  1. If they play Georgia....my god. That will be a beatdown. Everyone said the same thing about Boise State-Oklahoma last year. I knew that was coming. But I thought Boise State had a chance last year. Hawaii isn't Boise State. They will get destroyed. Agree completely. Boise State was very good last year, Hawaii is average this year. Plus, Georgia is much better than Oklahoma was last year.
  2. Looks like Indiana is going to the Insight Bowl to play Oklahoma State. Any idea on what the line will be/should be?
  3. I think Oklahoma and Georgia will both win big. I think LSU and USC will win closer than people think. That all depends on how good you think the Big 10 is. Not terribly. But I see no evidence that LSU is going to blow out anyone decent, other than the Va Tech game which was forever ago. Especially considering OSU won't want to be embarrassed after last year. Oh, OSU travels like crazy -- it won't be near the home game for LSU people think. As for USC-Illinois, I'd be stunned if Illinois wins but with their running game I think 21 is a bit much. However, I'm going on your 14- and 21-point spreads which likely won't be the case, so maybe both will be as big as "the people" nebulously believe. This has nothing to do with the post, but am I the only one who finds it hilarious that two weeks (sets of games) in a row the number one team in the country is going to be widely considered the underdog? That is going to be odd/funny. What's even funnier is that I really don't think anyone can rightfully complain. Oklahoma should've been favored over Mizzou and LSU should be favored over Ohio State.

  6. Very much so. It defeats the entire purpose of bowls.
  7. It's ridiculous Missouri didn't get in while Kansas and Illinois did. I'm glad the Big Ten got a second team, and I care not about Mizzou-KU, but that's just not right.
  8. We're decent, but I expected a closer game. Just seems like these real athletic teams give us trouble. Once we get to conference play, it'll be smooth sailing for us. I hope. I didn't mean to imply I expected a 13-point win for IU. Southern Illinois is a good team that will fair very well in conference. Nationally, I don't think they'll be quite as competitive as they have been -- though I believe the Mississippi State win will end up a solid victory. SIU doesn't have as much offensive firepower and isn't as athletic as they have been in the past. While their defense is still very good, IU's athletic guards were problematic -- coupled with a player no one in college can really handle. Finally, SIU isn't big or athletic enough to expose IU's weak underbelly inside.
  9. Wow, that's not a great list. All would be improvements, of course. Why the "ugh" for Mariucci? He is worse than slimy or no-defense?
  10. Explain why. Yeah, I don't believe that's intrinsically true. I do believe some players tighten up in certain situations and are thereby "anti-clutch." It's human nature; some of which isn't good. That doesn't automatically mean other players are better in certain situations. Why would they be? And, if so, then aren't they under-performing in other situations? Unless, of course, the argument is that clutch players simply perform the same in all situations.
  11. I just appreciated this: I don't know if clutch exists. But I am certain there is no stat yet to define it. RISP and close and late are NOT good stats for clutch. They are garbage. Not every game and situation is the same. Hitting a home run when leading by one run in the seventh inning in April is not clutch. Hitting a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth in the last game of the season when you're tied for the wild card is clutch. Both are close and late stats. That, of course, doesn't mean the clutch hitter exists.
  12. Group C is ridiculous. Group B is pretty easy; the other two are pretty nicely balanced. Can't wait, so glad ESPN is showing the games this year, hated having to go to a bar or pay-per-view the games four years ago. Especially when I paid to see the Greece-Portugal snooze fest.
  13. Good win for IU. Not sure why so many were predicting doom in this game; IU matches up very well with SIU. SIU doesn't have the team to take advantage of IU's weaknesses -- whereas Xavier does. That doesn't mean SIU isn't good. This IU team still has a long way to go, but I think they're improving. They also get Jordan Crawford back Saturday and A.J. Ratliff back the following Saturday. IU should enter the Big Ten at 11-1, due in large part to a weaker schedule (UConn is in February) -- outside of Kentucky they play four more cupcakes at home. Yippee.
  14. I think IU wins, but I expect them to get brutalized on the boards -- and that's without Dickey playing. I even root for Purdue in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge. Take one for the league and root for the Hoosiers. Oh I definitely will root for Indiana. I guess I can say it'll help our RPI too. We're going to need all the wins we can get. I doubt it's more than four. Well we're dogs in 4 out of 5 games today. MSU is probably the only favorite tomorrow(maybe Illinois, but I doubt it) Smart money takes the under on 4. I'd be Cam Cameron NFL coach shocked if the Big 10 won it. Ha ha, me too. I think MSU and IU win. I also lean towards Minnesota and Illinois winning. After that...well, Wisconsin has a chance if it's a five-on-five game.

