up, he's definitely ahead of Szczur.
  17. Or there's all the obvious changes in his swing and approach at the plate. Unless you somehow think that is PED-enhanced, too. Why does it have to be one or the other? Remember when Sammy Sosa changed his swing in 1998?

  19. Luis Gonzalez's career almost perfectly mirrors Bautista's done so far 9 seasons with a .268/.341/.432 (.774) line, then he goes to Arizona and the next 3 seasons with a .324/.408/.593 (1.001) line i don't even remember if he was linked with steroids, but a lot of that team was suspicious, Jay Bell most of all And Steve Finley
  20. If their intention is to shed payroll, why would they want somebody who's about to get expensive? That's why I'm not sure if they'd do it. But he's not going to be as expensive as Wright, and maybe they'd feel better getting a legit All-Star instead of a bunch of prospects.
  21. is he worth watchimg? I don't think so. Seems like he has good raw power, but he's somewhat old and has no concept of the strikezone.
  22. The problem with that is we're losing a lot of the value of going from Aramis to Wright by dropping from Soto to Wellington Castillo/Koyie Hill/Max Ramirez. As much as I'd hate to trade McNutt so shortly after dealing Archer, I'd almost rather include him than Soto. We've got a lot of good, young starting pitchers floating around the minors - we don't have any catchers who will give us an .850+ OPS. Soto is the same age as Wright and is about to get expensive. I'd much rather have Wright over the next 5-6 years considering how catchers tend to break down (and Soto already is a bit injury-prone). I don't want to trade him, but the Cubs should sell high for once if given the opportunity to get someone like Wright. And I disagree that we have a lot of good young starting pitchers in our system. Other than McNutt, it's basically a lot of guys that project to be middle/back-end starters, and you can't compete if you're relying on guys like that.
  23. I wonder if they'd do something like Soto, Vitters and Ha.
  24. Apparently the Wilpons have been pretty honest about their situation from the beginning, whereas McCourt has continually lied to MLB.
