  1. Times like this when I wished the Cubs had a $600 million payroll. Step 1: re-sign Z Step 2: sign ARod after he opts out this offseason Step 3: sign Santana after '08. At best, I think one of these will happen, and it will be re-signing Zambrano.
  2. Reading this makes me smile - Lou isn't perfect, but at least he's more or less avoiding the worst managerial error he could make. Namely, destroying a pitcher's arm.
  3. I feel the same way. Except the offense as it is right now, should be much more powerful then it is. If the bloop singles and clutch hits stop falling, I would expect the power numbers to sharply rise. We have only hit 7 HRs this month, by far the lowest in baseball. The next lowest is the Nationals with 12. We have 5 players on this roster who have hit 27 HRs or more in a season, and 4 that have hit 34 or more in a season, and right now only 1 player is on pace for even 30 (Aramis) Yeah - I think we'll stop getting so lucky with seeing eye singles, to a degree, but we're also not going to be this awful at hitting homers for the rest of the season. I imagine our chances of making the playoffs - via division or wildcard - are better than 50%, but not by much.
  4. I have him on my team, and I love him - he's been one of my most consistent producers. That said, he's nowhere near Chase Utley level. As for him vs. Carlos Guillen, I feel you can't really go wrong - without looking too closely at it, though, I can't say for sure which one I'd go for.
  5. suprised to see lee that high. where did you get that list? Lee? Hell, take a look at Tulo  i think he had two times this season where he hit a go ahead or game tying home run in the 9th inning only to have his team blow it. looking at his gamelog, he had a stretch of 3 games where he hit a game-tying 2-R HR in the 9th, game-tying 3-R HR in the 9th (Cubs), and a go-ahead solo HR in the 11th, only to have his team lose all three games. Forgive my ignorance - what's WPA?
  6. - AL Central (you know, the best division in baseball in the league with the DH) - NL Central, probably the worst division in baseball
  7. I can't watch (stupid mlb.tv blackouts) - does Hill look like he's struggling? I wish he wouldn't, cause I think he's awesome.
  8. I'd be all about this. My only concern is that it doesn't really fill any holes - it just provides us with another quality bench bat to rotate in and out of the lineup.
  9. Fixed. Okay. While I agree that these recent callups are logical, and aren't necessarily doom-spelling for Murton or Cedeno, I get a little tired of this. Murton is a totally fine left fielder. He's right about average, by the most reasonable metrics we've got. Right field is another story, but he's no worse - and probably better - than Floyd or Ward out there.
  10. Wow, I didn't think my distaste for Bonds could really get any worse.
  11. You know, if Jeter wasn't essentially canonized by the baseball media, I'd probably like him. As it is, I can't stand him.
  12. "I'd rather be rich than stupid." -Jack Handy Somehow I just feel it's an appropriate quotation.
  13. Len seriously needs a Home-run call. why? I second the notion that he doesn't need a home run call. I think he does a fine job as it is, and if he artificially imposes some hokey "signature" call, it'll just seem fake and contrived.
  14. You know things have gotten bad when Brad Ausmus is considered an upgrade.
  15. This same thing stood out to me as being very odd. Also, I REALLY like winning.
  16. Whoa - deep, dude.
  17. No, it's okay. You can say bogus. It's a pretty stupid stat.
  18. I thought this was a family board.
  19. So I came home just in time to catch the ninth, with the Cubs leading 8-3. I had no idea what I was in for. That was amazing.
  20. [nerd]4 to 1 odds is not the same as 1 in 4. A 25% chance would be 3 to 1 odds.[/nerd]
  21. It's poking fun at Starbucks. I love the "drink responsibly" line under the Venti bottle of beer. nice mixed messages I'm also a fan of the Bud Lite slogan, "Always worth it." If that's not the wrong message when it comes to beer, I don't know what is.
