  1. saying "sign Puig instead of Soler" is about as constructive as saying something like "draft Mike Trout" i really, really wanted Liriano though on a 3+ year term
  2. like it or not, their job was to rebuild an entire organization, and this is what they inherited: http://itsaboutthemoney.net/archives/2013/08/12/the-all-homegrown-mlb/ "these Cubs would be in the running for the first pick of the draft. This makes Theo Epstein’s slash-and-burn rebuild seem all the more necessary." under the budget restraints that were imposed, contending early was never a realistic option, and if you choose to remain willfully ignorant of that i guess that's your prerogative
  3. Screw that. The specifics have been thrown out thousands of times. Don't come with this nonsensical "there is nothing they can do about their situation" rhetoric. It's their job to make it happen. They are the highly compensated super group already 2 years into their tenure. If they can't figure out a way to make the team competitive 3 seasons in they really did a poor job. but, if they had spent a significant sum of money enough to allow contention, they'd be considered a success at their jobs; that's a hilariously simple way of casting judgment i guess Ned Colletti is finally great at his job, now
  4. It might be, but that would have to only be by choice. Because it could open next year if they wanted to try and open it. How do you think they should do that? Sign Ellsbury and Tanaka. Put together a solid bullpen out of the guys we have and maybe one additional piece if there's one out there. Could easily compete in 2014. Reinforcements start coming in the form of Baez and maybe Alcantara or Bryant late next season and they go from there. so what is that, $175M in commitments?
  5. i do wonder how much Granderson's price has gone down; he'd immediately step in and be our best power hitter, and might not be able to command a long term
  6. fwiw, BA rated him as the SL's best defensive 3B about a week ago
  7. oddly enough, Villanueva's actually improved each year (119 wRC+ in high-A, 125 wRC+ in AA) since his 2011 season (116 wRC+ in A) that had him as a BA top-100 prospect
  8. Hits his SL leading 35th double. plus defense, plus makeup, leading the league in doubles and extra base hits at age 22. who is with me on the bandwagon?!? i would be but kyle told me he'll OPS .600 in the majors
  9. and the doubles just keep piling up for Villanueva
  10. 3 lineouts, what a stupid inning that was
  11. why is Sveum convinced Rusin can't go beyond 6 IP / 90 pitches?
  12. here's another replay of a guy getting smoked in the balls!
  13. and Castillo just ruined Hanigan's day there
  14. a former top-25 prospect! (a few spots behind Matt Clement)
  15. That will be difficult with 3 quality long term pieces on the major league team and nothing in the farm system. Jose Dariel Abreu?

  18. just move him to 2B when Baez comes up and let him worry more about hitting again i don't trade (or package) him unless Stanton or Price are coming back

  20. http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/the-gms-office/post?id=7439 Uh....yes please at that price. using FGs 20-80 Sabr Scale, that puts him in the neighborhood of: .313/.375?/.555, +1.7 UZR, -3 BSR which is a 4-win 1B; either the execs/scouts are being too kind with those grades, or bidding is going to greatly dwarf 6/54
  21. "oh no Iglesias you didn't just do that" "ladies & gentlemen, that just happened" http://wapc.mlb.com/play/?content_id=29653669
  22. either way, Starlin can thank Rizzo for that one
  23. i feel a little more at peace with the universe now than after truffle's bullshit win
  24. Castillo did a good job receiving that strike 3 to Votto, where earlier in the season he would have swatted at it like an idiot; i'm starting to warm up to him more
