  1. I could see the 3-4-5 of our lineup being Ramirez/Bradley/Lee.
  2. Particulars aren't out yet, right? I wonder if it's 10 for each of 3 years, or maybe something like 8/10/12 or some other way to backload the contract?
  3. Fleita said yesterday that he'd like to see Vitters start next year in Daytona, due to the cold weather in Peoria. Not sure if this happens or not obviously, but I'd like it for sure.
  4. A better response than "???" but it can "almost definitely wind up between" 3 and 3.7 as well. How about we wait and see what he gets before we pass judgment? That's true, I guess.....I'm not sure if this year's slow developing and most likely "cheaper" market for most FA will affect the process or not. I noticed AZ PHIL has the trio of Cedeno, Gregg, and Wuertz at 6.5 total in his guesstimate, so if that winds up being close, I wonder how it'd break down? Maybe 4 for Gregg and 1.25 each for Cedeno and Wuertz possibly?
  5. The 5 mill figure for Gregg is a pretty solid guesstimate on what he'll get through the arbitration process. He may wind up with a TAD less than that, but it'll almost definitely wind up between 4 and 5 at any rate......
  6. No. All quotes are direct quotes. Well, here we go again......
  7. I know Marquis isn't much, but he's a worthwhile 4-5 starter for pretty much any team in baseball and if we lose him, it really puts our pitching depth in question bigtime. I know we have Marshall, Gaudin, Shark, and Guzman all capable of being starting pitchers, but I would hope this means we have another pitcher in our sites to go get. At the absolute VERY least, I would hope this allows us the luxury to get a RFer......If this is literally a cost-cutting move and doesn't allow us to do anything else? It would kind of suck to lose Marquis and I can't believe I'd actually say that.......
  8. Since the Yankees have already gotten Sabathia and Burnett, they're probably not looking for another large deal involving a starting pitcher. Sheets or Pettitte? Sure, they won't require the 4 year deal Lowe most likely will........ I'm fairly sure the Red Sox have already said they don't have an interest in Lowe as well. He just left the Dodgers and they don't appear to be showing interest either...... My gut feeling is Hendry is doing Boras a solid here and acting like we're interested when we're probably not. To get the large deal Boras is seeking for Lowe, you almost have to have some major market team "interested" and I'm not sure there is one right now with Lowe. I'd love to find a way to get him and a starting RFer as well, but I don't see it being all that likely...... Of course, with all the major market teams slipping off the radar here, maybe Lowe's price will come down some and we can find a way to snag him.
  9. I'm pulling for Ricketts personally. His family has very deep pockets, he's relatively young(I think) and he met his wife at Wrigley. Don't know about any of the other groups, but I'd think this guy would want to build a winner anyway......
  10. Could Lee be sent to Baltimore once they lose out on Tex possibly? A deal involving Lee and Roberts as they main pieces would be interesting.....
  11. I know he's having a career year and there are a lot of people here who don't want him back for that exact reason, but I really do want him back personally. But, I also think he's turned himself into a 2-3ish type pitcher as well. I think he'll give us a solid discount too, based on his love of the city and team. Class act and I hope he's back.
  12. I'm surprised there wasn't a mention of Shafer actually. I figured he'd have made the top 20 or at least been in the next 5. I had a question on him they didn't answer either.
  13. Very disappointed with what was said about Searle......Soft body and has makeup concerns basically. Someone to watch, but not top tier is what was basically said......
  14. Len, you're the best. Thanks a bunch!
  15. I'm a little surprised Antigua didn't make the top 20, same with Cerda. That said, at least they were talked about very favorably as it is. Was hoping for a better account on Gonzalez though.
  16. I don't think the Pirates have any need to deal him honestly. Of course, anyone could be had for the right package. But, if I'm the Pirates with him just entering his first arbitration year, I'm asking for Vitters. Because dealing McLouth would probably alienate your fanbase that much more, unless you got a true stud prospect in return and Vitters is all we have that falls into that category. Quantity wouldn't get it done, in my opinion.....
  17. Here's what I expect: Re-sign Dempster and Woody. Demp gets 3-39 with a 4th year vesting option or something like that. Woody gets 2 years guaranteed with a 3rd and 4th year option on him. I figure we'll keep Johnson too, but see him turning into the platoon partner of Fukudome or purely a 4th OFer next year. I see Marquis getting dealt to the AL somewhere, with us eating up to half of the money, but netting a decent prospect in return. I don't see Pie back next year, so I could see him getting dealt in a package for either a power hitting corner OF, with Fukudome moving to CF or more likely, in a deal for DeJesus......
