  1. My biggest gripe is with management and coaching. Everything else trickles down from that incompetent bunch. Ownership has done little to make the situation better and they've done nothing to force complete change on the franchise. Even the hire of Emery a former Bears scout was pretty classic and typical Bears
  2. Yeah the wheels are slowly coming off this train. The Bears cannot afford to lose Sunday's game. A short week, Jared Allen and the holiday has me worried.
  3. Bears mocked Jonathan Cooper in the first round with the USC CB in the second round.
  4. I'm not really sure what the point of this comment is. Does Biggs want to take the role of the "you have to accept reality" Cubs writer who basks in the glory of a complete rebuild? The fact is that yes actually, talent overhauls can be done quite quickly by competent NFL personel men and coaches. The Bears have enough talent right now to be 7-3, so they are not completely devoid of talent. There are quick fixes to patch the problem, if not completely solve it. Schemes can be designed weak to weak to take advantage of opponents and at least partially offset your own issues. If SF can scheme an offense with a backup QB to completely dominate the Bears defense, despite being a poor pass blocking team themselves, then it can be done. Lovie is to be blamed for the offense in so far as he preached defense, special teams and running the ball above passing for so long. And he is to be blamed for his own poor decisions in drafts when he got more power after the super bowl. And he is to be blamed for the coaching deficit they have on the offensive side. But that doesn't negate the fact that Tice is the GD offensive coordinator, and that Tice gave his thumbs up to the Carimi acquisition, and that Tice tossed aside his best lineman from last season, and that Tice has insisted he could get more out of this line than he has gotten. It should not have taken as long as it has taken for the offensive line to get fixed. And it should not take very long in the future to fix it. If it does take time, heads must role. This is a fixable and addressable issue if the Bears finally decide to actually address it with competent decision makers at the control I agree, however it is not fixable quickly if Lovie is to remain as Head Coach. He has not proven that he can adjust and hire competent position coaches let alone quality OCs. Lovie is also a horrible talent evaluator and every time he hand picks a player to play his scheme, that player fails. I think for this organization to take that next step and embrace 2012 big boy offense, Lovie Smith must go. It doesn't help that Emery had a questionable draft his first time around. Outside of Jeffrey, I've been disappointed with the draft selections.
  5. Cutler unsure if he's playing Sunday.
  6. You have a twisted idea of "the bright side". Being a Cubs and Bears fan has made me a twisted person.
  7. On the bright side, if the Bears lose again and again perhaps we get a new coach. The Lovie era leaves a lot to be desired.
  8. It really was. So many things that have been troubling at times in the past, or in some cases at all times, showed up last night. Lost in it all was another splendid waste of timeouts by both the offense and defense. And it lacked everything the Bears have done well. Couldn't defend the pass. Couldn't get to the QB. Couldn't get turnovers. A perfect storm. The Bears cannot score points this season with their offense. I had the game off by halftime. It was a bloodbath and a perfect summary of the Bears organization from the talent gap to the coaches gameplan. The holes on this team are killing us.
  9. Classic Bears offense tonight. Not surprised by the outcome.
  10. The ESPN pregame is horrible
  11. Wow....wonder why? I don't feel confident going into this game. I feel like it'll be close and we will make more mistakes then the 49ers. I hope I'm wrong and I can celebrate a victory tonight
  12. Wow RG3 is good
  13. The Lions suck. Too many drops and horrible passes.
  14. Wow that guys a bum.
  15. ... Yes, those are things that happen when protection breaks down. Rivers looks like [expletive] and his arm strength is in question. That is not due to protection issues.
  16. Philip Rivers has watched his O-line deteriorate along with weaker replacements for LaDanian Tomlinson and Vincent Jackson and it's definitely no longer the explosive offense he had previously. But Rivers has deteriorated himself with bad footwork, mechanics and forcing throws into double coverage. AJ Smith has done a shitty job of putting good players around him consistently.
