  1. Brian Kelly seems to have everything you'd want. Youth, head coaching experience (D2 titles and BCS conference championships), innovative schemes, etc. I think he's definitely the top current college head coach looking to move to mega program. Chris Peterson is up there as well. I just read on wiki that Fisher is owed $5 million if he's not the head coach by 2011 though. That's pretty brutal if you don't think he's going to be your man. If that's the case then hiring a coach that's going to command a huge salary might not be in the cards (like Gruden or something) and you're probably looking at a young coordinator to step in for less money.
  2. It's getting even uglier. Bobby was offered a nice "going-away" package in the $5MM range and including staying for 1 more year (so his last game would be a home game), but Jimbo gets final say over everything including coaches (where he would remove the entire staff on the D side of the ball). The major sticking point is that Andrews wants to retire, and Bowden wants Amato as the DC - when Fisher can't stand Amato, going as far as talking Andrews into coming back this year so that Amato wouldn't be the DC. Bobby said "Nope." Now both sides are hunkering down for battle, knowing that Bobby gets a $1MM check when he leaves, and his contract runs out at the end of this year. FSU and the BoT are leaning towards letting him walk away without any second thought. The question is why are they restricting themselves to Jimbo Fisher? Maybe he could thrive without Bowden (I sort of doubt it) but if Weis survives this year, FSU is easily the best job on the market. With Meyer at Florida and Miami plus USF looking strong getting the right coach is critical. One bad hire and you're looking at potentially a decade or longer of mediocrity.
  3. That is the most underwhelming slate of games I can remember seeing--on a Bears bye week no less. Hopefully college football will rock as it normally does.
  4. Yeah, Kampmann is totally out of position.
  5. Thank god.
  6. I hate gambling. I have Minny -3.5. alksdjfalk;jdf
  7. Jared Allen is an animal.
  8. And it wasn't Kerry Collins that kept the Titans from making the Super Bowl last year. With weapons around him he's fine, but there weren't enough weapons last year. This year, the entire team is awful. We don't win 13 games last year with a more mistake prone QB, but I don't think there are a lot of QBs that would have taken us further. I think last year's team went about as far as the overall talent allowed. Sure, I doubt Brady or Manning gets much more than 13-3 out of last years Titans but if you put one of those guys on the Titans last year and you're thinking that team is a heavy favorite to at least get to the Super Bowl. Game managers are great and all but you need a QB who can carry a team at some point in the playoffs.
  9. Kerry Collins is basically the reason why no one in their right mind picked the Titans to win the Super Bowl.
  10. Clinton Hart has to be the worst safety in run support I've ever seen.
  11. Denver would be pretty damn loaded if they had Cutler combined with the defense they've shown thus far.
  12. Starters off the top of my head I would take over Orton: Manning, Brady, Brees, Roethlisberger, Warner, E. Manning, McNabb, Romo, Ryan, Rivers, Schaub, Garrard, Favre, Rodgers, Hasselbeck, and Flacco. And then you could throw in the fact that no one in their right mind would take Orton over Stafford or Sanchez as a long term solution. I guess you could say Orton is in the next group with the Shaun Hills and Matt Cassels of the world. I don't see how that puts him at "easily above average" for starting QBs.
  13. Maybe it's because I don't live in Chicago but I don't hear any comparisons and I don't really anticipate any unless Denver really takes off and Chicago falters. Even then, I think the formula for Denver winning this year has been established as defense and the running game. Orton will get some credit but not enough for people to really second guess the trade.
  14. Any Bears fan that didn't realize they were winning in spite of Kyle Orton as far back as 2005 is an idiot. I'm not worried about him performing well and making the trade look bad--at all. Even if that did happen it would just reinforce the fact that we need to bring in a real offensive brain trust to work with QBs and call plays.
  15. The Chargers are no real threat without Jamal Williams for the rest of the year. It's a bigger loss than Merriman was last year (who has been totally invisible this season). Denver might win the AFC West.
  16. The game manager label is just a euphemism for a guy that sucks but is your best option. Orton was pretty error prone in Chicago, anyway. I don't know why people thought he was secure with the football. He wasn't. He's doing a good job of protecting the ball in Denver so far, though. Denver isn't going to allow less than 7 points per game all year though and people will realize Orton sucks soon enough.
  17. BIG GAME BOB
  18. It's imperative that OU remain within earshot of an opportunity to utterly embarrass itself in another BCS game.
  19. HE JUST WINS
  20. They should at least battle for a 5 seed. You've got Cleveland, Boston, and Orlando locked in for the top 3 most likely. Atlanta's probably a 4 seed although they're not going to run away from anybody. A 7-8 seed probably means another record around .500. I expect at least some improvement off of that and fighting for a 5-6 seed.
  21. I can't stop laughing at Tony Romo.
  22. Mark Sanchez: Imploding.
  23. If KC backdoors my NYG -9.5 I'm going to be annoyed.
  24. It's one bad half. It's not a top 5 unit but it'll be in the top half of the league, maybe top 10, at the end of the year. Efficiency wise it wasn't even that bad last year.
  25. At this pace Stafford is going to throw for way more yards than he ever did in any game in college.
