  1. I'm getting pretty damn excited right now. That would be a pretty swift kick in the balls for the Pac 10 with USC now neutered. I guess OU is still nice.

  3. Texas and OU aren't going to be in the Pac 10 this season.
  4. Meaning the NCAA didn't want to annoy its television partners by pulling the only national draw the Pac 10 has. I bet USC does really good television numbers this season.
  5. My understanding is that the NCAA can waive the 1 year transfer rule if a postseason ban is as long as their remaining eligibility. So I think juniors and seniors can transfer and play somewhere else immediately.
  6. Here's the report: http://www.ncaa.org/wps/portal/ncaahome?WCM_GLOBAL_CONTEXT=/ncaa/ncaa/ncaa+news/ncaa+news+online/2010/division+i/bowl+ban+among+penalties+for+southern+california • Scholarship reductions in football (to 15 initial grants and 75 total grants for each of the 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013-14 academic years, which represents a decrease of 10 scholarships for each of the three seasons) What does that mean?
  7. The scholarship reductions are 30 over 3 years.
  8. I don't know. I don't really think about what constitutes some idea of justice. No crimes were being committed here so I'm not going to concern myself with it. All I know is that the next two years will suck more than they otherwise would have and that I'll still watch way too much college football on Saturdays.
  9. I never said the punishment wasn't just. I was challenging the assertion that I should be grateful that it wasn't worse. Was there wrong-doing? Yeah, probably, according to the rules put down by the NCAA. On the other hand, I don't really think there's anything wrong with someone using their private money to get someone to go to their school. That's not what happened here but it should clarify my thinking for you. Somehow big time college sports has carved out this place where things that are standard norms in other walks of life are deemed heinous violations of the moral code.
  10. Just so we're clear, if I were thinking rationally and not as a homerific USC fan I would recognize that USC got away with highway robbery, even as a punishment was being handed down, and I should be relieved, nay, GRATEFUL, that the punishment wasn't worse even though it exceeded most everyone's expectations.
  11. do whatever you want. i'm just saying if it were my team, i'd recognize that we got away with highway robbery and the national title and heisman trophy are worth more to the program than 20 schollies over the next 4 years. You're forgetting the two year postseason ban. And you'd recognize you got away with highway robbery as a fairly severe punishment was being handed down? Is it easy keeping all those contradictory ideas in your head at the same time?
  12. Of course it isn't what most of you would have wanted. "Most" people think that USC was putting up Reggie Bush in a baller crib in San Diego so they think the death penalty or something nearly as dumb was in order. I'm talking about expectations based on what actually did occur. So your expectations were exceeded and mine were not. I mean I have no choice to eat it but I'm not going to be grateful for it. I have no reason to be if the haters are popping champagne.
  13. given all this [expletive] they've done, if they don't lose some games, bowl, and a national title, i'd keep my mouth shut and be happy the penalties are all forward-looking. So everyone else is allowed to be surprised and happy about how harsh the penalties are but I should be grateful that they aren't worse? That makes no sense.
  14. How is that possible when USC owns the NCAA and is this untouchable behemoth run amok? Ok, that's my one indignant comment on this whole matter. I swear.
  15. Welp. Not that I'm the world's biggest hockey fan or anything but this sorta takes the wind out of my sails for the Blackhawks. The 2004 national championship is probably going to be vacated too.
  16. If KU is allowed into the Pac 10 Berkeley is going to produce another Unabomber.
  17. Well if Nebraska joins the Big 10 and ends its rivalries with OU and CU maybe the Big 10/Pac 10 will realize that defending the Rose Bowl match up from reasonable playoff scenarios is outdated as well.
  18. If a school like KU is allowed into the CIC the University of Chicago's particle accelerator will explode.
  19. Because Texas is the greatest (insert) in the history of everything.
  20. I was thinking about his 14k performance and while he obviously won't have 14 punch outs every game I was wondering if he could have a k/9 of 14 for a whole season. For reference Randy Johnson's highest was 13.4 and Pedro's was 13.2
  21. It varies from conference to conference, but there's still far more potentional money in research than there is in academics. The relationships that each school has does affect that money. The CIC (Big Ten plus University of Chicago) is a really strong group of schools that really helps out each institution. It's also a factor in getting the best students from each state. I can't speak for the Pac-10 and I don't know what their voting process is like, but I'd have to imagine that the top schools wouldn't be thrilled with the prospect of inviting schools not up to their current standards. I can speak for the SEC, though, and say it isn't. I don't see why one affects the other though. I suppose if the Big 10 is obligated to let more schools into the CIC it could water down the brand. Are research dollars going to be with held for that reason though?
  22. I don't know enough about college sports to know why the academics are that important to the makeup of an athletic conference. Is it just marketing? Are Stanford and Berkeley really being held back by Arizona State?
  23. Any who, I don't believe for a second that UMFan won't have a freak out if there's a loss tonight. Just read some of your comments after game 2 and then after game 4. The difference is stark and hilarious.
  24. The civil trial was in 96-97 True. But that was the boring one. When the OJ movie is made some day the center piece will be the 95 criminal trial.
