  1. Not bad Agreed. I kind of want him to get the #5 slot at the beginning just so he can hopefully do well for enough games where the Cubs can drum up some real interest and net a sweet return when they trade him. GOOZ!
  2. Much of my problem has been fixed by simply downloading a plug in that allows me to play .wmv files in the vastly superior quicktime. So I can at least watch. However, the longer I keep the file open, the worse the feed gets. Weird.
  3. I just bought mlb.tv, and the feed is TERRIBLE. The audio is choppy, and the video pretty much just shows a still for maybe 20-30 seconds before moving to another still. I checked my bandwidth with the MLB.com site, and it seems like I've got plenty - there should be no reason why I wouldn't be able to get it. So I'm just wondering what you guys think - it's running on a Windows Media Player plugin, it looks like. I hate WMP, and haven't used it in forever - so I may go see if there's an upgrade or something that I need. Can anyone think of what might be causing my problems? What can I do to fix them? Lastly, how can I get a bigger picture? Thanks.
  4. First: I'm a complete UNC homer. But doesn't it seem to anyone else that the East is the most difficult bracket by far?
  5. Yeah, ditto.
  6. I would say you got very lucky with Bush - don't be surprised if he's better than most of your starters this year.
  7. Tribune I would SO much rather have Coats than Pagan. He's a better hitter, and he could play MI positions in a pinch.
  8. Which, if you ask me, is a very, very good thing. Selectivity is one of the most important aspects (if not the most important aspect) of stealing bases, just as it is in hitting.
  9. A New Era - I have proposed a trade to you which I think is pretty generous, and in fact is very much along the lines of what tkenm356 suggested. I proposed it because you said you're screwed on relief pitching and would be interested in trading in another thread - it's been up on the site for several days now, so I'm just not sure you've seen it. Check it out.
  10. Why no closers?
  11. Oops. Sorry. 10 team league. H2H.
  12. So I think I might have been the only one not to get my team rated - so I'm just bumping this because I'm actually trying to figure some things out, since I'm new at this. What do I need more of and how do I get it? What is expendable?
  13. Interesting. So you have pitchers take up all your bench spots? Is that because you can rotate them out to maximize couting stats day-to-day? Do you plan on just picking someone up if one of your position players underachieves or gets injured? ETA: These are earnest questions, not criticisms. I'm brand new to fantasy baseball, and am trying to learn something. Also, I'd be interested in knowing what this method is that you're using.
  14. Isn't that about his typical draft slot? I got him with the 101st pick in my draft, in the first pick of the 11th round.
  15. Pick number two in your draft was PUMPED. No doubt. But I figured the surprise factor was worth it. That's why I chose Cesar Izturis and Royce Clayton (I thought I'd start a run on SS) with my next two picks.
  16. So I know very little about fantasy sports, but I just participated in my first baseball draft, and I shocked the world and took Johan Santana with the first overall pick. My reasoning was that, while Pujols may contribute more, empirically speaking, to your team, Santana is so far ahead of the pack in pitching that the next best choice (probably Chris Carpenter) doesn't even compare. Additionally, you have fewer pitching spots, so bang for your buck is more important in pitching than in hitting, as you can afford to spread the production around the lineup moreso than you can around your pitchers. Just my opinion.
  17. By the way, guys, I am totally up for some crazy trading. I'm 1908fantasychampions, and I could definitely help some people out with pitching - or a speedy, high-SB outfielder. Anybody I've got is available for the right price. Just let me know.
  18. I just participated in my first ever fantasy-anything draft (in the league for new players), and I'm not totally happy with my team (particularly my outfield), but it's good enough that I should be at least competitive. Here it is: C Brian McCann 1B Mark Teixiera 2B Robinson Cano 3B Chipper Jones SS Derek Jeter OF Jason Bay OF Magglio Ordonez OF Corey Patterson Util Jim Thome BN Mike Cameron BN Scott Podsednik BN Josh Barfield BN Edwin Encarnacion BN Jason Varitek SP Johan Santana SP Jered Weaver RP Mariano Rivera RP Chris Ray P Ervin Santana P Barry Zito P Dave Bush BN Jose Valverde I think I'm pretty good on SB, but I don't have a lot of HR/RBI power. My pitching is very good, I think. What could I have done better?[/b]
  19. Man I love baseball. This is the point in the season when we can be optimistic.
  20. Murton hitting second!!! OMG!!!!! Sweet! Man, things are going too good this Spring. Let's not get too excited. Murton might only be playing, and in the two hole, because we're facing a lefty. Which is a major bummer.
  21. I'm basically in the same boat as O_O and GRCubsFan: I pretty much just use the newer statistics. However, my knowledge of how the trickier ones are calculated and used is sketchy in many cases (VORP, WARP, WARP3, etc.). For batters, I like a standard AVG/OBP/SLG line - I think OPS is overly used, and an inaccurate representation of a players' worth, as SLG is overrepresented in the overall stat (although OPS+ is very useful). I tend not to use statistics that I'm not sure of how they work, like EqA, VORP, WARP, WARP3, and so on, but when someone else uses them, I generally trust that they know what they're talking about - I just don't make use of them in my arguments. For pitchers, I like all these (which have been mentioned before): ERA (sort of), ERA+, WHIP (sort of), H/9, BB/9, K/9, HR/9, K/BB, GB%, FB%, LD%. However, I'm also a big fan of OBP against and SLG against - I figure if they're good enough for batters, then they're good enough for pitchers. SLG against is particularly useful, because outside of HR/9, there's really no other stat that deals with how many XBH's a pitcher gives up, and that's pretty important.
  22. I think the idea is that, with increased emphasis on 100 mph heat comes decreased emphasis on control, and a guy might be drafted or called up to the majors primarily on the basis of his fastball, without concern for his inability to avoid hitting batters.
  23. I'm gonna disagree in turn. Stats don't threaten anybody's enjoyment of the game. If people don't want to know about them, they don't have to; they can choose not to pay them any mind. Introducing them, however, certainly adds to the enjoyment of many, as it broadens the overall scope of baseball as a whole, thus attracting more people and appealling to a wider spectrum of types of enjoyment.
