Cuban on WSCR this morning - "Hell yea, I want it"
crazycooter replied to David's topic in Chicago Cubs Talk
I hope to get in on the ground floor with this case after passing the bar. :D Me 2! I passed it and I wouldn't want anything to do with this case on any side. Talk about one that will drain the life from you. -
Cuban on WSCR this morning - "Hell yea, I want it"
crazycooter replied to David's topic in Chicago Cubs Talk
The shareholders know the offers on the table. They're the ones who matter in the publicly held corporation. It's a requirement in every state, to my knowledge. Corporations have a fiduciary duty to their investors in these situations to accept the highest bid (with limitations that likely won't apply here). If MLB comes in and rejects the highest bidder, they will be facing a lawsuit from shareholders that will be unbelievably costly. It's going to be fascinating to keep an eye on in the coming months. The guys running the Trib do have a fiduciary duty to shareholders to get the highest price possible for all assets. However, that may not be Cuban's magic bullet here for two reasons: 1) The approval of other MLB owners is an external factor to the Trib and has nothing to do with them. As such, if the MLB owners reject the owner who puts in the highest bid, that bid is no longer viable. The Trib guys are not under any duty to accept it because the sale will not come to fruition. Essentially, they are required to take the highest bid from a bidder that will receive approval from the MLB owners as that will be the highest legitimate bid. [i realize that the standard here is "maximizing shareholder value," not necessarily highest price, but I didn't want to go that far here.] 2) Zell may or may not take the Trib private after he becomes owner of the team. If the team is sold by a public company (Zell could be the majority owner of a public company), then the folks in charge are under a duty to "maximize shareholder value" in return for the asset. If the selling company is private, then no such duties exist. A private owner could sell the Cubs for whatever and to whomever he/she/it wants. As an aside, I see no way that the shareholders of the Trib could sue MLB for denying the sale to the highest bidder. MLB is not under any duty to the shareholders and they have a handy little trust exemption to boot. -
My girlfriend tries to cheer me up when I'm mad about the Cubs, and it just makes me more upset. I feel really bad for her because she doesn't know what to do when I'm like that. She thinks that by being cute and affectionate , I am going to feel better but for some reason it just makes me angrier, and then she gets angry because I brush her off and then I get angry because she gets angry that I'm angry. It's a vicious cycle My girlfriend asked me "what's wrong with Lilly?" after the score was 6-2. Then she tried to talk to me for a while. I've told her over and over again to just leave me alone in those situations, but she refuses to listen. Drives me insane. I wish I had a girlfriend.

Man, this just fires me up! That's what you get when local media, and the organization itself in this case, makes a big deal about opposing fans coming in. Somehow it gives the home fans the OK to be completely unbearable jerks and bad sports to the point of physical confrontation. That has been happening for a couple of years now in Cincinnati. This guy named Tracy Jones does the post game show on the Reds flagship station. Whenever the Cubs have been there the last couple of years his whole show is consumed by hatred for Cubs FANS. It was so bad last weekend that several Reds fans called in and told him he was a homer. At any rate, I think that kind of thing in Cincinnati has made a noticeable difference in the way fans act there. I have been watching games there for years and its far worse than its ever been. Didn't mean to take the thread off topic. I just don't see us winning this series. Our "big three" offensive guys have just been black holes to this point. I don't recall them even moving a runner over, let alone getting a meaningful hit. The pitching could come around if the D-Backs would just return to form, but the offense has been atrocious. I just don't see them getting red hot all of a sudden.

Playoff gear...What are you getting...where?
crazycooter replied to JonnyRed's topic in Chicago Cubs Talk
I did. I checked my order status under my account this morning and it already said "backordered" (I just ordered yesterday). So, I went ahead and ordered one from CubWorld. They have already sent me an e-mail saying my order has shipped. I am gonna call MLB and try to cancel my order. For the record I got the roster shirt. I really like the 2007 playoffs sweatshirt too, but I think I will just put that one on my Christmas list. Besides, I can't decide between the grey and the blue. -
You should have seen the bitter old usher trying to keep fans away from the Cubs dugout after the game. Thought he was gonna pop a coronary. The two guys between us and the dugout were younger and pretty cool about it. Then some old guy came up and told them to clear the section out. The old guy was being a real tool about it. The younger guys were kinda rolling their eyes at him when he wasn't looking straight at them. I think it was pretty clear that the Reds management wanted to do everything they could to chill any celebration.

