  1. Not that the Pacers have made great deals recently, but the Bulls would either have to a) give up more or b) take on Tinsley or another bad contract along with O'Neal for the Pacers to accept that deal. That said, as a Pacer fan, I'd be very interested in some incarnation of O'Neal to the Bulls for young players/draft picks.
  2. The Bulls aren't 10th. There's a three-way tie for 8th. Not as nice as being tied for 6th, but not as bad as being 10th all alone either. Oh, ok. Nice. That's actually a slight relief. What are the tie-breakers, though? As in, if none of the teams tied for 8th get a top 3 pick, where do the Knicks end up? I could be wrong, but I believe a simple coin-flip is the tiebreaker.
  3. I still don't think Miami was that good of a team last year.
  4. Pacer fan here, so take this FWIW. Dropping to 10th (before the lotto balls are drawn, of course) is a big blow. At fifth or sixth, Al Horford or Brandon Wright (if/when he declares) were pretty likely. A 10th, it's going to be a lesser player. This is a good draft, so the Bulls should still get someone good but those four or five spots could be huge. Of course, the Bulls still could wind up in the top-3. I think last night's loss was huge. I had the Bulls penciled into the Eastern Conference Finals, now I think a first round loss is the most likely result. The Heat are the champs and they'll get every break (Wade, who I like, is easily the most protected player in the NBA now). This is likely to be a seven game series so the Bulls have an excellent shot -- it wouldn't really surprise me if they won -- but the Pistons would await. It would surprise me if the Bulls beat the Heat and then the Pistons.
  5. Oh wow. I'm sure he'll be back, but that would be a big blow. Curious decision. Well it actually makes sense. If you haven't tested the waters and you are a junior you should declare. You get to see where you stand and what you need to work on. Plus it is a reality check for a lot of these guys. Might make Shaun appreciate that last year a little more once he finds out his NBA future isn't all that bright. Yeah, you can only do it once, so you might as well if you're a junior, I guess. There's always a chance you could have great draft camps and be picked somewhere. However, it takes time away from team oriented things he could be doing at Illinois. Personally, I think he'd be better off staying in C-U over the summer and working with the team. Oh well.

  7. I just assumed -- or maybe more accurately, since this is the cubs, hoped -- that Guzman was sent down to be stretched out so he could take over the fifth starter role. That was the only logical reason for sending him down and not Ohman or Cedeno.
  8. I think you're wrong about that. Gordon has improvements to make before he's a point guard, but he displays excellent passing abilities at the high school level. He improved in that area a ton last season. That said, he'll likely never be a true point guard, maybe a point guard in the Gilbert Arenas mode though. No he may not be a true pg, but he could be Dwade waiting to happen. That pushes Conley back a spot. Oh and Collins is good, Self sat on him a bit. That and Augustin ant Texas, Crittendon from GT. There are a lot of pgs who make it interesting next year. Go now Mike. Agreed. Conley Jr. will never be drafted higher than he will be this year. Regardless of how ready he is, his stock will never be higher. He's coming off a great season in which he help lead his team to the national championship game as a freshman. This is also a relatively poor draft for point guards, which won't be the case next year as pointed out.
  9. I love Murton, too, but the Cubs have scored 12 runs the past two days and seven yesterday. Now, will it continue? Probably not.

  11. I enjoy hockey, wish I could watch. :(
  12. Ha, from the same town as me and sarcastic as hell. We'd get along well! Bloomington, eh? You a student?
  13. Pitching is a completely natural arm motion. No injury could possibly come from it. In fact, flinging your arm forward to throw a baseball over 90 miles an hour 100 times in less than three hours is actually good for arms. Torque is healthy. Doing that 30+ times a year is downright therapeutic. It's what makes men out of boys. Or, in Mark Prior's case, men out of little soft girly-men. We should actually thank Dusty for this so-called "abuse", otherwise we might be stuck with soft pitchers and would have no idea who was tough and who wasn't. Back in 1963 every pitcher threw 300 pitches and started 162 games. They were real men and never got hurt. Mark Prior is hurt because he's soft, Dusty merely was trying to toughen all our pitchers up, or, better yet, weed out the sissies. Bravo Dusty, bravo.
  14. It still hurts. This one will always hurt. This guy was our Clemens and we broke him. Unreal. Agreed. I wasn't counting on him -- hoping, of course -- nor did I really even expect much, sadly. But I can't help the melancholy reminiscence of Prior's 2003 and think what might have been. I thought Prior was as sure-fire as any young pitcher I'd seen. Damn Dusty and the ridiculous pitch counts.
  15. It looks like King Felix has arrived. Wow, does he have great stuff. I'm glad I drafted him.
  16. YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE!!! Go Liverpool.
  17. And Arron and Darren. :) Sorry... http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/draft2007/news/story?id=2832655 Pretty much, only DJ White should stay.
  18. That's not surprising. I know Wright consistently said he'd return, but he's likely to be a top 5 or 6 pick. Wright is a very skilled and athletic guy for his size. Rush is likely to leave, too. Kansas was likely to start preseason #1 or 2, but if they lose both Wright and Rush that's a lot to replace. They'll likely still be very good, probably top-10 good, but not one of the national favorites. if we keep rush, we still have a chance. w/o him, we're top 10 at best. Agreed. Kansas should be strong regardless, I just meant losing Wright (and potentially Rush too) takes them from at worst one of the top-3 teams and favorites for the Final Four to just another good team.

  20. Argentinian soccer players, but it applies to Ginobili. Batistuta     Diego Simeone acted like a sniper put a bullet in his back when Beckham nudged him in 1998. But no one dives like an Italian soccer player. For the most part, all South American teams have mastered the art of diving.
  21. Offense has looked good in Milwaukee. Jumping on teams early is huge, in my opinion. Edit: I'm ready for Soriano to break out.
  22. "According to Indians director of media services Bart Swain, the Tribe is requesting that it be allowed to have one or all its players wear Doby's No. 14, which was retired by the club in 1994, on the anniversary of that event. The Dodgers will all be wearing No. 42, which was retired throughout baseball in 1997, the day of Robinson's anniversary." http://cleveland.indians.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070405&content_id=1880875&vkey=news_cle&fext=.jsp&c_id=cle Thanks. That's good to hear.
  23. While I can't imagine anyone feels differently, it's nice to hear Lee say that. I feel Robinson, like MLK Jr. and others before him, are more than just African American icons, but icons to all races (trying not to sound too trite). PS That said, I really think Larry Doby gets the shaft in all this.
