  1. PSD insider says he's pretty sure corresponding move is taking Bianchi off the 40 man.
  2. Crasnick says 1 yr 8.5 mill. Ruben Amaro= Exec of the year
  3. Reading ChicagoCubsOnline, their recap of Bowden on XM today was that if Theo and Jed were offered BOTH Turner and Castellanos, as part of a package, they wouldn't turn it down. Dombrowski hasn't made up his mind as to whether or not he wants to offer that much.
  4. Well, he's closing on a team that's certainly a contender. But, at least at this stage, he's got to be the biggest loser of this FA class. Unless he got a multiyear deal, which I kind of doubt.
  5. To take an offer like that, I think you'd have to get a big upside guy or two as well and the only one I like in their system is Brenny Paulino. All their upside hitters have too far to go, for me to feel comfortable with. In fact, if I couldn't get either Turner OR Castellanos, it' take Porcello(Jeff, I know you hate him), Smyly, Crosby, and Paulino. No interest in Oliver at all.
  6. He's still pissed Theo left Boston. He's really said some dumb Cub related things this offseason. But the best was saying we didn't have but 4 prospects that make the Red Sox top 30. He's lost it.
  7. I'm to the point that if I could get Turner/Smyly, I'm not even concerned with what else came with it. Fields, Garcia and Vazquez are all toolsy guys, but I don't think any of them are enough to keep me from doing it, as long as I got the 2 pitchers.
  8. Yeah, I think the plan will be to bring up him, Rizzo, Turner(if he's the Garza deal) about the time they sell off Dempster, Soto, Marmol or whoever. Plus, all those guys need a little more time as well. I think they want to give Sappelt and Campana some time, just to see if either of them could show enough to become a better trade chip than they currently are. If we sign Cespedes, I even think he'll get a month or two in AAA. This is audition time for Jed and Theo, in my opinion. Everyone gets some sort of shot, if they're young. Including the Sappelts and Campanas of the world.
  9. Detroit's system isn't very deep, so if they've agreed to send Turner, I bet it is hard for them to give up 2 more of their top 5 to 7 guys. If we're holding out for Castellanos though, I have serious doubts as to whether Detroit does it. Every other team we've heard that's involved(other than Marlins, who are out now anyway) has better depth to deal from. But Detroit has the single biggest chip, so that's probably why we're waiting to see if they cave in.
  10. At some point, you had to figure this was going to happen. Maybe he starts off hot and he's movable at the deadline where we eat 25-30 mill instead of the 45-50 we'd probably have to right now. Trading Byrd probably becomes a priority now though, if we want to give Sappelt and/or Campana some playing time.
  11. Yeah, we've got 7 right now, if you count Shark. Trade Garza, probably with Turner involved and let him start the year in AAA. Personally, I'm optimistic with Shark beating out Wells. Use Wells as the long guy/6th starter. Assuming we sign Rodrigo Lopez, he's a guy we can yo-yo back and forth from Iowa. Same with Sonnanstine and Coleman as well. Midseason rolls around, trade Dempster most likely and bring Turner up then.
  12. I think it's a balancing act, as far as Garza's concerned. You've got the Yanks, Tigers, Red Sox, Blue Jays, and possibly Rangers interested. The Rangers have been known to covet Garza, but have all their eggs in the Darvish basket, unless it falls through. The other trade options are Jurrjens, Wandy, and Floyd, at this point, of which Garza is the most appealing. The FA that are available are Jackson, Oswalt, and Kuroda, all of which have bigtime price tags at the moment, and also are all downgrades on some level from Garza. So, who blinks? Does one of these teams go thru with a move that takes them out? Time's going to become an issue soon, so these teams are going to have to start making their decisions. But, my guess is the fact that Garza is out there has slowed the market down on everyone else, because each of these teams probably prefer him to what else is available.
  13. Jim Hendry must be Morosi's ghost tweeter.
  14. This is the perfect season to try out all of our young bullpen arms. Between Dolis, Carpenter. Beliveau, Maine, Gaub, and Mateo, if 3 or 4 stick, it's a great thing. Hopefully, one of Carpenter or Dolis shows enough to turn into a future closer. My guess though, is we'll still add a couple of potential bullpen arms before the season begins.
  15. If he hasn't been dealt by Friday, Theo and Jed are going to be bombarded with questions during the convention. This has been one of the Peavy/Roberts type of "it's inevitable" things already, but I have no idea what to think at this point. I'm just going to remember what the PSD insider guy said and that's that he wouldn't want to be at the same poker table as Theo.
  16. Miles just said waiver move coming. Maholm signing bringing roster to 41 has no correlation with Garza trade.
  17. Honestly, his late season shoulder injury HAD to have something to do with this, right?
  18. Did we just sign John Grabow for 4.25? No? We got a league average, possibly a tad better starter for that price? Huh, not sure what to say........Oh well, how about our FO is just pretty damn cool.
  19. According to Wittenmyer, Cubs anticipate bringing back Rodrigo Lopez. I'm not starting a thread for that. At least he did mention that the Maholm signing could open things up for a Garza trade.
  20. I'm hoping it's one of those things where they're close to the fence on caving in and when Theo says he'll add in Barney, they think they're getting a solid everyday player and cave. This being said, I still doubt the validity of ANY of this, as NO ONE, other than Kaplan has even mentioned it. Levine made no mention of a potential Garza deal in his Maholm writeup, none of the national guys have picked up on it and while I worded it poorly, I asked Bruce Miles on Twitter tonight if a Garza deal was possible tomorrow and he replied "anything is possible". Not exactly sounding like something's up.
  21. Not that I think it'd happen, but including Barney is about the only possible way I could see Castellanos coming back. Garza/Barney for Turner/Smyly/Castellanos
  22. Coleman would probably slot in at 7. Depending on what we would deem Turner's timetable as. My guess is we'd still add one more guy, maybe even a NRI, to compete here. They keep talking about depth, not sure if they even think of Coleman as that.
  23. I had looked over Sickels' lists, didn't use his rankings, but had us at 17th after the Rizzo deal. I figured a Garza deal would get us to 12th.
  24. Anyone on here can open a Twitter account with a MLB logo, make educated guesses from what actual reporters are saying and act like they've got sources. To say I'm beyond skeptical of that dude, is an understatement.
