  1. I saw someone mention its 75 cents per estimated heartbeat.
  2. What the hell is an E grade?
  3. http://muskat.mlblogs.com/2014/01/15/115-cubs-rookies-notebook/ Puff piece, with some actual info. Looks like Kevin Encarnacion and Jose Zapata were among FIVE Cubs in that car crash a little while back, and are doing well, but STILL in the hospital.
  4. As much as I bitch about Ricketts, I don't think he is evil and I actually DO think his heart is in the right place, when it comes to the Cubs. I think he may be a little too green in some areas, which may have helped cause a stall in the renovations.(worst case) But it will get worked out at some point in the near future in one way or another. I think that they sorely need a money influx and thought that it would have happened by now. That includes Ricketts AND the FO. Nothing has gone right for Theo since he's gotten here, from the renovations to the changes in the CBA. I think they had planned on going completely apeshit in the draft and with IFA's, then found out they couldn't almost immediately. I think they had planned to be spending quite a bit more by now, but are restricted, for lack of renovation money. Again, that WILL get handled relatively soon. In the end, I can't see Theo/Jed leaving after 5 years, even if things haven't changed much from a monetary standpoint. Because they have built a future lineup that may very well be lethal and should be rounding into form right around that time. Theo knows the kind of legacy he'd have for ending 2 "curses", if we're showing signs of life, even with a sub-100 mill payroll, he'll see it through, for that reason alone.
  5. As much [expletive] you money as the Dodgers may have, if they're trying to lock up Kershaw by Friday at around 300 mill, I have a hard time seeing them giving Tanaka 150. That'd be 600 mill for their top 3 starting pitchers. Not to mention, they like Price a bunch. Maybe they wait Tampa out and go hard after him instead of Tanaka.....
  6. If whatever it is, IS something big, the Cubs would probably do everything possible to hold it in until Friday night, in my opinion. Makes sense to me anyway......
  7. We don't have a 1B worth a damn at AAA do we? True. And Olt has played some 1B and OF actually. There was a time some thought Villanueva could stick as a 2B too. In both cases, our best case scenario probably has them each developing into a Zobrist type that can play a bunch of spots.
  8. Just drink the iocane powder already. http://thetorchonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/iocane-powder.jpg Thanks, it's hard enough trying to have a meeting, while typing on here inconspiculously. Just lost it with this though. I'm super professional.
  9. We really have a logjam at 3B. It'd be perfect if Olt truly is over his stuff and wins the job out of ST. If not though, do him and Villanueva just split time at 3B for Iowa, DH'ing the other games? Plus, I can easily see KB moving up midseason as well.
  10. I saw teams expect him to get 140 now, plus the fee. I'm the wrong person to ask, because I'd go balls out. If it takes 175, I'm in. There aren't 25 year old guys out there hitting FA with his upside, he pushes us closer to contention, I'm all in. If the Dodgers offered him 250? Gotta admit, I'd laugh, tip my cap, then probably cry.
  11. I really hope Soler starts at Tennessee and Almora at Daytona. I think they're ready. Out of character for the FO, but I wonder if it's POSSIBLE they start them both in Tennessee.
  12. Mark Walter feels sorry for us and is donating 50 million to our payroll for the next decade.
  13. McLeod mentioned Bryant likely to start in Tennessee, Javy in Iowa at SS, Soler and Almora TBD.
  14. We just signed Chris Coghlan to a minor league deal. That HAS to be it.
  15. I'm wondering if we'll even see any more of our own FA sign back before FA starts. Wootton just had surgery that could affect his FA market somewhat, Melton is coming off injury and now a legal issue(even if it's not his fault) and Tillman seems to not be a high priority for us either. Ratliff evidently wants multiple years, while he may not be our highest priority among our own DT's, much less what may be on the market. If we DO make any more moves prior to FA, my guess is it'd be DJ, or Garza, since both seem likely to sign back cheaply.
  16. They'll both be up in 2014. I asked him and he said he only put it that way because KB has a position to come up to, while Javy doesn't. He doesn't know if Olt will be back to normal or not, so he kept him off the list. And just to head things off at the pass, Chris is extremely hard to get an 80 grade out of. I think Hamilton's speed may be the only one currently for him. I'm more curious how KB has a higher present than future grade. With the glove? Guess he figures he's as good as he'll get at 3B currently?

  18. Soler 4th, CJ will be 5th for me, because Almora got voted in at 3.
  19. http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2014/01/top-14-in-14-chicago-cubs/ Chris Crawford's top 14 Cubs prospects with tool grades.
  20. Well,if true, are you pleased?
  21. I'm guessing we COULD sell them at any point. But I see no reason why anyone would theoretically buy something now that doesn't go into effect for years and the market can easily be defined as volatile. The same reason any of these 25 or 30 year deals happen? They'd just be getting fewer games the first 5 years or w/e. Hell if I know. Just spitballing. Oh, I see the point. But with the risk involved in all these deals, it's one thing to pay whats perceived market value at THAT time. To me, it'd just be TOO much of a risk to do it when you don't have to. At least not without seeing a large discount, which I can't see a team doing. Who knows though? Guess its possible BOTH sides would want to get it out of the way.

  23. http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2014/01/14/durkin-breaking-down-the-bears-salary-cap-situation/ Very nice breakdown of Bears cap situation. If we designate Peppers as a June 1st cut, it spreads hit over 2 seasons. Instead of saving around 10 mill to this years cap, it's actually closer to 14 or so.
  24. It's a Scott Baker signing. We caved and gave him a guaranteed deal, since no one else will.
  25. Crawling? Really? You had to say crawling? That scares the [expletive] out of me. He's as frustrated as we are. Edit: It's also a prime spot for a misquote, as you could have said "clawing", I guess.
