  1. This is an absurd argument. Sammy had arguably one of the greatest seasons in MLB history in 1998. He absolutely carried the Cubs...thats not just an assumption, the numbers bear it out. The case you are making is ridiculous.
  2. I'm not sure I'd trade Aramis for Abreu straight up, let alone throwing in Marshall, Jones, and cash. Abreu is 32, has seemingly lost his power stroke (8 homers this season), and has probably peaked. Aramis is 28 and probably has not yet peaked and plays a position that I think is more difficult to replace (I don't think Koskie is a good option there).
  3. So then you can have two offensively challenged players on the court at the same time? I realize that Oden isn't as bad as Wallace but he's been built up much more for his defensive ability than offensive. Oden definately needs to put in a ton of work in that part of his game. Not saying that Oden can't play offense and will never be good offensively, but he does need to show a huge improvement to be a star in the NBA. How much have you seen Oden play? The way you are talking, I'm assuming you've scouted him pretty extensively.
  4. Oden recently had surgery on his wrist and his rehab could take up to 6 months. I'm not 100% sure anymore that he will be in the draft pool in 2007. He may not even begin playing until January, and he may not be full strength until February or March. I still think he goes pro, but the odds on that aren't as strong as I thought a month ago. Oden rehab may take 6 months
  5. Does anyone remember when MANY Cubs fans here and at cubs.com were just dying to get this guy? Maybe this is a case where Hendry actually was more wise than he's given credit for...if people insist that we had a shot at him (despite reports), then lets give management credit for passing on him.
  6. A guy in my league really wants Abreu from me, and I am reluctant to let go of him. In the OF I currently have Abreu, Miguel Cabrera (I have him playing 3b however), Dunn, Bonds, JD Drew, Chad Tracy, and Jose Guillen. My weakspots would probably be 2B (Polanco) and RP (F. Cordero and Duchscherer). He has 1B/2B Chase Utley, OF Carlos Beltran, OF Jason Bay, OF Manny Ramirez, UTIL Travis Hafner, RP Billy Wagner, RP Brad Lidge, and RP BJ Ryan. His best SP is Mike Mussina, so his SP is pretty weak. What do you see as a deal that makes sense for me?
  7. Kurt Thomas, Brent Barry, Stephon Marbury, Lorenzen Wright, Erick Dampier, Austin Croshere, Michael Olowokandi, Jason Williams, Bonzi Wells, Lamar Odom, Andre Miller, Corey Maggette, Darius Miles, Kwame Brown, Tyson Chandler, Eddie Curry I´d say all of those count as ¨regular¨NBA players...all played important roles for their team at some time or another (and many still do). Now, if you want to talk about ¨star¨players, thats a different story.
  8. I agree too - though NC didn't play any better, they were just ridiculously talented. Had Illinois not lost their composure and run their offense, they should have won that game. I would have to say that the four teams today were far better than those yesterday. That UCLA win was an awful awful game. Plus, how did a 1 seed end up playing a road game in the elite eight? UCLA never should have been in that region. If that's the case, Gonzaga shouldn't have been in Oakland either. Forget about Gonzaga for a second...do you think it was fair for #1 Memphis to have to play #2 UCLA in California? I'm not saying UCLA is or isn't a better team, but a virtual home court advantage certainly didn't hurt.
  9. Group A- Manny Ramirez Group B- Adam Dunn, Albert Pujols Group C- Lance Berkman, Carlos Delgado, Alfonso Soriano Group D- Chipper Jones, Todd Helton, Adrian Beltre, Jose Guillen WILDCARD: Jim Thome
  10. There's no way in the world Nova beats LSU by 20, and I doubt UConn would either. In my opinion, LSU has looked like the best team in the tourney this year. Nova won't be able to stop LSU's bigs, and UConn hasn't looked special in this tourney...I think LSU provides an answer to UConn's front court strength and would give UConn all they could handle and more.
  11. I thought that a foul could've been called on Raivio when he just leaped on top of the pile. If there's a travel called or a reach called, the ball is dead and Raivio's leap cannot be called as anything. However, I agree, if there was really no reach or travel then Raivio committed a foul.
  12. I don't think you can call a travel when the guy slides like that, especially at that point in the game. I don't remember a reach in on Raivio, but that whole thing was madness. The reach was more obvious than the slide...his entire arm came across Raivio's mid-section. Refs may not call a travel on a play like that, but you can bet when/if that happens to my team this season the officials will hear about it, 5 seconds to go or not. I hate the mentality of "letting them play" and "refs shouldn't decide games" when thats not the way it is for 39 minutes and 45 seconds. A foul is a foul, a travel is a travel, 5 seconds into the game or with 5 seconds left. That's just my humble opinion, and I know I'm in the minority here.
