  1. I can't wait to read all the posts later about how "the Georgia-Auburn game just goes to show you how deep and tough the SEC is." The truth is, Auburn is tremendously overrated and Georgia sucks. This is not indicative of how deep the SEC is, but rather, how overrated some of the top teams in the league are.
  2. The computer rankings have ND at #5. Yet, the ridiculous polls continue to keep us down at the #10 range. I think the computer rankings have it about right: 1. Michigan 2. OSU 3. Cal 4. Florida 5. Notre Dame 6. USC 7. Auburn 8. Rutgers 9. Louisville 10. Tennessee 11. Boise State 12. Texas
  3. The computer rankings have ND at #5. Yet, the ridiculous polls continue to keep us down at the #10 range. I think the computer rankings have it about right: 1. Michigan 2. OSU 3. Cal 4. Florida 5. Notre Dame 6. USC 7. Auburn 8. Rutgers 9. Louisville 10. Tennessee 11. Boise State 12. Texas (Copying this to the new week's thread in case most discussion has moved there!)
  4. If Rutgers beats WVU and Louisville (and runs the table), do they deserve to play for the national title if OSU is the only other remaining undefeated team? Based on Cuse's line of thought, they would have to play for it all. I can't imagine anyone else on this board feels that way though. A Rutgers-OSU title game? Yuck.
  5. Personally, I was very impressed with the pressure UCLA put on Quinn today. While I think we COULD beat USC, right now we are not playing near well enough to hang with them. That said, ndistops is bigging pretty smug, but lets not act like week in week out that aren't many comments that bash Notre Dame. I don't approve of his attitude, but every university has smug fans and people that hate them.
  6. Well, NBC is the home of Notre Dame football...do you expect completely unbiased announcing?
  7. They've got to stop doing this to me...I end up scaring the dogs every week! GO IRISH!!!!!!!!
  8. If I'm looking at the numbers correctly, he started only 118 games and pinch hit in the other 12. That said, I'd still take a chance on Bonds.
  9. Do you think LSU would beat USC? P.S. Lets revisit this on Jan. 1 and talk about whether or not Georgia Tech is an elite team.
  10. Notre Dame 30, UCLA 17 What's your prediction?
  11. We beat USC last season with Bush and Leinert on the team. (Yes, we beat them. Bush's illegal move at the end gave USC a win they didn't earn.) What about this USC team makes you think they are so great?
  12. Frankly, I find that ridiculous. I'll say it right now...Cal will lose to USC and the Irish will beat USC in Southern Cal. We shall see. Cal will have a tough time since the game is in LA. If it was in Berkeley I'd be sure they'd pull it off. You really think ND is going to go to the stadium across the freeway from USC and beat them? Wow, we shall see. After seeing Ty Willingham nearly lead a team to victory at USC, I'm less than impressed with the Trojans.
  13. Frankly, I find that ridiculous. I'll say it right now...Cal will lose to USC and the Irish will beat USC in Southern Cal.
  14. Maybe, but both teams had a similar cast of characters last season and Notre Dame routed the Vol.s
  15. If you think that Cal is #7, then I find it hard to believe that Notre Dame isn't 7b. Compare the two seasons. Both have a big loss against a potentially top-5 team. Both have a win over a 15ish team (Oregon and Georgia Tech---and I don't think there's much doubt that Georgia Tech on the road is much, much tougher than a 4-2 Oregon team [they didn't truly beat Oklahoma]). Both have picked up "decent" wins (Cal- Arizona State; Notre Dame- Penn State). Don't let one primetime win against an overrated team make you think that Cal is better than what the polls say they are. 10-12 is right where they should be.
  16. I agree with you concerning some of these teams. Louisville beat Miami and won at Kansas State, which are good but not great wins. West Virginia has beaten no one. Clemson has beaten Florida State (a good, not great win) and their only loss is to a one-loss Boston College team (who incidently is a last-second TD away from being undefeated). USC's wins against Arkansas and Nebraska are both quality wins, in my opinion. Both of those teams will be top 15 teams at the end of the season. Georgia is way overrated and Missouri deserves to be ahead of them. Same goes for Iowa. LSU has beaten no one, but in their defense, they have lost to two of the better teams in the country. For what its worth, here's how I'd rate the top 15: 1. Ohio State 2. Florida 3. Michigan 4. USC 5. Tennessee 6. West Virginia 7. Louisville 8. Texas 9. Notre Dame 10. Cal 11. Georgia Tech 12. Auburn 13. Mizzou 14. Arkansas 15. Clemson
  17. And as usual they're on crack. What do you see is wrong with it? Just curious. Cal #6 is a joke. Missouri in the top 10 is ridiculous. No way does Mizzou play a Louisville, Notre Dame, Auburn, etc and beat them. No disrespect to Mizzou, but they've played a soft schedule to get to 6-0. Play Oklahoma or Texas and beat them and then we can talk. (Michigan behind Tennesse is also a mistake, but not a huge one.)
  18. I admit that I am biased against the Vols, but do you agree that Georgia hasn't looked like a top 10 team all season long? It pains me to say this, but Tennessee deserves to be the highest ranked 1-loss team right now. I'd actually put them in the top 5, behind OSU, UM, UF, and USC. No way in the world should they be behind WVU or Louisville (and I don't think the Irish or Auburn should be either). UT has a 1-point loss to one of the top three teams in the country, with wins over an underrated Cal team and now Georgia.
  19. They will be extremely close to Auburn also. Auburn was absolutely dominated by Arkansas, and they are going to drop similarly to how ND did..it will be close between them. We may also move ahead of Georgia, who is losing to UT. The Vols may leapfrog us though with this "quality" win.
  20. In 2001, when the Mariners won a league record 116 games, Piniella was without Griffey (traded to Cincy in the winter of '99), ARod (signed with Texas the winter of 2000), and Johnson (signed in Arizona in '99). He did have Edgar and a washed up Jay Buhner (played in 19 games that season). I'm not a Piniella fan, but lets make sure the facts are straight. He managed one of the best regular season teams of all time and didn't have the big weapons any more.
  21. Oh, and I agree with you, Goony, concerning Aramis. He has had his hustle moments, but I think its been blown out of proportion. I just don't want to hire a manager that just doesn't care whether or not the players hustle. At least on the surface, they should care.
  22. While that may be true at the professional level, as a coach it kills me to read a statement like that. That's funny, because I know quite a few football coaches who always talk about wanting the talented kid as opposed to the hustling grinder type. It's obligatory to praise the hustling grinder, but I think a lot of coaches would love the opportunity to coach a phenomenal talent, even if he has some hustle issues. And as bad as some want to paint the picture, Aramis isn't that bad in this department. It's not like he never walks, or never dives for balls and never hustles. He flakes from time to time, but not to the extent of Manny. Baseball isn't a balls out sport, you have to be calm and collected. No doubt, every coach wants the D1 stud on their high school team. But you have to set the standard for high school kids, and the kids with that type of talent we've had couldn't stick on the team because of attitude. That hurt us in the short run, but the culture we've established is changing the tone of the program and most importantly, is leading to the development of some fine young men.
  23. While that may be true at the professional level, as a coach it kills me to read a statement like that.
  24. They DESERVED one loss to OU, but Oregon is undefeated.
  25. I agree with everything you just wrote.
