  1. I get the feeling that if Welington Castillo doesn't bat 1.000 during ST, he won't make the team. And if he does, I'd still give it 50/50.
  2. Personally, I'm not really. I think he's a 1st round talent. But, he's got a propensity to pout and even run down his teammates. Lots of 1's are prima donnas, but if possible, I'd rather stay from them, unless they're at least proven. But, his athletic ability is hard to beat......6'5, 230 and can run a sub 4.4? That's pretty damn special.
  3. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/sam-fuld-fascinating-4th-of/ The Cubs organization still just doesn't get it. Not at all evidently.
  4. That's a solid Int FA signing or a nice overslot in the draft down the damn drain.
  5. If Blackmon isn't an option for us in the 1st round, I'd stay from WR. Sign one in FA, we need a true "1" and after Blackmon, I just don't see any of these guys being mentioned developing into that. Spend that 2nd rounder(for any of these guys other than Baldwin) on a OG, DT, or CB.
  6. Mankins and Nicks would be big splash moves as they are likely to be the 1 and 2 highest paid Guards in NFL history this offseason. Either would be just as big a splash as Peppers. Matt Light is going to be 33 next season, and as a LT? Stay away! Gaither can't stay healthy (hasn't played this season) and is a huge risk to sign, even though he is young. I would look at free agent C's like Samson Satele, Chris Spencer- SEA, or Chris Chester-BAL (Ryan Kalil probably too expensive). As for WR, I really think James Jones is a low cost, huge upside FA that would be a good fit for the Bears offense. He has issues with drops, but maybe that goes away as a definitive #1 WR. Light could easily wind up as an Orlando Pace type bad decision. I'll give you that. While Nicks and Mankins are top notch OG's and will sign record deals for that position, I don't equate it to Peppers, strictly because it'll probably be for half of that type contract anyway. I've always liked Gaither, but acknowledge the injury concerns. Do you think we'll let Kreutz walk? I wouldn't mind any of those guys, but I don't see us letting Olin go. Figure he's a life-long Bear at this point. I kind of like James Jones, but I think Green Bay will keep him and Driver may retire.
  7. I remember the rumors that Cleveland "protected" Lebron from alot of things. I think we're seeing those "rumors" were basically true and he's a jackass that just doesn't get "it" whatsoever and it's came to light now that he's basically got free reign to do and say whatever he wants in Miami.
  8. I don't want big splashy "Redskin, Cowboy" type moves or anything like that. But, if Matt Light, Logan Mankins, Robert Gallery, Jared Gaither, or Carl Nicks is added to the O-Line, I'd consider myself happy with FA. And we could address WR, DT, and more O-Line through the draft. For that matter, I'd be happy with adding Braylon Edwards. Not even going to push for Jackson or Rice. Just think we need to truly address ONE hole through FA and then we can use the draft for the rest......
  9. My biggest issue with the Bears won't be the draft most likely, as much as it is with FA once they get the CBA hammered out. It seems like everytime the Bears get close, they aren't agressive at all and rest on their previous season's success. I'm saying this without looking anything up, but I remember being pissed off most every FA time after the Bears were a playoff team the previous season.
  10. What sucks is their will be no FA before the draft in all likelihood. And players won't be able to be dealt during the draft either. It'd be really nice if we knew whether or not we were going to get a Matt Light or a Logan Mankins to enhance the O-Line or if we were going to sign a Braylon Edwards to be our go to receiver.......
  11. If Soto continues doing what he's capable of, Castro progresses as we think he can, and Brett Jackson can turn himself into a 15-20ish homer, solid OBP guy(personally I don't see this as a stretch) it gives us a TON of flexibility to make impact moves for other needs. If Colvin can be a league average RFer and do it for the minimum, it's a solid value to us. Because it'll help give us the flexibility to make big upgrades at 1B and one of 3B, LF, or 2B through FA or trade, with little thought on whether or not we can afford it. So while I think Fukudome is the better option for 2011, giving Colvin a full year to start isn't something I'm going to get worked up over either. One, because I don't think it's a move that puts us over the hump and two, because Colvin may actually have a future with the Cubs, while Fukudome doesn't. I just want him to be league average. If he can do that, he's just fine as far as I'm concerned. If not, we've probably not lost anything anyway, as the difference between him and Fukudome probably isn't what our playoff chances hinge on as it is.
