  1. Is this what I want to happen, or what I think will happen? Cause those are two very different things.
  2. I'm pretty scrawny. I'm 5'11", and if I push 150, it means I've put on weight. So I put bat boy. BUT - I can't hit, and I can't field, and I can't pitch to a slightly lesser degree. When I'm on, I've got a decent splitter, curve, and circle change, so if it were up to me, I'd be a starting pitcher. But, I'd probably be injured all the time. Which makes me pretty much the same as Mark Prior and Kerry Wood, right? ...right? damn.
  3. There are fans like that for every team. Cubs, Cards, Red Sox, Devil Rays... This past weekend I had 4 Cub fans tell me I was gay because I had a Cards hat on. CLASSY! I know that they were just %#$%*^s and would be that way no matter what team they root for. I know that some people will poke fun at this, but we tend to use the word "hate" too much. I don't hate the cubs. It really gets under my skin when the Cards lose to them, but I reserve my hate for other things in life. Like republicans. I'm kind of in the same boat here. Each team has classless, sucky fans. And I agree that hate might be a bit too strong a word. I don't hate the Cards. I don't really hate any team (except Duke basketball; that runs deeper, somehow, even though I'm a bigger Cubs fan than I am a Tar Heel fan). Although I do think Jim Edmonds is a very lame individual, he's really the only Cardinal who I feel that way about that I can think of. All this is not to say that I don't TOTALLY get into the rivalry. I LOVED the sweep, and I enjoy wins over the Cards more than wins over other teams, and I generally always root against the Cards, but that's as much because we're in the same division as anything. Oh. And I'm with you on Republicans.
  4. Another thing that irks me about people's complaints about Barrett is that most of them make it seem like he's the worst defensive catcher ever. And frankly, I don't think that's true. I mean, he's no defensive wizard, by any means, and he's certainly below average, but I've never heard any convincing argument to suggest that he's that terrible. I think the people who are griping so much about his D must be expecting defensive perfection from a very challenging position. Which would be fair, I guess, if the guy were a defensive specialist who couldn't hit. But he CAN hit, and very well at that. And I think that more than makes up for his defensive liabilities, which are generally overblown to begin with.
  5. I thought it was the players decision. It used to be but not anymore. You can thank players like Wade Boggs for that. Ok, well what should hat should he wear in the HOF? Braves, no question about it. Yeah. Even if he stays with the Cubs for the next two years, and we win a World Series each year, I think he'd still go in as a Brave.
  6. You bring up an interesting question. If Maddux wins a World Series this year with the Cubs, what cap should he go into the Hall with, a Cubs or Braves? The Cubs fan in me wants to see Maddux wear a Cubs hat but he did have most of his good years with the Braves. Almost without question, Maddux will enter as a Brave. He was the face of that franchise for years, and a 17-11, 3.75 ERA season (what we're hoping for now) would have been a disappointment for him during most of his years there.
  7. From the looks of gameday, that was one crazy double play.
  8. Prediction: 16 Ks for Maddux, no hitter, but he hits seven batters and walks 4 in one inning for the loss.
  9. I love the animated ball. Yeah, that's pretty awesome.
  10. Has anyone noticed that ESPN's gamecast, which used to suck horribly, has gotten much better? I actually prefer it to the MLB one, which takes forever to load.
  11. I won't give you the full commercial, depending on the type of tooth being treated, how infected it is and whether you went to a general dentist or an endodontist factors into it. Meanwhile, back to baseball :) Leave us evil dental propagandist! :D Nice first inning for Maddux. Pierre! Nows about the time you try for your first stolen base, Now let's not be too hasty.
  12. You realize you've just jinxed everything, don't you?
  13. Dusty does take a lot of abuse. And, to a certain extent, this is a bit of hard luck, because as TT pointed out earlier, when a manager does things right, it pretty much just means that they've made the obviously correct decision (i.e., didn't screw up), and so don't get much praise for it, but when a manager does something wrong, it's usually picked apart, because it tends to be a pretty obviously stupid thing to do. So it's generally a pretty thankless job. BUT - that's the same for every manager everywhere, and that doesn't change the fact that an extraordinary amount of Dusty's decisions are exceptionally, frustratingly, mind-bogglingly stupid. He can't construct a lineup to save his life. He gives terrible, terrible players FAR too much playing time, all the while allowing more promising and/or more capable players to rot on the bench. He's never met a pitcher that he can't misuse, reliever or starter (well, he's still working on Maddux, but that's about it). So while Dusty does bring some very good things to the table (some players - and I emphasize some - really like him, for example, and that is a good thing), he still deserves most of the criticism that he gets on this board.
  14. Oh. And I'm so on this BandWGN. Guzman or Hill might struggle just as much as Rusch, but at least there'd be something to be gained from it (development, evaluation, etc.), as opposed to just outright suckiness.
  15. I say we call up Guzman because of his 1.000 OPS so far in Iowa. We can bat him fifth when he pitches. So what if it's two at bats? Does Hill have a 1.000 OPS? So there.
  16. What a funny coincidence. I want one too.
  17. BP = Batting Practice Ah. Then it's definitely true. My apologies.
  18. I don't take any solace in that it could have been worse. And I dont blame you. Off with his head! (Rusch that is, obviously) I just like to search for the silver lining. I think the silver lining is that he has proven himself to be a pretty good BP pitcher. Um. This isn't true.
  19. For one thing, you guys are SERIOUSLY making me miss Chicago. Oh how I miss good public transportation! Stupid L.A. On the topic of other things I miss, Giordano's is probably my favorite Chicago-style pizza, although I'm a big Lou Malnati's fan, too. And I feel like I had something actually worthwhile to contribute to this thread, but I have since forgotten what it was. Sorry.
  20. I think the real point is that it's only been a week. While I'll give Dusty credit for not screwing up so far, and I will continue to do so until he does, I still think he'll make many of the same boneheaded mistakes this year as before.
  21. I definitely think they're not as good as in the past two years, but they're still pretty formidable. Despite their regression, they may still be the best team in the NL. They're certainly up there, anyway. Pujols, Rolen, and Edmonds is still a pretty scary middle of the order.
  22. Mmmmmmm....with a lemon. So good.
  23. Aaaaaaaand we've hit three pages. I hope this works.
  24. So I have to miss the first part of the game due to an audition - but even when I get back, I still won't be able to watch it, due to living in L.A. SO - to those of you who have MLB.tv, is it worth it? I'm thinking of getting it for the season, but I'd just like to know how well it works for you.
