  1. poor guy, just wants to sign big checks but the bean counters are telling him he can't
  2. the 2-3 arrow is freaking me out a little bit, as if that's indicative of a concerted type of ordering there
  3. he had a 2.37 xFIP after the break; i'm in hell
  4. lol now who's gonna be the first to demand Soto
  5. and their offensive WAR was 150% that of the #2 offense in the league
  6. idk...the heyman tweet makes it seem like the door might at least be somewhat open (he mentioned him for a reason) if the nationals don't get donaldson. it also is almost literally saying nothing, like most of his tweets, so whatever. i wouldn't call it a giant hole, tho. bryant makes them better the next two years. then they're stuck with worse-hitter-than-Albert-Almora in CF barring other major moves
  7. They've been in charge more than 5 years. Their actual average is 84-win baseball. Which, given their financial advantages, I think a C+ is plenty generous. So the Astros get a C+ this decade as well? Their losing was even more horrendous. I can take rebuids if they give 5 year stretches like the most recent, the problem is they should not need to rebuild this core already. they're set up to be an elite team for the foreseeable future, and we're now looking down the barrel at another rebuild
  8. there's really no reason to believe they're going to create a giant hole at one position to address another, i'm very confident in saying Robles simply isn't available here
  9. they're unreluctantly parting ways with a HOF talent in his prime with designs on replacing the production with a package of spare parts
  10. just reminiscing about a familiar memory Both Chicago general manager Larry Himes and Maddux's agent, Scott Boras, accused the other of failing to negotiate in good faith. The Cubs eventually decided to pursue other free agents, including José Guzmán, Dan Plesac, and Candy Maldonado. After seven seasons in Chicago, Maddux signed a five-year, $28 million deal with the Atlanta Braves.
  11. love to shout from the rooftops that your former MVP is a toxic asset of sorts and you're desperate to be rid of him, master negotiation ploy
  12. How is this even possible? It is not possible, it is very wrong. 2017: 11 2018: 10 2019: 11 and obviously some overlap so that it's considerably less than the 32 there (also don't open the 2018 spoiler)
  13. i don't know any of these names lol
  14. This would at least be interesting as a type of challenge trade. Turner at 2B putting up a .350 wOBA and above average defense is about a 4.5 win player(or basically Ozzie Albies), and he fixes some current roster holes. And with Kieboom about ready you could at least squint and see the justification for it from Washington's perspective. i would think they'd be much more inclined to give up Kieboom
  15. Trading good players and continuing to compete are not mutually exclusive ideas. That's doubly true in the case of someone like Contreras whose exact level of contributions are more debatable than say an outfielder. in these circumstances, they basically are though like if you trade Bryant for some hot prospects and use the savings toward Rendon or whatever, sure, but we're just inevitably setting sail 5 wins in hopes that one day we'll get some return as Cristian Pache develops into a nice, affordably cheap, Chris B. Young
  16. -3 years of outright forfeit -4 years of success -4+ years of rebuilding, roster restoration -?? WS is undeniably great but we also need to accept that ownership is content to ride that goodwill as far as possible
  17. Jesus Christ
  18. they found Captain Winky
  19. the wise man bowed his head solemnly and spoke: "theres actually zero difference between good & bad catchers. you imbecile. you horsefeathering moron"
  20. those steamer projections are a total trainwreck though; half of the top 10 there might not even be starters meanwhile reigning 2-time all-star is squarely backup status, just a complete mess
  21. that's awful kind. that's coachable and really wildly variable, hard to quantify; his offensive output and upside isn't i don't know how you can uncritically accept there's like a 8 win difference in framing between Contreras and Grandal last 3 years, which is what this all seems to stem from
  22. you know what our offense has gotten to be just too good, let's immediately correct that by getting rid of the guy leading his position in wOBA the last 3 years
  23. he's top 5 in PA during that timeframe alright i can just assume he said or did something unforgivable that i completely missed to see such a strange overwhelming desperation to cast him off
  24. yeah a lower total because Contreras hit the DL and we relied on bad catchers we assumed would easily replace his production but let's fix a hard cap on what we'll get at the catcher position by starting Jason Castro instead of a 27yo allstar who makes $4m and was our 3rd best bat , comfortable that marginal talents like Daniel Descalso or your catcher filler never collapse and crater the offense
  25. this offseason is shaping up to be a lot of fun "hm we weren't quite able to make the playoffs, so what do we need to do? ok first, let's get a lot worse at the catcher position..."