  13. Anyone else think the refs missed two calls at the end that hurt Gonzaga? UCLA clearly reached-in on Raivio driving with seconds left. Then the UCLA player dives on the ball, slides across the floor, and no travel is called. I think the Zags got screwed pretty bad in the last five seconds. (DISCLAIMER: I could care less about either team, just my opinion on two bad calls in a game of questionable calls.) That said, what great finishes in both late games tonight!
  14. For the love of God, please nothing crazy here Hoosiers.
  15. Winthrop or Wichita State...one of the two will knock out Tennessee in round one or two.
  16. I'm not sure I agree with all of your analysis. No doubt that Young is a stud and if we're talking about an exchange of Lidge for Young, its a no brainer. However, I'm definitely not convinced that Delgado is a downgrade from Young nor Garcia an upgrade from Mulder. Delgado put up better RBIs, BA, OBP and hits last season, and will probably close the gap in runs scored. I agree that Dunn is a very good young player, but Delgado is a better fantasy option. He also has a much better set of players in front of him this season than Dunn. Mulder and Garcia are a wash in my eyes...Mulder gives you a better era and more wins, Garcia offers a better whip and more k's. All in all, I'd still agree that its a good deal because Young is so much better than Lidge. However, I think Dunn and Mulder arguably = Delgado and Garcia.
  17. These are the (better) current available options at 2B: Ray Durham Bill Mueller Craig Counsell Orlando Hudson Rob Mackowiak Mark Grudzielanek Todd Walker Any of those guys do anything for you fantasy-wise?
  18. Offered him Maddux and Mike Sweeney for Teixiera. Lol.
  19. C- Benji Molina 1B- Todd Helton 2B- Bill Hall SS- Miguel Tejada 3B- Aramis Ramirez OF- Bobby Abreu OF- Adam Dunn OF- Barry Bonds Util- Brian Giles Bench- Mike Piazza Bench- Mike Sweeney Bench- Magglio Ordonez SP- Tim Hudson SP- Mark Mulder SP- Greg Maddux SP- CC Sabathia SP- Kevin Millwood SP- Brandon Webb SP- Javier Vasquez RP- Todd Jones RP- Bobby Howry I definitely think I've got some big risks on this team that will either kill me or put me in a great position---Bonds, Maggs, Piazza could all be steals if truly healthy and playing in 130+ games. Relief pitching is weak...hoping to find a closer on the wire after the first month or so. What do you think? Where can I upgrade? Who should I cut immediately? Who do you think is a sleeper on this team? Likes? Dislikes? Etc. Thanks!
  20. I have been offered Mark Teixiera, Reggie Sanders, and Chris Reitsma for Adam Dunn, Bobby Abreu, and Greg Maddux. Thought all you fellow roto-ers would get a kick out of that.
  21. It looks like that may be what I have to do. I was hoping to go before june (i.e while school is still in) on a weekend. Because I know the female parental unit wont let me take off school for the cubs. (she really needs to get her prioritys straight). Looks like I may be waiting till june for my bleacher experiance. Maybe i'll buy some nosebleed seats for soemtime in april/may. Umm, just skip school. Sure your mom might find out, but c'mon, wouldn't it be worth it once in your life?
  22. The trade has been made. Imagine a team with a murderer's row of Beltran-Helton-Cabrera-Abreu-Wright! Should be a great fantasy season for me in this league, barring major injuries.
  23. 12- Abreu 13- Wright 36- Helton 37- Beltran 60- Sheets 61- Beckett 84- Giles (!) 85- Mulder 108- Hudson (!) 109- Tracy 132- Millwood 133- T. Jones 156- Dempster 157- Posada 180- Belliard 181- C. Guillen 204- Mussina 205- Casey 228- Loaiza 229- Dellucci 252- Kotsay
  24. I am Team A. I would be substituting Cabrera in the OF for Giles, who I'd be losing. My outfield would then be Cabrera, Abreu, and Carlos Beltran. JD Drew would compete with Chad Tracy and David Delucci to be the Utility hitter in the lineup. (Why not play Cabrera at 3rd? I have David Wright at 3rd already...not a bad problem to have!) Loretta replaces Belliard (yes Ron, not Rafael lol). I have #1 waiver priority and Jose Vidro was just cut...would you drop Loretta for him, or would you drop a pitcher like Loaiza? Or, do you just not pick up the injury-riddled Vidro? I'd lose Mussina, but I've got Mulder, Hudson, Sheets, Beckett, Millwood, and Loaiza as my other starters. Given that information, is it a good deal for me?
