  1. Latos for Murton straight up (assuming no Greene). Kid's going to be a stud. Don't tell Towers that, though
  2. Despite Hendry saying "I wish I could be talking to you with us done, but unfortunately that's not the case"?
  3. http://blog.seattletimes.nwsource.com/mariners/2008/01/lots_of_mariners_news.html Sounds like Seattle is confident they can get Bedard.
  4. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/columnists/cs-080123mitchell_chicago_cubs_jim_hendry,1,6322846.column Hopefully er'tr in on those 3 or 4 good people.
  5. Whoa, for some reason i've been pronouncing it "Ell Iss" in my head. I hadn't even thought of Eli's for some strange reason.
  6. It's never said anywhere in text that SD was shopping Greene to any team, so just disregard anything from Elis. Some mailbag fan wrote in asking if the writer would trade for him and the writer said Greene is such a nice guy, blah blah blah. Nothing about anything.
  7. Extreme flyball hitter playing in the worst ballpark for that. Check his splits. If you're going to have subpar OBP, then you either have to be great defensively (not "Izturis" great) or make up for it with exceptional slugging %. Khalil does both.
  8. Hey, the Pads have given us good prospects before. Throw Latos our way and Murton is yours. LeBlanc is interesting as well, and Hendry has shown interest in him before supposedly (with Prior). Not great velocity on his fastball (88), but has a changeup that could rival Johan. Obviously, it's up to you deciding how much the fastball speed impacts the effectiveness of a changeup, but LeBlanc's is as good as they come. You'll at least know you're getting a guy with a plus plus pitch to build off of.
  9. http://sandiego.padres.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080121&content_id=2352222&vkey=news_sd&fext=.jsp&c_id=sd Please be as reliable as Muskat...
  10. Is Scott Hairston officially not able to play center (2 games there last year). He's got an .800 OPS against righties (don't want him, just throwing another name out there Hendry might have interest in).
  11. Hell, even Gallagher. Soriano DeRosa Lee Ramirez Fukudome Greene Soto Pie Or use Pie in a trade for a SP, sign Lofton, and use him as your speedy lefty at the top of the order if it's so important.
  12. And Phil Rogers has a source that says we are trying to get Bedard and Roberts. The deal would include Pie among others. http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports_hardball/2008/01/fast-food-for-t.html Who knows what to think anymore. More on this: At the very least, this sounds like Rogers believes his source... I think there's something to this but that doesn't mean that Angelos is going to allow the trade. Ehh, while I really want to believe this from Rogers, i've got to stick with Bruce's guns. I have to disagree. I have no idea where Bruce stands on this issue right now (especially since it is very fluid) but there is something to this and more than one media person believes this to be true. I can understand the Cubs denials but where there's smoke there's fire. Angelos' interference is making a lot of credible people look bad. Bruce's "stance" on this is posted on this page. He basically dispelled Rogers and his "source". I'd like it to be true, but I don't really know.

  14. The Orioles Hangout site is talking about Greene because he wants to be on the East coast. The Cubs need a SS more than a 2B, but maybe a deal could be worked with the 3 teams to send Roberts to the Cubs and Greene to the Orioles. Padres get: Cedeno, Murton, Patterson Orioles get: Greene, Headley, Marshall Cubs get: Roberts, Payton, plus cash Follow it up with the Dempster, DeRosa, ???? for Burnett. Roberts leads off and pushes Soriano down in the order. Payton backs up all 3 OF positions. Rotation would be Zambrano, Burnett, Lilly, Hill, Marquis/Gallagher/Hart. \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ I dobut Cedeno, Murton, Patterson gets Headley alone, let alone Greene and Headley.
  15. No, but they aren't pitching back to back to back. I really don't care about what hand they throw with, but it seems like the Cubs do (or would).
  16. And Rogers was assuming Fuku would player center, though hopefully the rumblings about Greene were legit regardless of that.
  17. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/cs-071105rogers,1,60753.column Thinking back to what Phil Rogers was speculating in November: "If the Cubs signed him [Fukudome], they might be in position to use Felix Pie in a significant trade, possibly with San Diego for shortstop Khalil Greene." I think there already is a Greene thread about he and the Padres not reaching terms on a long term deal. He does have 2 years left before free agency. Maybe San Diego moves him now for Pie and something else. Greene will probably make $11M in the next 2 seasons. With SD looking for a left fielder, i'd be inclined to think they would take a Murton, Cedeno, Gallagher or Marshall package over Pie, though I could be wrong.
  18. Nice writeup. What was the response to the "Are we getting Bedard?!" questions? The same old "if we can improve our ballclub" line?
  19. Quick, let's lock up scrappy to a 7/35 deal while we still can.
  20. Are we East Coast enough for him? Better than California...
  21. I say just shoot for Bedard using Pie++. That's what we should do...Z,Bedard,Lilly,Hill,Lieber would be a sick rotation..Then sign Lofton or play Fuld out there..With that rotation, I would not mind the lineup one bit.. Ditto. Sign Lofton, maybe acquire Byrd or someone who can hit lefties good on the cheap. Then use Lofton and Fuld against righties (since Lofton will probably need a few days off), and Byrd or someone against the lefties. Then you'd still have Colvin in the wings, assuming he can up his walks. We'd probably split up the righties and lefties though, and go something like: Bedard Zambrano Lilly Lieber Hill which would be amazing.
  22. Get it done Jim. We'll pay him that extra 1 million.
