  1. That's awesome. As far as Paniagua goes, I think he's older. Maybe 20 or 21. But I think he sits 93-95 and the Yanks were really excited at one point. I guess it makes sense his price tag goes up because of that. I guess I was figuring because he's getting older, the price drops. With us needing pitching, I really hope that's our main target. Assuming we aren't in on Cabrera anyway. I kind of suspect we'll move slowly, instead of making a splash or two this week.
  2. Surely, we won't match that, right? It'd be nice to turn it into a S&T, get something out of it.
  3. If we have to pay 95-97% of Soriano's contract, what's the use of trading him? It makes sense to keep him and give Rizzo at least a tad of protection. That, in itself, is more valuable than the C prospects we'd likely get as a return. I think for me, at this ooint, unless we're saving at least 25% of his contract or receiving something substantial(top 10 prospect or young major leaguer), I'd rather just keep him the rest of the year. Rizzo needs something behind him more than we need a top 30ish prospect.
  4. Thanks Raisin. Cool to see us show interest in Panigua, but I wonder why Badler mentions he could cost MORE now? That doesn't make sense to me, although I think I remember Badler or someone mentioning he'd be a top 10 prospect immediately for the Yanks.
  5. Raisin, anything interesting about the Cubs preview from Badler?
  6. Same here, but because he seems intent on going to Oregon, I didn't list him or a few others.
  7. I'll end it by saying this: The minor league forum here absolutely kicks ass. It's gotten quite a few folks from here to follow things much closer and in years where we're awful, it's following this, that makes it much easier to take. I've learned a ton from Raisin, Toonster, and others as well. I bet Theo wishes the entire Cub fan population knew what we do and understand that we are very clearly making lots of progress.
  8. By proxy, does Jeff Baker make it, as his designated platoon guy?
  9. There's a baseball card store in Hampton that approached me last year, wondering if I wanted to buy 2400 sets of Tides team sets when they had Strawberry. I thought, damn, this guy is coming in a wee bit late here in trying to make a profit.
  10. Hickman would be a really, really nice get for us. I thought we were getting Tomscha, but it appears that's not the case, based on a few tweets. Bonnell probably becomes my second guy, after Hickman, if we have any money left over to make runs at a few guys.
  11. Sure will, Toonster. I've drug my feet and haven't been to a Tides game all year actually.
  12. OK, I see where you're coming from. I guess I was thinking more from a NSBB perspective, where I think Marco probably was considered the better prospect. But if you look at it broader, nationally Torreyes may have gotten a bit more pub and I guess I can see the disappointment of bubble gum numbers anyway. And Marco is technically playing where he's supposed to be anyway. I'm just taking up for my main man, Ronald........ :)
  13. Toonster, I think it's very likely that Torreyes numbers move up to very respectable by the end of the year. If he were hitting .350 in High A, as he did in A, he'd probably be a definitive top 100 guy right now. BA wasn't as high on either Torreyes or Marco, if I remember. I'm on vacation, don't have my book with me. I guess from a true, stats-oriented approach Torreyes' numbers look disappointing to the naked eye. But I don't see that he(other than by me anyway) was any more hyped than Marco. In a vacuum, with us looking at things closer than the national guys, Marco comes off as the much bigger disappointment to me.
  14. Raisin, could you please explain? I'm just saying that Torreyes wouldn't come cloae to being on a disappointing list and used his numbers to show why. OTOH, Marco would definitely show up on my bottom 5, per se, because of his overall numbers. Both are very young, both have plenty of time to work on things, but Torreyes has had a far superior 2012 season. Am I wrong to say that?
  15. You'd take low level bats from the Yankees over Britton/Tillman in a hypothetical? Heck, I've been championing the Yankees as a decent team ... but I'd take almost an O's package if Britton/tillman are in it over the Yankees. All that said, no clue if the Orioles would offer Britton/Tillman, and I imagine they'd give them a spin first themselves, as Tillman is dominating, and Britton is still a highly valued piece. I guess it'd depend on which bats obviously, but Sanchez/Williams for sure. Out of their 4 bats, Austin/Gumbs is about the only one for sure I'd take the O's group over. As I've said previously though, the Yanks packages come in very low on my priority list as well.
  16. Maybe it's the O's history, or lack thereof, developing pitchers. You're right, I should go see Britton pitch at some point. I just see much higher upside packages out there, probably with better chances of getting there, in my mind, figuring the O's have messed these guys up somewhat.
  17. The O's rank dead last for me, out of all the teams supposedly in on Garza. And as much as I want a pitching centric package, I'd be much happier with a package of hitting from the Yanks, than a group of fix me uppers from the Orioles. Texas was supposedly sniffing around Greinke and Hamels, I really want to see them get in on Garza. And since we barely outbid them for him from Tampa, we know they've shown serious interest in the past.
  18. supposedly, they thought it'd take too long to get Lee in shape and up to the majors.
  19. Yeah, I meant Jackie. Actually the reason I said comparable to 36 and 47, is because I agree Bradley is probably 51-75ish. But I think Barnes may be top 30 as well. By the way, I'd stay away from Baltimore's guys in a Garza package. If I'm trading Garza, the package can't be a couple of buy low types. I want guys who are ascending in value, not trying to regain what they've lost. By the way, unless he just started pitching again in the last week or so, Campos is hurt too.
  20. Toonster, Torreyes on the disappointing list? Really? His walk rate is up, his K rate is too, but it's miniscule and phenomenal for a 19 year old playing High A ball, showing be's been unlucky as a player can get. He's showing pop, as his extra base hits are actually up from last year as well. No clue as to why he'd make your disappointing list, while your main man, Marco, did not, and should have. Not even close. Playing a level BEHIND Torreyes, and all of 4 days younger(his age for level is still excellent, but I'm comparing him to Torreyes right now, not anyone else) his K rate went a disturbing level, his walks went down, and his XBH did as well. Yes, he had a fairly decent last 10 games or so, but the bottom line is he got demoted. He wouldn't have if he had played better, Baez or no Baez. If one of these two guys has lost anything this season, it's Hernandez, and it's not even close.
  21. Underwood is at Wrigley, taking pictures with his family and threw with Theo watching. No word on whether he's signed or not.
  22. Olney said that earlier, but Lee said he's going to talk it over with his wife and hopefully decide by tomorrow.
  23. Soriano has two years left on his deal, is obviously streaky as hell, and his knees may scare the [expletive] out of other teams. He may not even be able to pass a physical, for all we know. We may be stuck with him and if he's playing decently at this time next year, may be able to save a few mill at that point. I figure the only teams that MAY have any interest in him this year are Tampa, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh possibly. Oakland, if they keep hovering within 4-5 games of the wildcard. My guess is if he gets dealt this season, it's in August.
  24. My guess is they'd move Vogelbach up and alternate them between 1B and DH.
