  1. Go Giants. Do it again Eli. PLEASE.
  2. Barf. It's going to be insufferable here. :-&
  3. We just lost to a terrible team, we won't finish well. We've seen this film before. Don't worry. We're in the same theatre watching the same film.
  4. This is why I think "bad losses" is a rather overrated factor. Who cares? At least for the teams not at the top of the bracket, every NCAA tournament game is against a good team (though, obviously, the tournament has been partially watered-down, but still). Showing an ability to beat good teams should be the most important factor. This is far less transparent than when you said wearing red uniforms was the most important factor last season. Ha ha. I knew I was going to be called out on that since my logic leads inexorably, at this point, to a favorable seeding for IU. For the record, I'm in favor of making red uniforms a factor as well.

  6. When you're good and playing them at home. Michigan still hasn't proven much to me. If beating a top 10 team doesn't prove much, you've set the bar a little high. The bar is also constantly shifting. First, it's that you haven't beaten a good team. Then you beat Michigan State, who is pretty clearly a top-10 caliber team (Pomeroy No. 6) and the bar shifts to you haven't beaten a good team on the road. However, this is such a high bar that basically no team can be a good team. Let's take a look at what most people probably still consider the best four teams in the country: Syracuse -- 4-0 on the road (wins against Nos. 49, 77, 119, 158) Kentucky -- 2-1 on the road (wins against Nos. 102, 198) Ohio State -- 2-3 on the road (wins against Nos. 98, 130) North Carolina -- 1-3 on the road (win against No. 141) That's one decent road win among the four (Syracuse's win at NC State). Teams can be very, very good and still not have beat anyone on the road. Duke won the National Championship two years ago and was No. 1 in Pomeroy, yet went 5-5 on the road with only one of those wins coming against a top-45 opponent (No. 20 Clemson -- a team that lost eight of its last 14 and, frankly, I have a hard time buying as a top-20 caliber team). Beating good teams on the road is very, very difficult in college basketball and making that a requirement to be considered a good team is silly.
  7. Really great college sports moment with Dernard Robinson celebrating in the student section like just any other student.
  8. YES YES YES. All praise Tebow. I woke up this morning and the ebays and emails were saying Caldwell was staying. What a great turnaround/relief. And, in honor of the worst coach in the NFL, we'll always have this: :-&
  9. Every team remaining has an interesting (and sure to be overblown) Indianapolis storyline: 49ers -- return of Jim Harbaugh Giants -- Eli Manning potentially winning in his brother's city/stadium Ravens -- Indianapolis stole the Colts from Baltimore! blah blah blah Patriots -- QB/team rivarly. I don't even want to think about them celebrating a Super Bowl on the Colts' field. Go not-Pats. That's really all I care about.
  10. Is this really that difficult of a concept? I like Kerry Wood. I like the Cubs. Therefore, I like having Kerry Wood on the Cubs.
  11. This is how I feel too. This is especially true since the team isn't going to be very good so at least fans can root for Wood and the payroll isn't much of an issue at all so the $3 million is basically irrelevant.
  12. I was rooting for the 49ers to win the Super Bowl anyway because of Jim Harbaugh -- yay 1995 Colts -- but Davis' emotion sealed my rooting interests. That was great to see.
  13. As frustrating as this season has been, they're in every game and don't have any bad losses (they lost by a ton to Baylor, but it was a great Baylor team). This would make for an excellent signature win. They're in every game? They've lost by 28 (the aforementioned Baylor game) and 33 (Ohio State).
  14. Great stuff so far in the third period. Really would have liked to score in that stretch, though.
  15. Ha yeah. I could sort of just feel this -- or something similar soon -- coming. The defensive performances/effort has really slipped the last three games. They have not played that well since the early 15-point lead against Michigan; I think you could say they had been coasting. They had also managed to win every close game so far. This team still has such a small margin for error that it was always going to be difficult to avoid some slip-ups. And Minnesota was going to be very hungry for a win, and they're not a bad team. I was hoping that they could beat Minnesota and the expected loss at Ohio State would serve as the "reset" I think the team needed. I was also hoping to avoid bad losses at home (it is not real logical, but I probably would feel better if they had lost to Penn State and won tonight).
  16. My less-than-impartial vote:
  17. Kiddie Cup or not, that's a really, really nice win for Liverpool. Hopefully they can kill off the second leg in two weeks as well. Not the most prestigious trophy, but it would be nice to win any trophy.
  18. I dont even know what this means. That was a good outcome for IU. He was apologizing to IU fans for considering OSU the best team in the conference. Even for Sulley that was a non-sequitur. I'm unaware of any IU fan that actually thinks IU is the best team in the conference -- this one thinks they are only the fourth-best. Regardless, it seems odd to be taking pot-shots (I guess?) at IU after Illinois just had a great win. i don't think i'm especially left field overall, i just didn't clarify what i meant. no disrespect for IU, i wasn't meaning to take a "pot-shot", in fact, if anything, it was a compliment indicating that i consider them in the mix for best team in conference. You're entirely lucid when you want to be. I just (wrongly) assumed this was an anti-IU statement like your (hilarious) anti-Kansas rants involving hobgoblins or whatever.
  19. Really? I feel like Illinois matches up wonderfully with Indiana (too well, in my opinion, but alas). They have athleticism all over the court and the only guy in the conference with the size-athleticism-talent combination to go toe-to-toe with Zeller (this is not to ignore Sullinger, who I still believe the best player in the league, but he gives away a lot of height, if not weight, to Leonard/Zeller). Illinois and Michigan State are the only two remaining home games that I think IU could lose if they play well (obviously leaving the door open for a stinker, which IU has come close to the last two times out -- heck, I'm concerned about Minnesota tomorrow night). I meant that Illinois doesn't get a home game vs IU. Their road-only opponents this year are IU and PSU, and I feel like they can beat PSU. Granted, they could surprise me and beat everyone except PSU. OK, I misunderstood, sorry. In that case, I think IU will more likely than not beat Illinois in Bloomington. However, I'd put the game at near toss-up due to match-ups (I think the 85% chance Pomeroy gives IU to win that game is too high). Of course, it does seem that I value Illinois more than just about everyone on this board -- including Illini fans.

  22. Excellent.
  23. Leeds United fan (singing) response: "You're so [crap], you need Henry." Arsenal fan response, of course: "1-0 to the Arsenal."
