  1. I don't think Manny wants to come to Chicago. :( I have never heard him say "I dont want to play for the Chicago Cubs."
  2. Thats all we have had for the past.....oh.......hundred years.
  3. I just dont see why Hendry dont try to go after Manny. He is FAR FAR better than any OF'er that we have. I know how most people feel on this board, but his numbers dont lie. I read again today where the BoSox are trying to work out something with LAA. And yes, I know all the negatives. Contract, attitude, defense. If he produces, and the Cubs win, who cares? At least take a look see.
  4. that is a great staff...like everyone said though, the key is going to be if they will be healthy. If all of them stay healthy for the good majority of the year, there's no reason this team shouldn't be able to contend with the Cards. but realistically, I don't think the pitching staff is going to be healthy this year :( Prove me wrong Woody. One can only hope.
  5. Thanks, thats what I thought. If he has another injury plagued year, then I think he would know that he would only get a 1 year contract in FA. I just think he is destined for the pen. I believe his injury history dictates that. He really could be lights out if he would stay at relevers pay.
  6. Kinda off the arby topic, but I have a contract question. I believe that Wood has a mutual option in 07. I could be wrong about the year, but anyway, I was just wondering that if he has another injury plagued year, that if BOTH he and the Cubs could void that contract, and sign a new one. If that could happen, I would love to see him in the pen. But not at 13MM or whatever the figure is. Can someone help me on this? Thanks
  7. If everyone stays healthy, thats a killer rotation and pen. I like it alot too.
  8. I could live with that. :D
  9. That would be the best case IMO. It happened for the Sox, avoided the injury bug, and had career years from their starters and pen. In the Cubs case, they would not have to have career years, just pitch without getting hurt, and pitch to their carrer avgs. I don't see this as unrealistic at all. They just need to stay healthy.
  10. Does anyone agree with me here? IF it could fall into place, it would take a lot of pressure off the starters. But on the other hand the pen could be taxed at the end of the year. Thoughts?
  11. I don't know if the Cubs necessarily "want" Graffanino. They like him and would probably take him for not a whole lot. I'm sure they'd see him more as a 3B backup and utility guy. The Walker situation still isn't settled either. He could be used as a nice trading chip come July.
  12. Well, lets get Big Z signed and lets start the season. :D
  13. I thought they were going to try and lock-up Pierre long term.
  14. Do you know the specifics? At least on Pierre?
  15. Lindy also grades our Farm System a C. Milwaukee was the best in the Central with a B.
  16. They are magazines. Lindys Baseball Scouting Report 2006 Street & Smiths 2006 Baseball Yearbook
  17. Are both of these on the newstands already? If so, that makes a happy camper because I'm going to on flights this weekend and need reading material! Yes they are. I bought both of them this morning.
  18. I agree with Sully. A lot of the sucess of the 06 team depends on the health of the pitching staff. I think if we can get a lead and have the starters go 6 or 7 innings than we should be in good shape. I think the "new" bullpen will slam the door shut. Thus saving the wear and tear on the starters. However, you still have the "Dusty over uses the bullpen" theory. IF the pen is as good as I think it will be, the Cubs could make the games 6 innings. Like the Astros with Lidge, Dotel, and Wagner. Although the Cubs pen will not be as exciting, or as good, I think the "POTENTIAL" is there. Thoughts?
  19. I wonder what the purpose of that decision was. Really odd.
  20. Thought this might cheer some folks up. Lindys 2006 Baseball Guide picks the Cubs to win the Central. 1. Cubs 2. Cards 3. Astros 4. Milwaukee 5. Pitt 6. Reds Street and Smith's 2006 picks 1. Cards 2. Cubs 3. Astros 4. Milwaukee 5. Reds 6. Pitt Both like the bullpen additions and Pierre and Jones.
  21. Harry is the whole reason that I am a Cubs fan today. In 1984 I was in 4th grade. I had just had ear surgery and could not do much of anything. My dad had just hooked up cable to the TV that was in my room. I liked WGN because of the Bozo show in the morning. Well, one day I fell asleep after the Bozo show, and woke up, and the Cubs were on. At that time I was not a sports fan, but listening to Harry and Steve that day was great. They both made me laugh. As a matter of fact, this whole thread has made me laugh, and smile. Sometimes I wonder why I am a Cubs fan. They never win, my friends always get on me about it. Reading this thread just reminded me of why I am a Cubs fan. Why we all are Cubs fans. Because we are all family. Its more than just being a fan. Its because the Cubs have touched our lives in some way. Great memories. Thank you to whoever started this thread.
  22. I also hope he is playing instead of Mr. Perez. Mr.? Way Way to nice.
