  1. I definitely want a SS signed in FA, preferrably a very, very good one. And either bring in a league minimum vet or a middle round pick to compete with(hopefully beat out) Conte.
  2. I don't know about that For 2015, the Yanks have A-Rod(38), Teixeira(33, 34 in April), CC(33), Ellsbury(30), McCann(30), Brendan Ryan(32), and Matt Thornton(37) under contract for close to 127 mill. For 2016, they've got the same group, minus Ryan and Thornton for slightly under 124 mill. For 2017, they've got 64 mill invested in A-Rod, Ellsbury, and McCann. They have one of the worst systems in the game to pull from and not much flexibility to make major acquisitions, as it is. And old as dirt. I would take our current situation and a capped 110 mill payroll for the next 5 years than theirs, capped at 200, for that same time. And we have a TV deal coming, to where ours won't be stuck, while theirs very likely is going to hover in that range.
  3. My dream scenario is Bryant/Baez/Alcantara/Rizzo with Castro traded for something stupidly awesome. Mine is Olt/Baez/Alcantara/Rizzo with Soler/Almora/Bryant, with Olt being a consistent GG, .800ish OPS type at 3B. Castro performs this year and is dealt for Wheeler and Syndergaard.
  4. I'd say that all depends on how his representation wants to handle the negotiation. Obviously, the information isn't public. But I don't see how this would differ from any other FA. Without knowing HOW deals are negotiated, I've always pictured Boras going back and forth to each team, trying to squeeze every last cent out of everyone, pitting them against each other. If this was handled as a sealed bid, everyone give me your best, up front type of deal-I think it'd help us.
  5. My guess is we hear an answer sometime late tomorrow evening.
  6. A thousand Stanley Nickels says he'll pat himself on the back when Rosenthal posts a blurb that still mentions the Cubs being involved.
  7. Thats exactly when I see the need to vote for 3, because my guess is Candelario, Villanueva, Hendricks, Vizcaino, Olt, and Blackburn will all see a few votes inside the top 10.
  8. Loxas has been dead on recently. Said Tanaka wouldn't be posted, has been saying we had no shot, then ventured into football saying Cutler didn't know whether Bears even wanted to offer him a contract-only to see him sign his extension the following day.
  9. Just voting for one still. Don't see the point of voting for 3 guys. You're just not making your vote count that way. Sorry Dan, you're 8 for me and you'll get my vote next go around, assuming PJ wins this one.(as he should)
  10. Went with Dodgers, thinking being that they've got a ready to win team, the largest Asian population in the US, and a pitchers park, to go along with whats likely a competitive offer.
  11. I do believe in the debt structure issues. I believe Wittenmyer dug into that with all he had, mainly because they've shut him out from having anything else to do. I definitely think he has an axe to grind, since he has been shut out of everything important, as has everyone else, since the FO took over. My main point of contention is this: I get David's point about Ricketts did this type of loan because it was required, in order for him to buy the Cubs. But WHY do it, when no one else was willing to? Are we talking a hundred million dollar price differential, if it was opened up to the highest bidder, no strings attached? Was it Ricketts ONLY shot at winning the bid? We'll never know these things, but I will always think Ricketts jumped the gun here and did the loans in an unnecessary way, that hindered the Cubs at the beginning of his ownership. It may not matter in the future and we've just got to deal with it now, but I do think things could have been different.
  12. Kinda sounds like no one in this front office has decided to talk to him behind the scenes much. Kinda sounds like the team is in a bad place and has been for several years. Everyone knows the Cubs are in a bad place in certain ways, but Wittenmyer clearly has an agenda at this point. Stop playing devil's advocate in his defense. It's not just "certain ways", it's the only way that matters. Why are you the judge jury and executioner when it comes to who can be defended? Some people seem more interested in defending an owner who has purposefully underspent and has had the team do nothing but lose, but get pissed at media members who call them out for it. Wittenmeyer is the debt structure guy. Which you don't believe has anything to do with the Cubs not spending. So, why are YOU defending him?
  13. If I were to read anything into it (which I'm not, really), it wouldn't be that it might help get him here. It would be that he's seriously considering coming here. Ah, good point.