  12. That's what I'm hoping for, but realistically I'm thinking the end of July/August for B Jax... Then we'll have our starting CF for 2012. What's gonna be scary is the OF for 2012 is Soriano/B Jax/Colvin with Byrd as the 4th OF. I think that Colvin will have to "earn" a spot for 2012. If he does, there's a chance we could trade Byrd, I suppose.
  13. I feel like Brett Jackson will be an everyday player for us by June.
  14. So looking at who's yet to decide, we're waiting on Newton, Floyd, Blackmon, and LeShoure on Offense and Quinn, Fairley, and Houston on Defense as far as guys expected to go in the top 2 rounds go.
  15. I think Marcum is way too low personally.
  16. I'd love for the Bears to find a way to add him, but if he leaves Oakland, I think we're talking about someone giving him "Peppers" money. That said, in listening to him in interviews, he doesn't sound like the "mercenary" type guy that's going to go somewhere for the most money. In fact, with his California roots, even though he's a FA, I think he'll stay in Oakland myself. I don't think he really wants to leave there.
  17. AJ Green finally declared today.
  18. Nnambi Asomugha is now an unrestricted FA. His contract voided because he didn't eclipse some incentives that were considered damn near impossible for him to miss. He can't be franchised either, so whenever FA starts, one of, if not THE best CB in the league will be available.
  19. I'm not going to worry about Castro outgrowing SS for a while, if ever. One of the interesting things to watch though, now that Lee is gone is it appears as if Watkins will move over to SS and Cerda will move back to 2B. I think Cerda as a 2B has value personally. His bat plays much better there than at 3B anyway.
  20. My reasoning is this: There's an article that Ricketts says the overall "baseball budget" will stay the same. He then said this meant scouting, payroll, and player development were the criteria in this. Now, the question to me is this: Does he mean from opening day payroll of last year or what we wound up paying out? Even if it's the latter, we spent 132.5 last year on payroll and also paid Lou 4 mill as well. Quade is getting 850,000 this year and currently our payroll projects to right at 126. Plus, I actually expect us to deal away Gorzelanny, which would take another 2.5 mill or so off of that. We only signed Kim, Serrano, and Sanchez last year as far as "big money" Int FA go, so even if you give them an extra million on top of that to fill out DSL rosters, it takes the Int budget to about 3 million. Then, we spent around 5.5 on the draft last year. If you add all of this stuff up, it's going to leave us 16ish mill to spend on Int FA and the Draft this upcoming year. Maybe more, if Gorz is dealt. Like I have said, I don't EXPECT Ricketts to actually follow through with this, but if he does what he's said he's going to do, then this is what we have alotted for this for 2011.
  21. That too. With the 9th pick, there should be some pretty good talent coming in the 1st couple rounds. And this is supposed to be an unusually deep draft... It IS supposed to be a great draft. What I'm looking for though is a very agressive approach to it. I want to see some major overslots. Take chances on guys that may develop once they're in college or with another year or two in college. Put money into these guys NOW. Do that in the later rounds and take guys worth their pick early on. 10 mill spent on this draft and 5 mill on Int FA is what needs to be done. That's probably about double what we spent last year on these 2 areas and with the idea that we'd spend more this upcoming season, this is what needs to be done.
  22. Per Miles' blog: Other prospect is LHP Zachary Rosscup. 22 years old, drafted in 29th round in 2009, yet to make full season debut.
  23. Moore has about as much chance as Evan Longoria does, as far as being the last person in this deal. I'll be shocked if this last person is anyone who'd even make our top 30 prospects personally.
  24. Why does this have to be considered a "win now" move? Garza is going to be 27 this season and we've got him for 2 more after that. Sure, he'll help this year, but this move is more for the future than it is for 2011, if you ask me.
  25. To me, the MAIN thing for our farm system is that Ricketts spends quite a bit more money on the draft and on Int FA this year than he did last year.
