  1. This ^^. Besides personal performance the only remaining comparator is salary. Kelly is by far cheaper than Gallen. This begs the questions: What is the prospect cost of Merrill Kelly(cheapest(salary)rental MOR starter)? What is the prospect cost of Eugenio Suarez? What would the pair cost? What does the group think of Shelby Miller?
  2. Sadly the current makeup of the rosters or the conditions conducive for enjoying a game are NOT the factors limiting attendance. It's the DOWNTOWN environment that is the culprit. There is a lawless culture that has been allowed to grow and permeate the whole downtown area. Simply put you just don't feel safe outside of normal banker's hours. It's not the safe and vibrant party type atmosphere it has been in years past. It has fallen off just like Bud Light..... to "its the end of happy hour you know where your car is parked?". Sure, the park and ride share services help access. But the benches, like most downtown, will a have a camped out homeless panhandler. Last summer I paid $30 to park in a "supervised" parking lot...4 other people and I waited 1.5 additional hours to file police reports...yes - 5 smashed windows on outside row. (No, only 2 were Cub fans) Cop indicated that most violations were smash and grabs drug fueled.
  3. This ^^. Way too much. I like the idea of a one stop shop to address needs: Merrill Kelly - Eugenio Suarez - Shelby Miller
  4. There is a simple solution, Jonathon Long is raking @ AAA Des Moines. Have had the pleasure to watch him live 3 times so far this year. The kid's bat is ready. He has played 1B/3B/OF. Outside of 1st base his defense is below average. Compare Moises Ballesteros batting stats vs Jonathon Long. The results may surprise you. The issue with both Ballesteros and Long is they are not great athletes. Finding a position other than 1B/DH is hard. Ballesteros at 5'8" has no business playing 1B. Long at 5'11" batting right-handed playing 1B is not exactly optimal. Both of these guys bat's are ready though. Think it will be easier to find a position for Long than it will be for Moises. Berti / Brujan - redundant - waste of a bench slot.
  5. Sale has a full no trade clause. Atlanta is home for him - he is going nowhere. Probably shopping from this list (until it gets closer to the deadline): Merrill Kelly (Rental 7mill total for 2025) or Zac Gallen (Rental) D Backs Eflin or Sugano from the Orioles, (Both Rentals) Martinez from the Reds (Rental) Andrew Heaney Pit (Rental) Tyler Mhale Tex (Rental) Alcantara Miami EDIT: If Boston and Toronto sell then add: Buehler (Rental) and Gausman (2026)
  6. I can see the reasoning behind keeping Turner with the intangibles. For Berti? No thanks - pass. Waste of a roster spot having both him and Vidal Brujan. They are redundant.
  7. Barring any injuries, does Jonathon Long get called up before the rosters expand in September? While Turner has been somewhat better at the dish lately, I think Long, could cover Turner's production. While adding a lot of lineup flexibility. Covering 1B when tough lefties start, backing up / spot starting at 3rd for Shaw which could give Nico a break at 2nd. Long can also cover the corner outfield spots: Nice pick by Long: Jonathon Long's tremendous sliding catch | 05/31/2025 | MLB.com Can CC get him enough AB's to make it worth it? Would rather see Long get the MLB at bats than Turner or Berti.
  8. Been a Chiefs fan since 1979 when Bill Kenney was the QB. Suffered through some really bad years...The missed field goal in 96 vs the colts hurt. Fast forward to the Mahomes era and everyone is a Chiefs fan or a hater. Bauer may go the way of Ray Rice and never get another chance.
  9. If this was the NFL - Bauer would already be playing for the Cleveland Browns.
  10. Morel has little to no trade value at the moment. Appears Morel had more trade value than you thought. Doing the heavy lifting on the Parades deal.
  11. Add Kevin Orie...Felix Pie to the pile.
  12. Was shocked when Jed actually made an off-season trade to improve the roster by bringing Busch in. Definitely not his standard operating procedure. After what date do the Cubs lose compensation for Bellinger if he signs with another club?
  13. And then you miss the post season by a couple of games...then it's a fiasco that could have been avoided.
  14. Yes, you are correct. Jed doesn't have a past history of utilizing prospects to enhance the roster during the off season. Competitive Position? We compete in the NL central. We were in spring ball. Jed's on the clock now. It's time to horsefeathers or get off the pot.
  15. Jed doesn't move prospects to upgrade the roster outside of the trade deadline so PCA's trade value is a moot point.
  16. We can all hope. Wonder if he is regretting turning down 4 years and 100 million (reportedly) from the Jays during the season.
  17. Wonder what kind of contract shenanigans it would require signing both.
  18. For sure it's crap. It will take a haul to get Cease.
  19. Jed over values prospects and perceives "trade costs" as prohibitive as a result. It's why there is no history of roster upgrades via prospect trades. It's one of his short comings in my opinion. His only "upgrades" are minor moves at trade deadlines nothing that moves the needle in the off season.
  20. Love the trade talk fellas I really do but it's not going to happen. Someone please remind me when Jed freaking Hoyer last traded prospects to upgrade a roster during the off season.
  21. Jed Hoyer is now on the clock: Jed now has his man in the dug-out (Counsell). There is no longer any built-in cover (Theo) or excuses (David Ross). All of the ingredients are in place, there are prospects, there is a core in place, and there is money to spend. The big FA bottlenecks have signed. It's time to put your big girl pants on and go to work. For what you do now in the next couple of years will define you. The eyes of all Cub fans are upon YOU!
  22. His Agent is Scott Boras. Need I say more? If Hoskins does sign elsewhere I think you could sign Belt and CJ Cron for what Hoskins would cost.
  23. I really like Naylor for his left-handed bat, defense and club house presence. Plus he is only 26 years old with multiple years of team control. The only reason he was available was because of financial constraints related to the Guardians TV contract. Additionally, Jed Hoyer does not have a history of trading prospects to upgrade the major league roster during the off season. I think Jed over values and hoards prospects to the extent that any trade "feels" cost prohibitive. As much as I would love to have Naylor and Clase. I just don't see it happening now during the off season while Jed is in charge.
  24. I will admit I drank the Cub off season Kool aid Jed and the media served up. I know better than that as I've been there and done that before, a lot, like many of us. We all heard Cubs will spend...finalist for Ohtani....in on Soto...Cubs will be active at GM meetings. My hopes and expectations were through the roof and yes, they were unrealistic. It was fun to ride the rollercoaster of Ohtani and Soto with you NSBB. Want to wish you all happy holidays!