  18. I'm guessing Vitters is top 30, maybe breaking the top 25. Shark should make the list too, shouldn't he? He's a total headscratcher to me though as to where he could wind up on it though. If he has a great postseason, I think the sky's the limit for where he's ranked, but I'd think he's top 60 at the least. I figure Ceda will be somewhere in the 70-90 range, possibly a tad higher. Cashner? Will he make it? If so, how high? I can't see him higher than where I'm figuring Ceda to be, am I wrong? Any chance Jackson sneaks onto the list? I'd think he makes the top 150, but don't know what to think as to him making the top 100 already. Probably gets mentioned as someone to watch for sure though. How about Colvin and Veal? My guess is Veal is nowhere to be found, but Colvin could show up around 100 since he caught fire at the end of the season. Castillo a possibility? Catchers are at a premium anyway..... Anyone else I'm missing that could get mentioned or at least be top 150? At any rate, it looks like we could represented pretty well......Maybe our system moves back into the 12-15ish range overall?
  19. Hoff has a homer tonight already and is 2-2 with 4 RBI still in the 2nd inning...... Coleman looks to have had a very solid debut in Daytona, pitching 5 innings, giving up 4 hits, 1 run, which was unearned, 2 walks and 2 K's.
  20. Did Bristow have THS? I can't remember what happened with him?
  21. Raisin eluded to this in a separate thread, talking about Cashner and Shafer hopefully starting in Daytona next year. Where do we expect guys to begin next year? Here are my guesses anyway....... Iowa Veal Caridad Ceda(if he doesn't make the major league squad) Lambert Atkins Colvin Spears Tenn Maestri Carrillo Jackson(at least it seems possible, right?) Chen Papelbon Thomas Castillo Daytona Hernandez Coleman(possible anyway?) Shafer M Smith Rosa Samson Harrison Peoria Cashner Carpenter McDaniel Rhee Acosta Searle Vitters Flaherty Brenly Rundle Burke Boise Antigua Y Gonzalez Huseby J Pena Suarez Castro Lake Cerda Watkins J Jones N Perez Arizona M Perez Mayora Reyes Spencer Hams Williams Morales Morelli Hak-Ju If I forgot anyone major, please feel free to add in where you think they may wind up. The only guys I'm thinking will "graduate" to the majors next year that are still ROY eligible though, are Samardzija obviously and Hoffpauir, taking over Ward's role.
  22. I think we'll find a way to keep Dempster personally, leaving just one spot open. To me, at that point, I figure the Cubs will do everything possible to salary dump Marquis and leave the 5th spot open for either of Marshall or Samardzija. (Until Hill figures something out, I wouldn't even put him in the mix) Lou seems to like the idea of 2 lefties in the rotation, so Marshall may have the advantage going in, not to mention the fact that Lou loves the power arms out of the pen. That said, with what Shark has shown so far, I would prefer to see him get the 5th starter spot and use Marshall in the same role he's had this year. Injuries are inevitable and he'd get his share of starts as it is that way.......
  23. There's a decent amount of pitching out there this offseason for a change.......You have the guys who are old, but still decent with Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, Mussina, Randy Johnson, Schilling, Pedro, Pettitte, and Paul Byrd. Some of those guys will retire, but the fact that there are a lot of these types out there, unless you're a top flight guy like Sabathia or even Sheets(who will get big money, just not CC big), you could see teams pull back at least a little bit on their spending. Some teams would probably rather take a chance on a one year deal on some of these guys than spend mega bucks on Dempster, Burnett, Garland, Lowe, Looper, Oliver Perez, or Randy Wolf. 4-60 sounds about right for Dempster, considering the season he's having. If the Cubs don't see this as a fluke season, they ought to keep him for something around that range. Out of that second group of guys I just named, I could see him getting the largest contract of anyone in that group. Perez MAY get a bit more, because of age, but I don't see anyone else getting close. To the credit of Hendry though, he builds loyalty within the organization as well as any GM out there, from what I can tell. Whatever the actual market is for Demp, I feel confident that we'll get a discount on him at least.
  24. Even with the very advanced age, I really think Hoffpauir will make it into the top 10 next year.
