  1. Yeah, if we've got an unprotected pick, I think we'll pass for sure on big FA again unfortunately. Good news is I suspect we'll do all we can to make sure we're protected. Bad news again though, I think it'll get pretty hairy this year. I can see Wood pitching better in the 2nd half and Arrieta becoming a legit frontline starter, kind of canceling out losing Shark and Hammel. And I can see Alcantara making an impact in the 2nd half, helping Rizzo and Castro out, with Castillo turning in a solid 2nd half too. It's going to come down as to how bad Beeler, Rusin, Wada and Hendricks are. And I've got a feeling that as a group, 2 relatively average ML starters turn up there. Maybe not even average, but not completely awful. [expletive] it, it's obviously not bad news if that happens and if it does, maybe it forces them to go against the grain and give up the 1st anyway.
  2. Bosh AND Wade opt out.
  3. I thought he had the most range of the 3, but the arm was a bit less.
  4. Not as strong of an arm and inconsistent, but everything still pointed to him being ABLE to stick at SS. If he were in just about any other org, he'd still be there. Most don't happen to have an All Star 24 year old and a top 10 prospect in AAA already on their depth charts. Not advocating it, as I'm very excited about his progress, but it's likely he's at his highest value right now. Teams looking at him as a SS still adds value, great season in AAA.....BP is going to have him in their top 30, I doubt they're far off from how he's being perceived.
  5. I'd love to find a way to pry JBJ from them.
  6. He was replaced in the 6th. Hopefully it's because they think he's ready to rejoin Tennessee.
  7. http://sbb.scout.com/story/1413983 Excellent info, even projected money on Tomas. Forgot to post it here a few days ago.
  8. Is there anyone that doesn't?
  9. He'll contribute, which is good obviously. I didn't expect us to take 2 guys to play this year anyway, so I'm fine with it. Especially with Saric going off the board next.
  10. http://chicagocubsonline.com/archives/2014/06/jeff-samardzija-wants-stay-cubs.php#.U6yKVDy9LCQ Interview with Shark.
  11. If I'm choosing between Harden/Howard and Rose/Noah, I know which way I'd go and it's not pro-Chicago.
  12. WTF? That's all it took for Afflalo?
  13. Houston got rid of Asik to the Pelicans for a future 1st(likely 2015)
  14. Very encouraging for Vogelbach.
  15. I honestly think we'll miss on the big guys again. I do think we'll get a Hayward or Stephenson though. I'm hoping for Afflalo, but seeing him attached to other rumors has me not liking our chances.
  16. Cubs announce they've signed 21 of top 22 picks. Only Cease remains.
  17. If we can get a .725, .750, and .800 OPS out of the 3 rookies, is that too much to ask? I think it's reasonable and if one falters, you've got Valbuena anyway. SSR's point is very real though.
  18. Perfect world-I'd rather beat Lebron for a title. Near perfect world-Winning with Lebron. That said, I think we have zero chance of getting him. I'm just hoping he heads to the Western Conference somehow.
  19. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/on-the-block-the-2014-trade-chips/ Useful chart.
  20. I keep going back to this, but if there's a part of Shark that wants to stay-just [expletive] extend him. I'd go ahead and go to 6/120, if necessary. You still have plenty of money for another SP and an OF for next year. C Castillo 1B Rizzo 2B Javy or Alcantara(Valbuena if necessary) SS Starlin 3B Javy or KB(Valbuena if necessary) LF CF Alcantara or RF KB or Leaves us needing 2 OF(one of which could be cheap) SP Shark, Arrieta, Wood, Jackson Bullpen is a strength 30-40 mill to spend......We can definitely contend next year with a solid OF bat and an impact SP
  21. He really should be in the DSL if he isn't going to play. Of course we have no idea if he's hurt since the AZL doesn't do DLs. I'm hoping he's getting hours of time with Manny individually and won't be playing in games until Manny leaves.
  22. They'll be good again and their current sucking will have never happened.
  23. Would mgmt look at Arrieta + Strop as more their own failure or the fault of the coaches? Either way, it doesn't bode well for another deal, in my mind. It could result in some new coaches and new general pitching philosophies, but watching us turn another pitcher of theirs into what they're trying to trade for...... Likely isn't what they want to see happen.
  24. I can honestly say I expect Baltimore would be very hesitant to deal with us again, at this point.