I'll be in Cincy and I'll be rockin' my undefeated shamrock boxer shorts (under my pants only-- unless we win). The last time I donned these beauties my beloved Kentucky Football Wildcats beat the Louisville 'Cards with a 57 yard TD with under 30 seconds to play. When I am in the stands with these things on, good things happen.

I saw a post somewhere else on NSBB saying that Phillips is only expected to play one game in the series (either today or Sunday). I hope its true. I'll see if I can find it again. As for Keppinger and Hopper, if someone can tell me where they live I can take some of my "associates" up and see to it that they are "otherwise detained" during the games. Hopefully it becomes easier to deal with Keppinger and Hopper when you know you don't have Griffey & Dunn to deal with afterwards. Every team has a couple good hitters anyway. Even the worst ones. There's really no excuse for not winning these ballgames. Inconceivable! Agree 100%. If Keppinger and Hopper can beat us then we never stood a chance.

There is now a tie atop the NL East
crazycooter replied to Schwarber Fan's topic in Chicago Cubs Talk
We're 10-5 in our last 15, 15-11 overall in September. Yes it was a bad series, but we're hardly gagging. True. If you look back far enough into this season the fact that we are even in this is attributable to a sizeable choke job on the part the Brewers. That said, I'm still freaking out a bit. -
Haha, as someone who's lived in Cincy most of my life, you hit the nail on the head. Cincy fans sit around and scarf nachos and guzzle beers with their fat families while at the same time making fun of Cubs fans and calling Wrigley a "beer garden". Reds fans are the worst baseball fans there are, IMO. I've had intelligent baseball conversations with fans of all different teams, but somehow Reds fans just consistently are some of the most clueless there are. You're outnumbered in your own park, now sit down and shut up. Preach on Brother Vandalay, preach on. I have family members up there who make fun of me as a dumb hillbilly. I am a lawyer. None of them went to college. That's just the way they think. So, to get back to the topic, I am going to Cincinnati tomorrow and I am going to raise some hell!!
-
I'm sure there will be a scattering of hillbilly Cincinnati fans (as usual) but I'm sure the majority will be wearing Cubbie blue (as usual). Reds fans only show up for Opening Day and Bobblehead promotions. Can't wait for this weekend. As a hillbilly myself, I can assure you there are no true hillbillies in Cincinnati. That's another reason I hate that place. Somehow they think they are better than people from Kentucky (me). I have tried to explain to them that people from real cities -- big cities -- see them as hillbilly hicks too. That concept is beyond them because to them Cincinnati is the modern day Canaan land. A hillbilly might hate your team, but he would be nice about it and probably drink some bourbon with you before you left town.

I know JR quite well. He will be there for all three if they are important. I will be there with him Friday and Sunday. We will be the ones raisin' cane. God in heaven only knows how bad I want to clinch with a win in Cincy. The years of punishment I have endured listening to those freakin' Cincinnati meatballs... BTW, we will be haulin' it up there in the Caddy. They are built for comfortable travel on the highways. Of course JR's friend's name is crazy cooter. I tip my cap, good sir. You are the first person on any message board to get the reference in my name. Well done. =D>

