  1. BA's best tools AAA (PCL) Best Defensive 3B: Mike Olt AA (SL) Best Control: Kyle Hendricks Best Defensive 3B: Christian Villanueva Best Infield Arm: Arismendy Alcantara Best Outfield Arm: Rubi Silva A+ (FSL) Best Infield Arm: Javier Baez
  2. for the whole season, it's not quite that pronounced vs. LHP: .340/.410/.641, 11% BB, 29% K vs. RHP: .244/.306/.521, 5.5% BB, 24.6% K for his milb career he has a .991/.845 OPS split, but surprisingly also with the higher K rate vs. lefties
  3. I find the bit about one of the brokers being from Alabama to be a bit humorous. JFF should have been wary of anyone with nefarious attentions hailing from Alabama. Johnny Foot [expletive]?
  4. There's a bunch of interesting scenarios here: http://northsidebaseball.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=60154 There's one in the middle of page 2 of the thread that I really like. Do you mean mine? Because that would've ended up a complete disaster, not to mention it wasn't possible due to reasons we weren't privy to at the time. Really though, the specifics is what I'm after. How could they have done better by "going for it" last year? these are always fun to revisit- here's mine pluses: Headley! Liriano! DeJesus! minuses: Sizemore (oof), the Prince Fielder bidding woulda been a good BP, though

  6. Well, if you were going for it, I doubt you'd trade your best reliever for young players. And we probably wouldn't have traded our best young pitcher for a 1B who needed at least half a year at AAA. ...in which we OVERHAULED HIS SWING don't get pissy at me because you're doing a poor job of explaining your point, or not even making a point Hendry holdovers combined for next to nothing in terms of tangible production, if you want me to dig through the Feldman thread for totals i will; but it would have involved some incredible delusion and likely some dangerous, reckless spending to pretend we had a chance to do much of anything last year...framing it as 'willful punting of a season' is too obtuse/intellectually dishonest an argument to even entertain
  7. The abandonment of 2012 also put them in a hole they tried but failed to dig out of in 2013, and we may yet see more of those consequences in 2014 and 2015. I'm far from convinced that what we gained in an expedited farm system will make up for the seasons we lost. We've locked in the downside and are praying for enough upside to cover it. I think part of it will depend on how Kris Bryant turns out. Considering he's essentially the only thing we gained out of punting 2012, I'll say it's a pretty substantial part. Anthony Rizzo, Travis Wood, Luis Valbuena, Jeff Samardzija, Arodys Vizcaino, Kyle Hendricks, Christian Villanueva
  8. why aren't we a decent team? because we didn't sign Prince Fielder
  9. it's so cute that you still seem to think Hendry left a lot of useful pieces to build off 2013 fWAR Shark: 2.3 Castillo: 1.7 Garza: 1.5 Soriano: 1.0 Cashner: 0.8 LeMahieu: 0.6 Russell: 0.5 Barney: 0.5 Lake: 0.5 Soto: 0.3 Castro: -0.4 Marmol: -0.8 Colvin: -1.1 DeWitt: AAA Vitters: AAA B Jackson: AA Wells: retired so, a little over 7 WAR from the best 13 guys remaining in the league yeah, why the [expletive] aren't we winning championships yet, THEO??
  10. eh, still beats a plate of jelly
  11. And Urban Meyer pays them all to go to UF that's Urban "Long Arm of the Law" Meyer, to you
  12. did Hernandez murder the guy on the ground too
  13. how far along is construction on the dome we were going to build with whatever it costs for a utility infielder?
  14. Patterson's career would have been considered a smashing success had he been a prospect who was never even top-80 on lists yes, this is why we were so happy about the Theo hire, not because he was going to sign a fuckton of big-ticket FAs
  15. i ignored it because it wasn't an analogous situation, whatsoever; they had Anderson at #19 as the only top-80 guy you have a ridiculous definition of "panned out" if an elite reliever, or top-5 CY finisher don't qualify so sure, i agree with you- our top guys probably won't all be perennial all-stars; thanks for that revelation
  16. I really like Lockgart, but Boise to Iowa? It's just a short term move to fill the vacant Iowa spot. They'll get an adequate replacement and send Lockhart back to Boise. fyi, Lockhart's just a month younger than Xander Bogaerts (also in AAA), which just shows how freakish that guy is
  17. he doesn't really have very pronounced splits (OPS: .810 vs. LHP, .814 vs. RHP last 3 MiLB seasons)
  18. Red Sox Top-100 Prospects 2008: Clay Buchholz, Jacoby Ellsbury, Lars Anderson, Justin Masterson, Jed Lowrie, Michael Bowden, Ryan Kalish 2007: Daisuke Matsuzaka, Jacoby Ellsbury, Clay Buchholz, Daniel Bard, Michael Bowden 2006: Jon Lester, Jonathan Papelbon, Craig Hansen, Dustin Pedroia
  19. he also dropped the pen & spun around before signing it
  20. it's particularly unconscionable of them to use his actions to vilify him
  21. http://tatertrottracker.com/ David Ortiz should be benched all the time
  22. http://www.fangraphs.com/depthcharts.aspx?position=Standings top-6 to top-14 seems like the range
  23. we had a .384 wOBA today and they had a .325 wOBA UN-CLUTCH
  24. yup, that was probably the highlight of the season