  17. Oh, so it's as simple as "making better decisions?" Well, that's an easy fix. And he's been nowhere near "the best situation" in his time with the Bears. Not even close. I'm stunned (not really) that someone like you, as vocal as you've been about the OL and the playcalling, would suddenly reverse course like this. How am I reversing course? I think that he's been dealt a crappy stable of talent overall, but this year he does have a pro bowl caliber WR and RB. He was also given Jeffrey who's an upgrade over Hester. Bennett is a decent #3. Making better decisions is something that could comedown to the mechanics of playing QB and dissecting film in the off season putting more work into your craft. Aikman and Young harp on the fact that Cutler hasn't shown much improvement in mechanics and Aikman pointed out that Cutler is not a QB that has anticipation of a play but simply just throws to the open receiver lacking an overall feel in the game. I do think there is some truth to those statements. The fact that this subject is so debatable and there can be a wide range of differing opinions is interesting. Dissecting Cutler's time here is not very easy.
  18. You do realize that at least half of the league has O-line problems and that there are really only 2 teams with top notch fronts.
  19. But who here has ever said he doesn't make bad choices and has his obvious flaws? My main issue is that until they got Marshall his team had seemingly done next to nothing to maximize his strengths and instead practically went out of their way to set things up to exacerbate his flaws. I agree the team has generally done a horrible job maximizing his talents. But my point is that, even with one of the best receivers in the league and a fully healthy Matt Forte, he's still not playing that great. People have always like to say "well, if he had a real NFL O-line, some WR's, and a good OC, he'd be putting up great numbers." I'm just not sure if that's true anymore. The excuses are starting to run out. Regardless, I still think he's an above-average QB, and I hope the Bears keep him until there's a clear opportunity to get someone better than him. I just have my doubts that he'll reach that elite or near-elite status we all hoped for when the Bears got him. I agree with this 100%. Cutler will never find himself in the best situation, but he has to put up better numbers and make better decisions.
  20. Come on now... If you're going to evaluate his 3.5 years in Chicago how would you summarize it using statistics? It's obvious he didn't have much to work with starting out. Follow the logic here. He wants a statistic to evaluate Cutler's performance as a Bear and admits that it's tough to use his individual stats to evaluate him because he didn't have much to work with the first couple of years. So he then proposes that team W-L is the best way to judge Cutler. What the hell? What I'm getting at is that with Cutler you have an interesting case study of trying to evaluate his time in a Bears uniform. Im playing devils advocate in order to spark a diwcussion. Yes he's the best Bears QB in franchise history but that doesn't mean dick because our history of quarterback play is horse [expletive]. His statistics aren't very good partly because he hasn't had a whole lot of quality skill players to work with and partly because his decision making and mechanics tend to get him into trouble. So my question is what do you go by to evaluate him and how long can we go with making excuses for his lack of above average QB play? It's an honest question that was spurred by a debate on Th Score with the hosts mentioning how they think out of any trades or FA signings in this town he's been given the longest leash and at what point do you come to a conclusion on him?
  21. Come on now... If you're going to evaluate his 3.5 years in Chicago how would you summarize it using statistics? It's obvious he didn't have much to work with starting out.
  22. So Cutler apologists (like myself) wanna point to his overall win loss record to defend him. I just heard that he's 7-19 against teams over .500. Something to think about...
  23. Barrett Jones seems to keep dropping in these latest mocks. I've seen him go early 2nd round in a few of them.
  24. You have the benefit of an unconcussed brain to make that decision with. My concern is -- how many more concussions before that decision starts to be made for him, or at least strongly recommended by doctors... Can't be too many more. And AGAIN, we can't protect him in the pocket. It doesn't help that when he decides to scramble he'd rather dive head first or lower his shoulder instead of sliding. Oh and when he is under attack in the pocket he'd rather keep his eyes down field instead of tuck the ball and just take the sack. The guy refuses to protect himself. Do you think any good QB takes his eyes off the field when he's under pressure, and just goes down? Absolutely not, but there are situations where he should just take the sack and restart instead of throwing a pick or taking a huge hit.
  25. Bears trying out new Punters @ Halas Hall today per Zach Zaidman.
