  1. days ago when it was a relevant topic. since then he has backed of the trade talk but a lot of people on here act like that didn't happen.
  2. i mean seriously, don't you guys have anything better to do? wait, don't answer. it's obvious now, with tejada having backed off his trade demand, that he's going to stay in baltimore. and even if he weren't, it's unlikely that JH would be willing to match what other teams would likely throw at them for tejada. can we let these threads die in peace and keep discussing possible RFs, bench players, etc....please, just this once?
  3. listening to some of you complain about nomar is making me want to wax my tongue. you make it sound as though nomar is a gold golve rightfielder. last time i checked, he was barely above average at his natural position (SS) and had never played the outfield. so the answer is to give him baptism by fire? nice. if you want to make an argument for keeping him, it should be to have played him at 2B, next to cedeno at SS. but then you'd have to trade walker and if nomar goes down, you're looking at neifi at 2B, which i'm sure would thrill most everyone on the board. let's move on from the nomar thing. it's history.
  4. guys, i disagree with you about rogers; i think he makes a good point. having tejada in the lineup for 162 games per season is going to lead to more wins than having Z start 30 games. besides, he doesn't say trade Z straight up for tejada. he advocates trading Z, cedeno, cpatt for tejada and cabrera then signing a FA pitcher like millwood or washburn. keep in mind millwood led the AL in ERA last year. which difference is greater, Z to millwood or cedeno to tejada? you're also acting like Z is clemens. keep in mind his ERA was 3.26 last year. even if his replacement in the rotation (hill, millwood, cabrera, rusch, jwill) has an ERA of 4.00 in 2006, the upgrade in offense of tejada from neifi last season would more than make up for it. all of you on this board saying the cubs should unload the farm system for tejada are the ones on crack. we just let go of 3 pitchers for pierre and you're saying let's trade 3 or 4 more for tejada? you'll be the same ones on here in 2 years complaining because one of those guys is lighting it up for another team (a la dontrelle).
  5. would the cubs have any interest in him? http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2255821
  6. no way the cubs trade cedeno and walker. if one goes, the other stays. and i agree that trading a pitcher under 25 for a 30 yo SS is foolish. if he can trade prospects and walker/jwill/cpatt for him, great; if not, let's find a RF and move on.
  7. can i become a MOD so i can move about 4 posts on this thread to the other "tejada speculation thread"? until his status is resolved, i would like this to be a "new news thread". thanks for your cooperation in this matter.
  8. story from the tribune on SJMN's website... http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/sports/13379525.htm
  9. the baltimore sun says it HAS been dismissed, quoting a high-ranking orioles official as saying "it ain't going to happen". and this makes sense. if they trade him within the division, that gives him 17/19 games per season to torment the orioles with his bat. probably not a smart thing to do if you're angelos, but then again, angelos isn't known for his baseball acumen.
  10. Guys/Gals, I'd like to devote a thread to new reportings on the Miggy front. It seems like the other ones get filled up quickly with trade ideas and gushings over the potential lineup. I think we're all in agreement that if we were in JH's shoes, we'd trade everything including the kitchen sink to get him and that he'd make our already nice lineup 10x better. Let's only post new reports from various sources on this thread so that we can easily stay up to speed on the developments. Thanks.
  11. is this an oriole fan having a wet dream disguised as a cub fan?
  12. can we re-sign macias and include him in the deal? :-)
  13. what if we had to keep him on the 25 man roster and actually send him to the mound occasionally?
  14. here's the real question: if the orioles wanted to send miggy AND latroy to the cubs for any combination of the prospects/cpatt/jwill that have been discussed, would the inclusion of hawkins make u hesitate in pulling the trigger?
  15. no EFFIN way. would rather have walk!
  16. any talk of trading ramirez should result in the author being dragged from his/her home and beat silly with a wet towel. we waited 30+ years to get a 3rd baseman and we shouldn't consider trading him now to upgrade SS from cedeno to tejada. if it was neifi or macias to tejada, you maybe entertain the idea.
  17. if he would give them a "feel-good story" discount and pitch for $8-$10M, would JH consider it? with clemens, zam, prior, maddux and wood...WOW.
  18. the dodgers drastically overpaid for furcal, that much is fact. yes. he's fast and yes, he plays good D, but $13M for a guy with no power when vlad is making, what, $17M...c'mon? i would much rather see JH re-sign nomar to play 2nd and put cedeno at SS, with walker serving as insurance to both (that means no more macias). he should now explore deals for pierre and abreu/dunn (if they're available). check out this lineup: pierre nomar lee abreu/dunn ramirez murton barrett cedeno talk about a potent lineup. if nomar continues his hitting from last season, and cedeno has just a moderately good first full year (.270ish), then we're in business.
  19. thoughts on nomar... if furcal chooses ATL or LA, i think hendry has to re-sign nomar and here is why: his injury last season was a freak one that could happen to a lot of players. depsite being out 4 months, he came back and tore the cover off the ball. if you re-sign nomar, you can still get pierre, bat nomar second, lee third, ramirez fourth, etc. and play cedeno at SS or 2B depending on where you slot nomar. surely nomar would rather get an incentive-laden contract that will pay him well from a contender than going to PIT for a little more guaranteed $$. right?
  20. with LA offering 3 yrs/$40 mil, there is no way the cubs can compete financially. the only way he joins the cubs is if the idea of playing for a contender and knowing who his manager will be outweighs the extra $$ the dodgers are throwing at him. personally, i couldn't imagine signing a 3 yr deal with a team and not knowing who i'd be playing for everyday. guess we'll find out within 24 hrs. i just don't feel good about this; i see him chasing the dough.
  21. to back up my love of abreu, consider this from baseball analysts: Bobby Abreu led the majors in pitches per plate appearance (4.40) and percentage of pitches taken (66.6). This combination of stats means, by definition, that Abreu takes nearly three pitches per plate appearance. The only players within a half pitch of the leader are Jason Giambi (2.73), Craig Counsell (2.60), David Dellucci (2.59), and Nick Johnson (2.53). Not surprisingly, Abreu was second in the majors in BB (117), while Giambi was first in the AL in free passes (108). All walks, however, are not created equally. Abreu was seventh in the NL in stolen bases (31) and eighth in SB success (77.5%). Giambi, on the other hand, didn't attempt to steal a base all year for the first time ever. Nonetheless, his baserunning numbers were actually pretty good. Giambi went from first to third on a single 14 times, tied for sixth in the majors -- behind five players more known for their speed (Derek Jeter, 18; Carlos Beltran, 17; Juan Pierre and Luis Castillo, 16; and Chone Figgins, 15). Of this quintet, only Figgins (68%) and Beltran (61%) had a higher percentage of extra bases per opportunity than Giambi (47%). Abreu went from second to home (24) more often than anyone else in either league.
  22. if it's abreu, i can live with cedeno leaving and walker staying and sleep very well at night. if it's some end-of-his-career pitcher who may give us one good year, then no way in hell should this trade be made.
  23. ok, so if abreu is available why haven't we offered the world for him yet? i would gladly wave goodbye to pie, dopirak, greenberg, etc. for the chance to add a guy of bobby a's capability. with him hitting between lee and a-ram, i could play CF and leadoff and the cubs would win 94 games. if they could add pierre as well, lord have mercy on the NL!
