  1. Ridiculous. Now he can coast to 8.
  2. Yeah, Venezuela has like the bikini shorts. I was shocked...but not disappointed.
  3. Trading 3 guys that are free agents at the end of the year =/= firesale.
  4. The French saying they were going to beat the Americans in the 4x100 relay, and then the world record holder (French) not being able to hold a significant lead in the last 50m.
  5. Haha, yeah, I noticed that too. But, it's nice to see a team so proud to win a medal. The U.S. and China have grown so used to Bronze medals being a defeat that it's refreshing to see a team proud just to stand on the podium.
  6. LOL NSBB is funny today. I don't get the negativity in here one bit. Remember: Game Threads have to do with the game, not the season. Today Fuku is 0-4 with a K and 4 LOB... so yeah, today he sucks. He hasn't been very good for the season either, lol.
  7. My guess is he'll have a pretty similar season. He's not a great quarterback, but he's the product of a system. Great #1 receiver (Edwards), a sure-handed 3rd down receiver (Jurevicius), a great TE (Winslow), great offensive line, strong running back, etc. Add to that the addition of Donte Stallworth and another year in the league for Joe Thomas. I bet I could throw for 3k.
  8. He gave the Cardinals a 1% chance of the division and a 3% of the wildcard despite currently being 1 game back, haha. No bias there, eh? I'm biased against mediocre baseball teams. The Cardinals are probably the 7th best team in the NL, and IIRC have a tough schedule down the stretch. And I can't believe you'd seriously give the Rangers/A's combo a 1 in 20 shot at the West. Unless team plane crashes are more likely than I think. I realize that the Cardinals aren't a great team. However, saying that a team like the Mets are more than 5x more likely to win the wildcard is pretty crazy.

  10. They have the best team not from Chicago in the NL. Not to mention their schedule is ridiculously easy. They face 2 teams above .500 the rest of August. The Dodgers (1 game over) and a 2-game series with St. Louis. They play 10 games this month against the 3 bottom dwelling teams in their respective NL divisions. They shouldn't have a problem making the playoffs.
  11. I don't know much of the history of the Pirates and their trades, but why wouldn't their minor leagues be pretty well stacked? They're a small market team.
  12. Didn't they win like 10 games last year? My sleeper is the Rams in that putrid division. I think Stephen Jackson is in a contract year. Yeah, they won 10. The Browns should be good this year, but the biggest question is the secondary. Everything else is solid. Very solid. As for predictions: First team to triple digits in the Cowboys/Browns season opener wins.

  14. Considering they have two of the best corner OFs in the league (at least for this year) in Carlos Quentin and Jermaine Dye, I'd have to say no. Do they have a good DH too nilo? I wonder since Manny wants to leave if he'd accept being just a DH as well. Thome.
  15. Good money is on a split, although I wouldn't be surprised at all if either team took 3/4. With those pitching match-ups, it's easy to see either team doing so. However, I'd be shocked if there was a sweep one way or another.
  16. Sorry, but I've got to root for the Brew-crew for the first game simply because of Sabathia. But, I'm with the cubbies the rest of the series!
  17. 4IP makes you a stud, eh?
  18. Hell of a question. I believe he was injured to start the year (hammy?), and they believe that contributed to his lack (and "lack" I mean disappearance) of power numbers. But, there were some serious trade talks involving him, so maybe there is more to it than the Indians are leading on to. I hope not, I love Victor. He's a great guy in the clubhouse, does a good job with the pitchers, and he's a really hard worker. didn't he tweak that hammy runnings the basepaths during the first game of the season? Yeah, you're right. I've heard that they don't believe he's been right ever since. Which is pretty sad because I really like Victor. 19. By my standards, 5 innings of 2 hit, 10 K pitching is a quality start, you'd be stupid to think otherwise, official rulings aside. i don't think that a guy who enters a ballgame 4-1 ballgame with the bases empty, 2 outs in the 9th inning and gets one out has really saved much of anything. are we going to stop referring to that as a save as well? likewise, let's stop saying that a pitcher on the wrong end of a 1-0 game got the loss. the offense got the loss; that pitcher was a winner all the way. Since you brought it up..... That isn't a save situation. (Before anyone posts to argue, go look it up) Hrm. I wasn't aware. For anyone that cares (wiki):
  20. I love the fact that this could be a potentially huge steal for the Indians. And, even if it isn't, it wont really hurt us in any way. I'm excited to see this guy pitch. I don't know much about him other than his big season in '05.

  22. Yeah, it has been a tough year, but, I wouldn't exactly say that we're in the midst of a fire sale. CC had to go. We knew we weren't going to retain him after the season and we certainly aren't going to compete for anything this year. After years of John Hart and Mark Shapiro letting super-star players like Albert Belle, Manny Ramirez, and Jim Thome walk with nothing to show for it, it's nice to see some simple, smart trades. The Indians can still re-sign Blake after the year, and both parties (Shapiro and Blake) have hinted at the fact that it might happen. So, the only 2 (major) trades that were made were just smart moves, shipping off unnecessary players for good, young prospects. Given, with the uncertainty of Hafner and Martinez and the pending loss of Byrd, we have become a team that is focusing much more on our younger ball players. But, that doesn't mean we can't compete in the Central next year. Especially with Cliff Lee and Fausto anchoring our rotation. Realistically, we're probably 2-3 years away from any real run. Ah, the life of an Indians' fan.
  23. My Cavs have been playing good basketball lately. LeBron is playing absolutely lights out, and he's getting a ton of support offensively. It's good to see. However, we're losing games on the defensive side of the ball, which is crazy seeing as it was our strong point last year. Missing Andy hurts as far as that goes. And Hughes.
  24. Haha, unreal thread.
