  1. Yeah, misunderstanding a question and answering it wrong on ESPN due to his language won't get him nailed for perjury.
  2. I actually think that the Wii may prove to be a better vehicle for FPS games than the PS3 or the 360. It's true that lately the genre has become the poster boy for cutting-edge graphics and physics -- the main selling point for Sony and Microsoft but a drawback for Nintendo -- but nice eye candy doesn't ensure a fun gaming experience. Every experience I've had with a console shooter has been frustrating at best, and what made it frustrating was the control scheme. Call me a purist, but a couple of analog sticks don't give you anywhere near the precision/control of the keyboard/mouse setup on PCs. This is where the Wii comes in; I think the nunchuck/wiimote combo could be a great substitute for the PC controls of shooters provided it works as I envision it. Sure it won't look as pretty as on a PS3 or XBox, but I'll take intuitive, fun and dated over clumsy, frustrating, and pretty any day of the week. That being said, I'll concur with your first sentence. A decent gaming PC + a Wii is probably the setup Ill end up choosing when I decide to join the next generation of console owners. I couldn't agree more with the bolded part. If Halo was on a PC I would be much, much, much better. Instead, I get invited to play and get owned (pwn3d). I'm interesting in trying out a wii to see how responsive the controlers are.
  3.  I can never get enough of Modzilla's avatar
  4. That's part of why I would lean toward wii. Nintendo may not have the best graphics, but they always managed to come up with really creative games. I feel like the majority of the games out there are covert-ops first person shooters, racing games, or sports titles. They're fun, but you need other stuff sometimes.
  5. I don't get what's so sad. He made his own bed, and agreed to the punishment. This isn't some heavy handed monarch ruling against a poor shlub who was trying to feed his family. That's a big part of it in my opinion. He may have been able to make a stronger argument if he hadn't already agreed.
  6. Wow. There's something I wouldnt have even thought of...
  7. Jeez, when did you attend/graduate? NU's no powerhouse, but we have won 3 conference titles and attended 5 bowls in the past 11 years... Definitely rampant hyperbole on my part, and I meant it to be that way - I graduated in 2005. Basically, my freshman year was the year things fell apart (SI had us ranked preseason #12, I think, and we wound up being pretty pitiful), and they stayed poor to mediocre until last year, the year after I graduated (when they still weren't anything special). I figured you were kidding a little bit, but I was just thinking about our school spirit today so I thought I'd say something. I overheard a freshman saying "God, our football team ALWAYS loses." I think the losses stick too much to our student body than the wins, unfortunately. We should make some noise next season though if everyone can stay healthy.
  8. Maybe because he was on a world series winner? His 2005 postseason stats are decent (the ones people who "rate" look at -- BA, HR). He performed well under the spotlight or some crap like that I guess.
  9. Company and market diversification be damned!
  10. They should have a Big Ten-ACC challenge in football... then the Big Ten would show them who's boss. As a fan of the ACC (I grew up in North Carolina), and an alumnus of the Big Ten (Northwestern), I'm a little torn on this idea. Obviously, the ACC would be destroyed. Northwestern might even win, which is about as common as Halley's Comet. Even if they did do it, though, college basketball's clear superiority over college football would win the day for the ACC (man the BCS is stupid). Jeez, when did you attend/graduate? NU's no powerhouse, but we have won 3 conference titles and attended 5 bowls in the past 11 years...
  11. ALL WHILE WEARING A HEADBAND :D
  12. NU looked good tonite. Princeton offense was working quite well. It's too bad I had too much work to do to go.
  13. Maybe he doesn't feel different or special, instead, he feels the coach has his head up his butt and is worried about stuff that does not matter. That's a problem. Like I said, it's not about the rules. They didn't create it for Wallace specifically. It's about thinking that it's not a big deal to break team rules and policy, which is exactly what he did. Call it the broken window theory of sports, but if you let the little stuff by then it undermines having rules in the first place. It's not up to Ben to decide which rules are important and which aren't.
  14. #1- The police are trying to do just this right now, except Barry and his boys are not cooperating with authorities. #2- You are confusing the justice system (legal) with ethical behavior. You can be legal, but not ethical- which is why i pointed out the ethics clause in the portion of the balloting. The 3 mentioned do not meet the criteria established for ethical behavior among professionals. #3- Read the Patriot Act. You might be surprised even for America what you have to prove these days. Hopefully you arent on the no fly list either. Good luck with that if you are. I'm not going to debate the Patriot Act with you when we're talking about baseball. The act involves a small percentage of those in this country, many or most of whom are not US citizens. By and large, we are an innocence-first country and always will be. I don't think that's debatable. What was unethical about what they did? What would have been ethical? What are the ethical standards of the MLB, which has allowed racists and other cheaters (inc Perry who wrote a book bragging about it) into its Hall of Fame? Its arbitrary. And if Barry and his boys aren't cooperating, then they can and will get tagged with obstruction of justice, and that will be enough. Your "evidence" just isn't enough to make a strong case. It's speculative and very circumstantial. I'd like to catch cheaters as much as the next guy, but we can't just go around deciding who is ethical and who isnt with arbitrary rules. Rose himself agreed to permanent ineligibility from baseball. End of story.
