  1. he tells them "see these? these are birds on bats. throw the ball three inches off the corners and they'll be called strikes. now go have a career year." Unfortunately for the Cubs -- namely Greg Maddux -- these "rules" do not apply.
  2. Morris is has spent his whole career with the Cardinals, but the lost couple of years, he's been flat-out average. Now that he's leaving, I won't root for him anymore. I'm not neutral. I wish he would've went to Cincy or Texas... he would've given up 50 homers.
  3. Actually, let me add something, too. This is the second paragraph out of the article: C'mon, don't take things out of context! It's pretty much saying, "If, in the unlikely event that Miguel Tejada is traded, the Cubs are the early frontrunners." I guess that may be viewed as optimistic, but I was really expecting something else when I read the topic title/message...
  4. The fact that the Cardinals are on that list -- regardless of the odds -- converts the value of that article to void.
  5. Why would they want Ramirez when they have Mora? It doesn't exactly fill a hole of theirs, so I don't seeing him being the centerpiece to any deal...
  6. No way. He did well in like low A ball. He's what, 25 or 26? Why waste a roster spot? He's probably going to get picked up by a team that can afford a project on their roster. Avg Obp Slg Ops .243 .295 .515 810 That was in AA over a 34-game span. If I remember correctly, he really struggled at first, got hurt, and when he came back he played really well. Yes, he's 26. But you really can't hold that against him... because it's not like he's been focusing on hitting and has a 6 year advantage on his peers. I just don't want him to be claimed and then hear that he's decided to pitch again.
  7. Grow up. That's a serious accusation of someone in the media. People make a living via made-up stories. Corrected. (Hope nobody posted this already.)
  8. Bigbie the last three years versus righties: AVG OBP SLG OPS .286 .344 .438 .782 That's surprisingly decent... do I smell a platoon?
  9. Link? Nice move if true! yes, for the Cubs. a solid lefty specialist for a couple of guys who probably don't belong in the major leagues. why did King demand a trade? He didn't get to throw a single pitch in the offseason. His dad died late in the regular season... I don't know if that kind of put Tony in a position to hesitate to use him or what. King also said Tony warmed him up a couple times but didn't call him out, and that made him mad. After we lost the NLCS, he said something like, "I'll have to talk to my agent about discussing a trade." Despite his good numbers, him and Tavarez really struggled late in the season... He allowed a lot of inherited runners to score.
  10. The above link doesn't really say much... just that they did acquire King: Bigbie and Miles are both making less than half a million. Not a bad move, if you ask me.
  11. http://colorado.rockies.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20051207&content_id=1278782&vkey=news_col&fext=.jsp&c_id=col
  12. Interesting. King fell off big time at the end of the season, and he demanded a trade. Fills some holes. Haven't really looked at the numbers, but that seems like a decent trade...King was making $2.5 million, I believe.
  13. ... The Cards are trying to work out the details on a trade that would send Jeff Supan, Jason Marquis, and two pitching prospects( Wainright/Lambert)to the D-Backs for Javier Vasquez and two prospects. One of the prospects is believed to be one of the D-Backs top OF prospects, Carlos Quentin. ... C'mon, guys. If you're going to make up trade rumors, at least make them believable!
  14. Batting average: Marquis - .310 Willaims - .100 Do I need to continue? 8) OK, but seriously... I probably do discredit Williams' trade value. I just don't understand how the hell Latroy Hawkins can land anyone with any trade value... and on top of that, they throw in Aardsma!? That said, I don't think it's realistic to expect either Williams nor Marquis to be the centerpiece to any Abreu deal. Yes, they are both groundball pitchers, but it doesn't matter... It's not like they're guys that will step in and be anything more than #4 starters... maybe #3 if they reach their potential.
  15. On topic, that's really going to solidfy a weak Mets bullpen.
  16. But then agian, Marquis is a year removed from a 15-win, 3.71 ERA season. I don't really like him, but I do think he does have more value.
  17. That's probably news Cubs fans do not want to see but it makes the most sense for the Reds, especially considering they don't have to trade within the division. Isn't Dave Williams the LHP for the Pirates? Yes. And that is the one we're speaking of, too. Great move for the Reds, if they do it. They shed like $9 million in salary, and keep all four of those outfielders.
  18. Someone provided a quote earlier from a New York newspaper that suggested that St. Louis might be interested in him at 2nd..
  19. The Reds are on the verge of trading Sean Casey for Dave Williams. This, per RotoWorld. This would result in Dunn likely moving to first, thus freeing up an outfield position for the surplus outfielder. Not good for either Cub or Cards fans! Now Cincy probably won't trade any of those young outfielders.
  20. ESPN News claims that Seattle management reported that the 4 year, $44 million offer was "greatly exaggerated," and that they were looking to bring back Jamie Moyer, anyway...
  21. I was thinking the same thing today. However, rest assured that Pie will most likely have a successful Major League career. Patterson is a poopy head.
  22. I honestly prefer this place to Cards Talk. Yeah, more people post there, but for the most part, they're morans. Instead of realists, I like to call them "real-less." Come on, how did this go unnoticed? :P For those of you don't know where that came from, this is my most recent pic. I took in '98 before I went to see Mac launch one against the Cubs: http://www.democraticunderground.com/images/morans.jpg
  23. Good job with the spelling when pointing out how stupid others are. I'll let this one slide, Cards boy...
  24. It's just every single move -- be it a signing, a missed opportunity, a loss, a bad game by a player -- spawns knee-jerk reactions out of most of them. There are plenty of great and insightful posters, but it does seem that there are a plehtora of dumbarses to go with 'em.
