  1. He's such an odd dude. Is he a guy that will buy into some of Joe's shenanigans? He's not a dick or anything, he just seems to be a loner. Oh well, I've got no doubt we'll do the necessary homework. Adding either of him or Price would be awesome.
  2. I'd assume the 23 and under crowd(which Sierra isn't a part of) goes Norge Ruiz, Vladimir Gutierrez, and Cionel Perez. With 16 year old Adrian Morejon being a wild card. Could be 1st if Sanchez' reports are correct. By the way, on page 14 of this thread, I've got a list of all the "known" guys and am keeping it updated with signings and moving guys around as to whether they're eligible yet or not.
  3. It's definitely interesting, but I couldn't pull the trigger in the end. I think Javy would be fine, but I think Addison is going to be a stud. Pollock already is and I get that......But damn, I'd pass and try never to think about it again.
  4. If this is setting up to where Shark or Lackey are the second best pitcher we add this off season, count me in as very happy.
  5. Trained well in the art of meatballing, have you?
  6. You think? I can't see it. If anything, I could even see it being slightly under 20, since I have doubts that teams value base running and defense as much as the metrics we know do. Especially since most feel defense peaks early. I can't see him taking less than 7 years and could see him get 10. The ONLY way I see him coming remotely close to 30 per year is if he signed a super short deal(3-4 years) for some reason.
  7. Its the difference between 5/150ish on Greinke, Price at 7/210ish and Heyward at 9/180ish. Total money outlay is going to be high on all 3, but the extra years really make Heyward the easier of the 3 to fit into that type of scenario.
  8. It can be done, even if the 130 speculated numbers by basically the entire media is correct. It'd be easier with Heyward as the big signing, as he's likely 20 mill per, versus 30 for Price/Greinke. Either way, it'd require some back loading, big signing bonuses, finding a pre arb guy for CF or the 2nd pitching spot, getting rid of Wood, Coghlan, and/or Hammel. Example- Price/Greinke, Shark, Ozuna Heyward, Shark, Salazar
  9. That's basically where I'm at too.
  10. It doesn't seem like we have much interest in him. Personally, I'd be OK with him, but at a price. 5/90 or something of that sort. Which very well may be a back handed turn down, as he's likely to get more than that elsewhere. I don't have anything to back this up, but I honestly think I'd take Shark's next 5 years over Cueto's(or Zimmermann's). I guess I'm buying into Shark's durability, while questioning both those guys.
  11. This is the genital wart of WSR threads.
  12. Damn, I forgot that in all of our waiver wire roulette moves, we had Liam Hendriks briefly.
  13. Adding the 3 arms in the last few days spelt doom for Black or any other pitchers we left unprotected. We'll probably lose a guy in the Rule 5, but not likely to be of any consequence.
  14. I'm telling myself we've got something much better in store.(if not, we missed a nice buy-low opportunity)
  15. David Kaplan ‏@thekapman 1m1 minute ago #Cubs and #Rangers have indeed made a deal. It is very minor. Players have not been informed and 99% of you have never heard of either guy.
  16. Aren't we like an hour away from the roster deadline? It's today. For some reason, I thought it was late this evening, but I have no idea. But yeah, this is probably a small deal.
  17. OK, so now we know what Maybin was worth in trade. Nothing. (I kind of wish we had done that)
  18. Robert Murray ‏@RobertMurrayBBE 1m1 minute ago Source: #Cubs and #Rangers have made a trade. Names involved unclear.
  19. I think he's solid depth. No issue with that.
  20. I keep going back to them somehow having the money to make a run on Moncada. I think the one time expense helps our matters somehow on these situations. At any rate, I think we'll spend 10-15 mill on the 23 and under Cubans(at least) without counting the overage and not have it count against the payroll. Whether there's been a built up slush fund or not, I have no idea. But I fully expect us to be extremely active on that front. I think I kind of agree on the 40 mill range to work with too, just not sure whether it's a flat 140 number or if it's 130 and we deal off Wood and Coghlan to get there.
  21. With Acevedo and Leathersich added, it makes tomorrow's deadline a bit more interesting. I'd say my confidence on Pena has taken a severe hit based on those 2 moves. Obviously Contreras gets added and I'd say I'm 95% sure Johnson and Candelario are as well. After that, I'm 50/50 on Vogelbach now. Was higher prior to those 2 moves, same with Pena. I've been in doubt on Corey Black, but I'd assume he's still a consideration. What can we drop though? Beeler, Jokisch, and Medina seem the obvious choices to me. Medina especially, as he's out of options. Leathersich conceivably can get passed through again himself, with the fact he's just had TJS making it iffy if other teams want to add him right now. Szczur and Villanueva are out of options as well, I could see them being moved tomorrow, I guess. I'd think maybe it'd be in minor trades though.
  22. Coghlan off the scrap heap and Valbuena seem to be the two best reclamation guys. Cahill and Richard certainly helped this past year too, although Richard was a trade. I'm sure there have been a few other non roster invitees/minor league signings that provided some semblance of value along the way. I don't follow each team close enough to know where we stack up in comparison, but I like the overall activity, if nothing else.
  23. #Cubs | From the Wire: Cubs Sign RHP Andury Acevedo https://t.co/ZWeRcw0FY6 #MLB Seems like an interesting pick up. To give him a 40 man spot shows we must think pretty highly of him.
  24. Boom!! Two claps and a Ric Flair for @JArrieta34 for winning the NL Cy Young Award!! Congrats bro! #LetsGo https://t.co/3RFxwGD2H1