  15. The issue isn't with the rule, it's that Wallace openly broke the rule and said that he wasn't worry. For $60 mil I think he can manage. There are other players on the team who are playing much better than Wallace is who don't seem to feel the need to come out and wear one - -I don't see why he thinks that he's different or special.
  16. Actually, you can. There are 2 character clauses in fact that can preclude baseball players from going into the Hall of Fame. McGwire, Sosa, and Bonds should be nullified just on the basis of their Congressional testimonials alone. And Bonds shouldnt even be allowed on the ballot until the Balco mess is cleaned up totally. At the progression through the court system and with the witnesses being uncooperative, it may take another 20 years at this pace. Shockingly, there is a whole world outside the U.S. where you have to prove your innocence. Even in this country, provisions under the Patriot Act now require you to do the same thing. I just think the players should step up and stop hiding. Thats why i hate them and Rose. Admit what you did in the first place, take responsibility for your actions, and take your punishment like a man. Maybe you find redemption and maybe you dont. But its better in the long run for everyone if you make your own peace. I don't understand why. Proving one's innocence may be the thing to do in other countries, but here in America, (where we live and where the Hall of Fame is), the court systems work on a presumption of innocence until guilt is proven. If they were so guilty, they'd be caught and tried. I don't think there's any debating the system -- it's a very important part of modern democracy as well as human rights. Pete Rose 100% bet on baseball, which is why he is banned. McGwire, Sammy, and Bonds may appear guilty (I'd say McGwire and Bonds more than Sosa) but nothing's proven. Put them on the ballot. If something comes out where it's proven that they cheated, make a rule where you can kick them out if that's what you want, but make sure that you kick out Gaylord Perry as well.
  17. :-s D'oh, DJAXX EDIT silly me Jon shortened his name and DJaxxFan changed his. The mods on this board are really trying to confuse us now... Anyone else going to change their names? I'll be changing mine to SirWinstonCorneliusDogsworthIII this Friday.
  18. I mean, numbers-wise, and as a fan, I think he should. But I'm taking this legally. This is my understanding (and I very well may be wrong): The rule says, 'if you bet on baseball, you cannot be in the hall of fame' Pete Rose bet on baseball. I dont see where there is any room for debate here. Is this incorrect? Either way, what does it matter to anyone but Rose himself? The numbers speak for themselves. If you're a baseball fan, even 50 years from now, you'll know about Pete Rose and how talented he was on the field as well as his shortcomings off of it, just like we know all about Joe Jackson.
  19. Bingo. Let's see how they look next week before pushing the panic button. They did a nice job coming back after the Miami loss. Did we really expect them to go undefeated; to sweep 3 straight East Coast roadies? Grossman has his issues; but let's wait and see. Agreed again. The Grossman haters will ride hard this week, but really, what can you accomplish by playing Greise? Greise was there as a BACKUP in case Grossman got hurt. Until that time I would be very disappointed with the coaching staff if they listened to the talk radio junk and benched Grossman. Grossman is the future, and he's showed a hell of a lot of promise in his first full year. We took down two tough New York teams, and lost to one of the best teams in the NFL, and a 3 time Superbowl QB. Their defense is stellar, and they were playing at home. I'm not saying there weren't things that went wrong, but I'm very far from the panic button. Preach it. Seconded He showed a lot of promise his first 5 weeks, and since then has mostly sucked Those 4th quarter stats they flashed tonight for him were kind of not good. He didn't play/didn't have to try in the 4th quarter of five of those games. Against Minnesota, he still led the winning TD drive. Against Arizona, he was in gunslinger mode (partly a fault of the play calling). Agianst Miami, he had no choice but to put it up in the air at the end. He then played well against the Giants and wasn't given the opportunity to play well against the Jets (but didn't play poorly). And then this game. Beat me to it Jon, great post. Networks love to show 4th quarter stats but at the end of the day, each quarter counts the same and you have to look at the situation at hand. That being said, he's going to have to work on not relying on throws off of his back foot. It's going to continue to get him into trouble as the season progresses and we really can't continue to give up the ball if we're going to win the SB.
  20. Princeton offense is all we can do with this team, but I'll take the win. 1 step closer to the NIT baby! ( )
  21. I'm glad to see the Missouri Valley Conference (my personal favorite) is back wreaking havoc after Wichita St.'s big win over LSU and Missouri St's victory over Wisconsin.
  22. Haha I'm asking for an ARam jersey for Christmas. The guy is just awesome
  23. People to look back and remember what he did for the team, the city, and the fanbase. Remembering how happy he made them feel and how much you loved watching him play. Those who truely hate him choose to focus on a few bad things that he did that I think are trumped by his accomplishments
  24. The NY media is almost treating that Jets game like a Bears loss. Yeah, and pretty much every win last year was exactly like that game.
  25. How do you all pronounce "pecan"? PEE-kahn, or pi-KAHN (or PEE-can) There's always some debate over this.