  17. Minnesota definitely needs to win. I expect them to be the surprise team of the Big Ten, they have better talent than people believe and Tubby is a enormous improvement. Illinois is also important, I think they get it done. I'm expecting Indiana and Michigan State to win. That would be four...
  18. I seem to recall Dee Brown referring to Self as Bill a couple times in private. You're right, though, I've never heard it in public. Stuff like this was prevalent at IU during the Mike Davis era. It just shows a lack of discipline. In private is different than public. And I could be wrong, maybe it happens all the time, and I'm seeing something that isn't there. It just seems like the players are running the program.
  19. No, I can't imagine things ending well at K-State. At all.
  20. Gordon struggled, battled foul trouble...and still had 20. IU, on the other hand, as a team stunk. Yea Im just messing around. Im glad you can take it, and not get all bent out of shape. The IU-UI rivalry is fun. Yea Gordon still had 20, but 12 of those were on free throws. Was he just cold today, or did Xavier do something defensively to throw him off that other teams hadnt done? I'd say there were a number of factors. This was the first real D-I defense he's faced. Sampson's offense stinks (as we all know) so Gordon pretty much had to go on his own to try and score. He was as off as I've seen him. He picked his third foul with 7-8 or so minutes left in the first half and sat the rest of the way. Finally, the officiating was terrible -- though NOT at all the reason they lost -- and he probably should've shot even more free throws (he was consistently mugged when he got the ball). IU must get much, much better running some sort of halfcourt offense and defending inside. They've actually regressed on the later, despite actually adding interior players without losing any. Xavier was a game I've been worried about since I first saw IU play -- they're a bad matchup. This week offers two tough games, but Georgia Tech is at home and not that great, and I think IU matches up better with Southern Illinois (not to say they'll win, of course).

  22. I hope the Illini make a BCS game. However, not sure I want IU to move up a bowl spot. Right now, it seems they'll head to Tempe for the Insight Bowl. I have a place to stay in Phoenix and it's pretty close to Vegas. Edit: You're going to need a crappy Pitt team to upset West Virginia. Hope it happens, but...
  23. That needs to be changed immediately. Ridiculous.
  24. Homecoming was founded at Mizzou. How can you root against that? No but seriously, do you really want to see kU playing for the national title? Look at their schedule, it's a complete joke. They lose tonight, they won't play for the title. One other thing... you know how the "MIZ... ZOU" and "ILL... INI" chants are, you know, full of enthusiasm? Have you heard kU's "Rock, Chalk, Jayhawk" chant? It sounds like a bunch of zombies. It's easily the most lifeless chant I've ever heard from a home team. In any sport. Do you really want to root for a team who's own fans can't even get excited for the team? If you want to root for the team that is going to win, root for the Tigers. Mizzou is going to win tonight. I care not about either team, but "Rock, Chalk, Jayhawk" is the best chant in college athletics.
  25. It's sort of what you get when you fire a perfectly good coach and hire a psycho wife beater who had never been above a defensive line coach in his career. The good news is Art Kehoe becomes available to hopefully take the Notre Dame o-line job. Yep. Our AD and Chancellor are complete idiots and have never done anything right. One of their greatest crimes was letting a coach who was 44-29 overall and 25-23 in the SEC. Is this sarcasm? If it is, those numbers are better than anyone ever at Ole Miss besides Vaught so what exactly do you want? haha, I left out the word "go"....it should have read "one of their greatest crimes was letting a coach GO who was..." I'm glad to see some fans have reasonable expectations for their program. We can't all be USC, Ohio State or Florida.