The Official locker room gear for division champions
crazycooter replied to Brian's topic in Chicago Cubs Talk
I go mostly 7 5/8 in New Era, but I occasionally go 7 3/4. It just depends on the individual hat and how its made. -
The Official locker room gear for division champions
crazycooter replied to Brian's topic in Chicago Cubs Talk
I have found that the "strap back" hats like those fit large heads better than some of the other varieties. I stay away from anything that's a velcro-back, they always have way too small a radius for me. Fitted is always best as you say, of course. I'm glad to know that I am not the only hat lover with a plus-sized melon. I can't really wear anything but a fully structured, fitted hat. Some of those slouch fit jobs will fit around my head, but almost none of them are deep enough. Ponder on that one for a minute. I would HYPOTHETICALLY go for the roster shirt IF such a shirt were to become relevant. -
Wrigley's field destroyed by The Police?
crazycooter replied to JonnyRed's topic in Chicago Cubs Talk
Brings a whole new meaning to the expression "F*** da police!" -
I think the differences between hats of the same size comes from the way they were stored before you bought them. If they are kept in a warm place with even moderate humidity they will shrink if left there long enough. That's just the nature of the beast with wool. I kept some of mine in a closet that always got warm on hot summer days -- shrunk them all. I am pretty sure they come out of New Era's factory true-to-size because they use a pretty exacting process in making those caps. Sorry if my response seems a bit overly detailed. I am something of a 5950 buff with 20+ in my collection at present. I hope the claims are correct that the new ones don't shrink. That's the only thing I never liked about the wool ones

INDemand reaches deal for MLB Extra Innings Package!
crazycooter replied to Abe Frohman's topic in Chicago Cubs Talk
Good choice. You won't be dissapointed. Well, I'm getting a free DVR, free HBO/Skinemax for 3 months, and $10 off a month for 10 months. The switch is just going to be weird because I am so used to the channels on Dish Network. Oh well. I like the way similar channels are grouped together with DirecTV. History, Discovery, and similar channels are from 269-289. Kids channels go from around 290-300, and so on. Last time I had any experience with Dish it wasn't like that. Once you get used to it I think you will enjoy it I couldn't agree more, the groupings, once learned, are easier to remember. The pay-per-view in the 100's bothered me off the bat, it felt like a void in the middle that i had to constantly skip, but everything is basically from 200-300 that's worth watching to me. skip? Just make a "favorites" and program out all that junk I need to take advantage of the favorites thing, but I have just learned the 6 or 7 channel number that start each group. I just punch them into the guide and page up/down from there. It would be hard for me to narrow my field of favorites to any number that would actually make it an advantage. My viewing tastes are pretty broad. That said, I have been very pleased with DirecTV and the service I have received. If they make EI anything like Sunday Ticket, then I am all for it. I know it will cut some people out, but that's the free market at work. your favorites can have as many channels as you want. I just program out the PPV and sports package channels, plus any movie channels I don't get. That's kinda what I was getting at. I get the biggest package they offer to regular customers. The only channels I don't get are the PPVs. So, I might as well just use the regular guide and punch in numbers since taking the channels out that I don't get wouldn't change much of anything. -

As for the comment about complacency: To be fair, I didn't take it as Piniella thinking that was a really big deal. DP specifically asked him about the lovable losers mentality. I took his response as trying to pay a compliment to Cubs fans while pointing out that such support may look a little bit differently when it comes to a Manager's perspective. I didn't take it to mean that he felt that was a serious problem with lots of Cub players in the past. It was really just a small part of his overall discussion of changing the culture around the Cubs.

Wood on now. Grace next hour.
-
Talked a lot about changing the culture of the Cubs. Really wants to change the attitude. Said that the fans are great for supporting the team win or lose, but that can cause some players to be complacent. Has to make sure that players take it on themselves to win. Talked about Wood and Prior. DP asked which was the bigger question mark. He said Prior, but basically only because Wood is looking so good. Didn't sound like he was really concerned about Prior at all. Talked about Soriano. Said he was a great player and that they had discussed his role as CF and lead-off when the Cubs first started talking to Soriano. Said Soriano was on board with the ideas from the start and that they are building a strong relationship. DP asked about A-Rod. He said that he and A-Rod remain close and they still talk often, but not as much as some folks seem to think. DP asked if he would like to manage A-Rod again. Lou said that Chicago would be his last job in baseball and that while he would always like the chance to manage a guy like A-Rod, he didn't see that happening.
