  4. McKinney over Eloy right now (Edwards, too)
  5. Bryant RF, Baez 2B, Russel 3B, Alcantara CF. Alcantara CF, Russell 3B, Rizzo 1B, Bryant RF, Castro SS, Soler LF, Baez 2B, Castillo C This could conceivably happen by this time next year. Like for real. Not even best case scenario projections. [expletive] yeah! and with quality depth like Valbuena, Ruggiano, Lake

  7. this post kind of proves my point, as i haven't mentioned any of the bolded in this argument, at all
  8. well, more specifically, getting only 1 or 2 starters on offense and essentially zero pitching out of your farm system is the equivalent of having no farm system at all
  9. he was highly thought of, mostly because he touched 100, but we didn't do him a lot of favors in his development i don't know if you recall the furor here when he was getting jerked around between starting & relieving (along with Jay Jackson) but lo & behold he gets a shoulder injury (6 months later) and we basically traded him as damaged goods
  10. at the minor league level, it is simply just not possible to make a valid argument that the FO inherited a remotely viable farm system; i'd make the educated guess we've received less than 5 wins total out of that group to this point Shark was a 26 year old reliever with a replacement-level performance to that point in his career, but if you want to argue he was an elite asset, continue to do so, and prove further how unwilling you're going to be to think objectively Cashner's nearly 28 and has amassed a total of 3.5 fWAR; perhaps you'll tell me next what fantastic trade assets Larry Anderson and Heathcliff Slocumb were?
  11. some highlights of the '12 red sox list: xander bogaerts matt barnes will middlebrooks? ryan lavarnway? garin cecchini blake swihart henry owens jackie bradley jr brandon workman jose iglesias felix doubront junichi tazawa
  12. well i'm comparing them to other teams, and not to a hypothetical situation where we waived our right to make draft selections I don't think you are. some highlights of his '12 Cardinals list: shelby miller carlos martinez kolten wong oscar taveras lance lynn trevor rosenthal matt adams matt carpenter joe kelly seth maness
  13. well i'm comparing them to other teams, and not to a hypothetical situation where we waived our right to make draft selections i welcome you to total the pitcher fWAR we've received from that group, and i'd be surprised to see if it's replacement level (i'm taking the under)
  14. a) Don't do that. MLB.com before Callis arrived is worse than just a random generator spitting out minor leaguers' names. b) Ignoring the 2011 draft is kinda dumb. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2012/1/6/2688854/chicago-cubs-top-20-prospects-for-2012 -an average-ish starting C -a replacement level OF -a current top-20 prospect and maybe 2-3 other guys with any chance of contributing at the end of the roster so, basically: http://www.bubblews.com/assets/images/news/1765409383_1383932685.jpg
  15. this Astros player could probably use a better nickname:
  16. he's MLB-ready today, which should put a huge premium on his prospect status, but that never seems to be valued highly enough i think too often people make the assumption players will just continue their production all the way up the ladder and repeat their successes, but you get pitchers washing out with injuries, players like Maikel Franco or Raul Mondesi falling on their faces even to the point about ceiling, isn't his ceiling in the neighborhood of Reyes / Rollins offensive output? or maybe more realistically still, a Ray Durham type of career? i guess i still value something like that more than some others would who get so caught up in HRs or a singular skill
  17. He was probably talking alphabetically
  18. i still like him, but i hate using him in that spot
  19. Speaking of BJax, why does he get less playing time in the OF than Vitters? Is he really that much less of a "prospect" than Vitters at this point? I don't have the hitting #'s but when you see them, they are not pretty. Other than last year, BJax has out OPSed Vitters at every level. Actually, 2012 too, but not by much. Plus, he's a better defender than Vitters. Vitters doesn't have the incredibly damning contact issues. If he could actually pay a position, I think he'd still be a prospect. Vitters' contact rate isn't really much better than Jackson's
  20. i think i will probably forever dislike that guy now
  21. 20 shots to 3 seems like a problem
  22. i don't think i have any idea what their keeper looks like
