  1. I don't care who it is, and I don't care where he plays. If they come to spring training and earn the job they can have it. I'm tired of crowd favorites, managers toys, and people being payed too much to sit the bench. Play well keep playing. I'm sure they could give everybody enough at bats to find out who stays and who goes.
  2. The Cubs organization hates Rich Hill. Here's proof. I may be missing the point here, or maybe I'm not getting the possible sarcasm, but I don't see any hate for Rich Hill in this article. This was posted July 18, 2006 and at that time this is would be a positive thing to say about a struggling young pitcher.
  3. As a long time lurker, I would like to thank all of you that have contributed to this thread. From little league thru high school I was taught value was judged by batting average, home runs, and pitchers that win. Didn't matter if the ERA was above 6 as long as you get the wins. I am trying to catch up with the stat heads at least to understand the different ways to measure value. This thread has alot of information, and most of it is explained and debated well. Thanks again.
  4. Look at the bright side, we now have a platoon option if Jaque stays in Chicago!
  5. I may be missing something, but if Rapada was this close to being ready why did we see Marshal and Walrond? I am not as in touch with the minor leagues as alot of others, but last season would have been easy to see if he was actally ready.
  6. Hicks has proved that he will spend money to improve his team. The Cubs have yet to do that with a BIG time player. They spend it on use to be, or maybe could be, but not on big money, big result players. Which I think keeps alot of fans on the pessimistic roster.
  7. Mayb things have changed, but unless he has enjoyed playing left field Soriano would be a fool for signing with a team that isn't going to play him at second.
  8. According to Hit and Run on the Score this am Barrett is out with a contusion on his bicep, caused by the collision with Eckstein the other day. Same reason Eckstein is not playing.
  9. Bakers one more chance to improve on a bad season (2005) is almost over. Didn't do any better in 2006, it is time to pack up and get out. The team playing better the last few weeks, should have nothing to do with Dusty staying.
  10. I fear the something will be worse than nothing.
  11. The way this team has been playing this year, I would find it hard to believe a hot Aram for the 2 months Lee was out would have made a difference with the overall standings or record of this trainwreck. I for one will congratulate Aram on an excellent defensive improvement, which was without Lee saving him from many errors, and give him a pass on his poor offense. For all I know he was working so hard on defense his offense took a hit. I will now return to normal lurking position.
  12. Hate to show my age, but this reminds me of Sandberg's first season with the Cubs. Seems like he would have a series that was a view of how good would be in the future, then he would just as easily look human. That is how I see Murton. I'm very happy Dusty didn't manage then.
  13. A question for those of you that have more computer smarts and time than I; How many games has Wood left with the lead, just to see the bullpen lose the game?
  14. I thought Olerud would be a possibility.
  15. With Hendry's history, I think any starting pitching decisions will depend on Guzman's fall league. He does well, we might see a Williams, Guzman combination. Not so well, we go shopping.
  16. doesn't it seem strange that in the interview Dusty give Roger Craig credit for telling him to never assume, then says you can't teach until after a mistake is made?
