  1. Who knows how much we are giving up? You can't say we made a bad choice unless you know who we are giving up. The proposal may very well be too much for us, and even Towers said late last night that while they had some teams agree, that there wiould still have to be haggling going on between the Padres and Cubs to find the right fit.
  2. The "short-term" option stuff just sounds like bargaining tactics to me.

  4. So it was posted about 2 minutes before 12 then, and then he later said it appeared to be nothing important.
  5. Beats me, just reading what was on the right side.
  6. http://elismlbrumors.com/ This site has been iffy in the past, but the dude claims he's at the hotel. He also says that they've been informed a press conference is scheduled at 12 (their time), but that eh doesn't think it's going to be anything significant.
  7. If this thing falls apart, would anybody else be interested in just trading DeRosa for Happ and keeping him for us?
  8. I'd still trade him if it meant Peavy, so long as we have a good platoon, but I agree about his production not dropping off. People forget that he made a pretty big change to his batting stance (I think it was either Michael Young or Ian Kinsler that helped him alot with it), and he's raked ever since that moment. I don't think it's a coincidence.

  10. I really dont foresee a scenerio in which this trade goes down and Vitters isnt involved. I am hoping that if we're giving DeRosa to the Phillies to get one guy the Pads want and Pie + Marquis to the O's to get another guy the Pads want that we can get this done without including Vitters. But it's just hoping and looking at the value of the players involved. Yeah, that's what i'm hoping too. There was the Guzman/Wuertz/Hart rumors, so i'm hoping it's one of them in place of Vitters if we're trading DeRosa.
  11. We wouldn't need trading chips though if we got Peavy+Bradley. Plus, out of those six players, who at this point really has any value? Vitters, obviously. DeRo, but we're selling high. Cedeno isn't good, Hill has gone crazy, Marquis is overpaid, and Pie is a question mark. Yeah, that's horrible logic. About 90% of the short-season A ball team won't make it to the majors, so the Cubs should just trade the entire Boise Hawks franchise to San Diego too by that logic. The fact is, the Cubs would be losing 2/5 of their starting rotaiton from last year, their starting 2B, two of their projected bench players from this year, AND their #1 prospect....and would get 1 (albeit good) player. And 1 of those two is not a very good pitcher for his contract, while the other is helpless in winter ball and the minors. And Cedeno is likely to be non-tendered anyways according to Bruce. You can't just say 2/5th's of their rotation without actually analyzing those players.
  12. I'm sorry to do this to you guys, :D) So this is the trade according to OH: Cubs get Peavy from SD Orioles get Pie, Marquis + 4 million cash from CHI Phillies get Derosa from CHI SD gets Hill, Vitters, Cedeno from CHI, Olson form Bal, Happ from PHI It's nice that we get Peavy but why are we making our offense weaker? I think the Cubs assume that they can get a LH masher at 2b, so the offense actually turns out to be similiar or better at 2B in a platoon, along with Fontenot giving them a lefty bat ine lineup a little more against righties.
  13. BTW, ESPN and Stark has the same source saying nothing close like Rosenthal: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3757369
  14. LMFAO Our buddy Belkast on page 3: I'm sorry to do this to you guys, :D)
  15. I personally don't think the Orioles are invovled at this point, as a few articles quoted some Phillies sources saying their 3 way was more likely than any four way.

  17. Fontenot hammers righties and Aurelia hammers lefties...makes sense to me. How's his glove? No clue, but it's not like DeRo and Fontenot are gold glovers or anything either, so I wouldn't be worried about a huge drop off.
  18. Rich Aurilia+Mike Fontenot in a strict platoon wouldn't be bad though. Aurilia has an .836 career OPS vs. lefties. And even better than .836 over the last 3 years.
  19. Just out of curiousity, how much does Orlando Hudson figure to sign for? I keep forgetting he's even a FA.
  20. Fontenot hammers righties and Aurelia hammers lefties...makes sense to me.
  21. Of all the tidbits mentioned in that Sun Times article, this is the biggest news. All we've heard is that Jake will not revise his list of teams, and that the only team that he can be traded to is the Cubs, and now he says that he expects to land with NY if he doesn't go to the Cubs. Hopefully the Yankees don't hear about this, as they can offer the Padres a much better deal than the Cubs can, and they are much more desperate to find an ace starter, so they would probably overpay for him if CC goes elsewhere. It's a blog from some guy I never heard of (though he works for the Sun Times apparently), so I wouldn't get worked up over what he says.
  22. We all didn't want Aurelia, but after looking at his splits, why not? Over a .900 OPS against lefties last year. It makes more sense than I originally thought... Last 3 years vs. lefties: .305/.354/.545 for an .899 OPS Seems like it could be pretty damn productive.
  23. http://blogs.suntimes.com/fullcourtpress/2008/12/jake_peavy_wants_to_be_a_cub.html LOL, I love how his "sources" are just common knowledge and the Rosenthal mention of Aurelia that was quickly shot down.
  24. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20081209&content_id=3708054&vkey=hotstove2008&fext=.jsp So if it's just the Cubs/Pads/Phils, then no Pie then? But then again SD would probably just want Pie. Eh...it's all too confusing.