  14. I can't put much thought into the Shawn Ryan stuff honestly. You don't think the Dodgers or Yankees have fans with the ability to do the same thing? And if this is important, you don't think they'd make those calls? We may get Tanaka somehow, but it's not going to be because of a promise to get his wife on a TV show.
  15. No clue about her agency, but Shawn Ryan(The Shield) prmised her a role in his next show, via Twitter, if Tanaka goes to the Cubs.
  16. I agree with wekim on Hannemann, for the most part. I definitely have Balaguert and Dunston ahead of him, with Hannemann looking outside my personal top 40. Doesn't mean he's not a prospect, but he's got to get moving quick obviously. I'm all about taking shots on toolsy types, but a raw 22 year old draft pick? That's pushing it for me, but we'll find out a lot pretty soon with him. If he produces well in Kane County, then he's just going to be an older prospect that never gets ranked highly by the pundits, due to the age vs level thing. Doesn't mean he can't become a useful piece for us though. Just that his clock started ticking much quicker than most others does. But until he DOES produce, I'm going to have Skulina, Masek, and Frazier ahead of him from this past draft, even though they were drafted behind him.
  17. God I love that man Seriously. The dude is awesome.
  18. I'm dreading this. All the false reports of Rakuten deciding to post him or not, I'm wondering how many false "he signed with (blank)" we get, before we get the truth.
  19. YOU MUST BE OUT YOUR [expletive] MIND! STARLIN CASTRO THE GREATEST SHORTSTOP THAT EVER LIVED! HE WAS BETTER THAN DEREK JETER, HE WAS BETTER THAN NOMAR GARCIAPARRA, HE BETTER THAN THAT NEW KID, LOOK LIKE A BULLDOG, WHAT HIS NAME? TROY TULOWITZKI? HE WHOOPED TULO'S ASS TOO. HE WHOOP ALL THEY ASSES! RYAN THERIOT? RYAN THERIOT? OH HERE WE GO. HERE WE GO. EVERY TIME A WHITE MAN START TALKING ABOUT BASEBALL, A WHITE MAN GOTTA PULL RYAN THERIOT OUT HIS ASS! THAT THEY WANT, THAT THEY WANT! LET ME SAY SOMETHING ONCE AND FOR ALL: RYAN THERIOT WAS GOOD. RYAN THERIOT WAS GOOD. BUT COMPARED TO STARLIN CASTRO, RYAN THERIOT AIN'T [expletive]! STARLIN CASTRO WAS 75 YEARS OLD WHEN HE PLAYED! STARLIN CASTRO WAS 76 YEARS OLD WHEN HE CAME BACK TO PLAY FOR THE CUBS! STARLIN CASTRO ALWAYS LIED ABOUT HIS AGE! ONE TIME, I WAS TALKING TO SSR AND SAID "HEY SSR, YOU GOOD FRIENDS WITH STARLIN CASTRO, JUST BETWEEN YOU AND ME, HOW OLD IS STARLIN CASTRO? SSR SAID "STARLIN CASTRO 137 YEAR OLD. 137 YEAR OLD. SO [expletive] YOU. [expletive] YOU. AND [expletive] YOU TOO. WHO''S NEXT?
  20. When I was at a game last year and noticed them I looked it up on my phone before everything started. I'm a real blast at parties. oh my god Wait, so he's taking credit for increasing the bison population, even if he's just making hot dogs out of them?
  21. Who shall come forth as defender of Castro, to give RawDawg a black guy?
  22. I'm replying before I read this. I'm very hopeful of the possibilities here.
  23. I hope your want of Santana on a 1-10 scale is -13,000.
  24. Which again, I think Gonzalez mistook radio and TV, no one else said this could be announced prior to the season. Even without Gonzalez, we've had lots lately to think a deal on this front is getting close, though. True. And honestly, if we get Tanaka or not, I think the reports on what we're offering, lend credence to something being close as well. Just don't want people wondering why it's not done ASAP. But yeah, I definitely think its coming. Theo is too confident and he chooses his words as carefully as anyone.
