  1. edit: our payroll ended up being 92m not 90 last season. I don't know where those salary figures came from, but they don't look close to being accurate. Of course Dewitt is going to say that the budget is tight. Do you honestly think it would make good business sense to say "we've got all kinds of money to spend..... we're just waiting for players to come & get it!".??? Come on, people. It's business.
  2. That's a pretty warped request. Would you like to be alone?? :?
  3. It's become more common to claim it than to be it, too....... in many instances. How on Earth could you possibly know that? The same way that you know that what you posted is true. In other words, I don't know.

  5. Where are our white spokesmen? Why aren't they asking basketball why an inordinate percentage of whites are being kept out of basketball?
  6. I have no feelings either way on karma, but it's a faith thing for the people that do. personally, I don't necessarily need concrete evidence to believe in something; there are many things I can accept on faith. And I don't believe doing so demonstrates a lack of intelligence. Nor do I think requiring concrete evidence in order to believe is indicative of a higher level of thinking. They're just two different philosphies on living. Nice post, snood. If we had to have concrete evidence of everything, then there would be no need for "faith". I think that's the reason alot of people want to dismiss the idea of "faith" or "karma", because it takes more mental discipline than most people are willing to exert. Just my two cents.
  7.     What a crock. I attend at least 40 home games a year. You are so full of it. Full of what? I've watched it happen as the announcers narrate. They always talk about it. I forget which one is more hitter friendly, but they always time the open/close to their advantage. I'm not calling you a liar, but it takes almost 20 minutes to open or close it, so it's hard to believe that they're doing it during half-innings.
  8. I'm not sure that "pitcher friendly" would be an advantage to the Astros. They have enough trouble scoring runs, as it is. This is my favorite line: "Bud just wants to make sure there's a standard of practice involved," Courtney said, "so that what we've done in the past is done now and we're not breaking new ground." Where was Bud during the Cards/Astros series, when the roof was closed for every game?
  9. They do. King is angry because he DIDN'T get to play.
  10. Wow. Edmonds an MVP-caliber season? Interesting.
  11. Pujols has played 3B before, and did a decent job. And ARod can play short, that's the point. And VORP takes position into account.
  12. Pujols has played 3B before, and did a decent job.
  13. Have you ever watched Pujols run the bases? His instincts are incredible. He's led all of baseball in runs scored, 3 years in a row. That's not happening by accident. It's not happening by accident, but it's probably more due to the fact that he gets on base, that he gets a lot of extra base hits, and that he has had good hitters behind him over those two years. As opposed to A-rod??
  14. This is the 1st year pujols has stolen more than 5 bases in a year (16). Pujols career is 2-1 SB/CS while Arod career is 4.5-1 SB/CS. Arod has more speed no doubt. If i need a guy to steal a base im going with Arod. If i need a guy to score from second on a hit im not thinking twice about sending Arod but i'll think twice on pujols. There isnt a question on who you would rather have on base in the game, especially in the late innings. Have you ever watched Pujols run the bases? His instincts are incredible. He's led all of baseball in runs scored, 3 years in a row. That's not happening by accident.
  15. How is A-rod a better fantasy player? Pujols has nearly 100 points of OPS over him, over the last 3 years. Pujols is a better baserunner than A-rod, also. Pujols regularly is among the league leaders in runs scored, and was a more successful base stealer than A-rod in 2005. Unless you place ALOT of value on A-rod's defense at third base, then Pujols is easily the best player. Furthermore, he's younger and his contract isn't an albatross. In fantasy, you usually get points for number of stolen bases and not rates. OPS isn't a category in many traditional roto leagues. Position scarcity is a big issue in fantasy leagues. I realize that OPS isn't a category in and of itself, but it does a good job of summarizing the other categories. I may be willing to concede the "fantasy player" argument for 2005, but that's about it.
  16. Everything 92+ is too fast for everyone except Edmonds (when healthy), Rolen, and Pujols. I'm not sure Jimmy can hit 92+ anymore. His shoulder, wrist, and ribs are hurt. That could slow down the whole swinging, turning, and striding thing. Someone may want to suggest running through the catch instead of all the useless dives for showboating then. Apparently, it's fun to watch but is hurting the team if it causes or contributes to those nagging injuries. What "nagging injuries"? Edmonds played in more games than all but 3 Cardinals. He played in more games than all but 3 Cubs. He had a .899 OPS in September, so the "nagging injuries" weren't exactly hurting the team. He had an .872 OPS in the playoffs (2nd to Pujols). Does somebody want to explain to me what the problem is? I think people are making alot of assumptions that aren't necessarily true. Edmonds is 35 years old, and probably on the downhill side of his career, but he's still a highly productive player.
  17. How is A-rod a better fantasy player? Pujols has nearly 100 points of OPS over him, over the last 3 years. Pujols is a better baserunner than A-rod, also. Pujols regularly is among the league leaders in runs scored, and was a more successful base stealer than A-rod in 2005. 18. Thats true. St louis has great fans, but Chicago has great fans as well. I dont see how there is an way to distinguish which ones are "the best". There isn't. All I was saying is that the players prefer St. Louis fans. "The best" is a pretty arbitrary term, though. Right. St. Louis players prefer St. Louis fans while Cubs players prefer Cub fans. A survey of ALL players a couple of years ago indicated that almost 50% of ALL players said that St. Louis has the best fans. Does it mean that St. Louis has the best fans? No. I'm just telling you what the players think, and I'm not just making things up.
  19. Tell me why.
  20. I'll give you that one. Pujols=Best Hitter ARod=Best Player Has Barry Bonds retired? Until he does, he is clearly the best hitter in baseball. Bonds= Best hitter Arod= Best player I think that most of us forgot about Bonds, because he didn't play (much) this year. But you're right, he's the best. I'm still waiting for the argument that makes A-rod better than Pujols.
  21. I agree. Cubs fans here have been pretty cool about the whole thing.
  22. 1) I agree. 2) I agree. 3) I don't have 5-year splits, but the 3 year splits show that Pujols has been quite a bit better than A-rod over the last 3 years offensively. Probably enough to make up for A-rod's defensive value. ARod puts up Pujols like #s, and he's a Shortstop! Yeah, I know he's playing 3rd, but I still think he's the best SS on the Yankees... A-rod doesn't put up Pujols-like numbers. Pujols' OPS is about 100 points higher over the last 3 years.
  23. You don't believe in Rodriguez, do you? Don't you think that regular playing time would open him up for some major exploitation by the NL pitchers?
  24. 1) I agree. 2) I agree. 3) I don't have 5-year splits, but the 3 year splits show that Pujols has been quite a bit better than A-rod over the last 3 years offensively. Probably enough to make up for A-rod's defensive value. 3) Bonds was so good for 4 years he still might be the best player over the last 5 years. Good point.
