    im not doing any of the past cubs (who never won anything and were on mostly bad teams) a disservice sammy was literally one of the most famous people in the country for several years

    sammy sosa is the most important and exciting cubs player of all time and a huge reason they’re worth what they are worth now I didn’t grow up in Chicago in the 90s but me and my friends were obsessed with baseball and the cubs pre-98 had zero pull with us. no one gave two shits. it was all Griffey (and Frank to a much lesser extent) all the time. whatever currency the WGN cubs had as a national brand was cannibalised by the braves/tbs bring him back

    williams does hold the ball too long and that needs to be coached out of him but he believed usc had to score TDs on every possession to compete because the defense was so ass so he was always looking for the home run play even in his first year at sc when the defense was merely bad instead of basically the worst in the country he didn’t hold the ball as long

    we need a hard reset/bottom out and to stock assets. coby's had a great year and his contract is a steal, but there's only two years left on it after this season--his value won't get any higher than it is right now. we're not going to be any good in two years (probably the same muddle we are in now) and we'll let him walk or need to resign him to huge dollars to a team that isn't ready to contend. the chances of us actually trading him are approximately 0% and on the other hand, i don't REALLY want AKME making these decisions. but we should be looking at a complete tear down and being dreadful for a few years.
