  1. guess we lucked into a good year to rebuild
  2. funny you should mention that- Roethlisberger is a great comparable for Mettenberger
  3. to be fair, weren't there been rumblings he played with hip pointer / broken hand during that timeframe
  4. Ryan Braun, Alex Gordon, Alfonso Soriano in their first exposure to LF didn't fare much differently than in their subsequent seasons (Braun actually got substantially worse in years 2 & 3 but that could just be sample-size stuff making him seem more competent than he was in year 1 there doesn't seem to be much of a learning curve at all, moving to LF
  5. PFF grades
  6. I think this is the part where Sneaky comes in with a bunch of metrics showing how Cutler isn't close to Stafford. eh, the QB stat i place the most value in just ranks Stafford 13th (min. 12 G) this year i'd mention Cutler's ranking, but that would probably be construed as trolling
  7. post-week 14:
  8. Jake Renshaw. I forgot one half of the legendary Cherry Pie was in that deal Scott Moore, who i see was 23 and OPSing .900 at Iowa
  9. Hendry gave up actual players of worth for a guy who had 5.59 FIP, 5.92 xFIP and 2.88 K/9
  10. this is a pretty emphatic no he's earning $15m more than Fitzpatrick, who can easily be argued has outproduced him...without the benefit of hindsight, try cutting $13m in players off the Texans and then look at their roster with Cutler saying Cutler's a top-20 QB and it's not his fault the defense is so bad misses a huge component of the problem; similarly productive QBs like Orton, Fitzpatrick, Hill usually don't take up much cap space at all and you're left with so much more capability to fill in holes
  11. this year's Manny Corpas, Eduardo Sanchez, Hong-Chih Kuo

  13. i'm perfectly fine with this, but the bench might be too optimistic you already factored in Castillo, so you're left with: Tommy La Stella Chris Coghlan Justin Ruggiano Ryan Sweeney i actually like TLS more than most, but Coghlan, Ruggiano, Sweeney are basically replacement level; i think you've almost got to be happy to break even with this group, maybe top out at 1 WAR if you think Maddon works platoon magic or whatever
  14. i trust Brian Cook over everyone he explains his reasoning, though; saying it can reasonably be inferred that the complete lack of activity on our end so far speaks volumes that we haven't been told 'no' by Harbaugh yet
  15. Lions tried to do the same thing, too (sigh)
  16. our guards are really good, but yeah, that's it...hopefully Beilein can paper over the frontcourt holes by the time the meat of B1G schedule rolls around it's a tall order, though
  17. we're not quite yet assured of the single-season team strikeout record, and he would really help out there
  18. he progressed from "probably swinging with eyes closed" to "probably squinting"
  19. Iowa contact rate April: 56% May: 58% June: 68% July: 66% August: 67% that might seem like encouraging improvements, but it's really just a whole lot of evidence that he's going to swing and miss 1/3 of the time even in very favorable circumstances scouts and people like Keith Law gush over his bat speed, but who the [expletive] cares, if he's generating it by just rapidly twisting every part of his body as violently as possible with minimal regard for actually being able to hit the ball
