  1. Now that the Cubs players aren't worried about trying to save Dusty's job, look for them to play much more relaxed and their OBP to go up.
  2. As close as we are to the deadline, I doubt we can make more than one trade, if we make one at all.
  3. It would make too much sense...trade a player who may not be here next year and doesn't hustle for a young potentially great arm and a prospect or two. It won't happen. Hendry usually gets the trades done, but doesn't usually trade for prospects for some reason. I still don't know how we got Murton in that deal. Hendry hasn't been a seller at the trade deadline before.
  4. I think that's a big part of it. As the above poster said, the same thing happened at Indiana with Mike Davis, and he is a very similar type of coach to Dusty Baker (easygoing, players like playing for him, bad fundamentially, makes stupid decisions, says crazy things to the media, media loves him, etc)
  5. That doesnt even make sense. The comparison isnt santana and Lee vs a FA pitcher and Ramirez. The comparison is Santana and Lee vs Lee, Ramirez, And a FA pitcher. Since when does keeping ramirez mean losing lee? Carlos Lee. Well, then why does keeping ramirez mean we cant sign Carlos lee AND a FA pitcher. We have woods contract coming off the books next year and we are a big market team. Money isnt our issue. Well, with the trade we could sign Lee and a pitcher alot easier. Just like ths past winter, when we had all that salary getting freed up, right? Couting on FA sighnings is a very risky move We're gonna have way, way more money if we move Aram than in the last offseason. Not to mention some of Marshall/Marmol/Hill/Guzman will be expendable.
  6. That doesnt even make sense. The comparison isnt santana and Lee vs a FA pitcher and Ramirez. The comparison is Santana and Lee vs Lee, Ramirez, And a FA pitcher. There's no guarantee that the Cubs will sign Zito and Schmidt, either If you know Aram is going to opt out of his deal anyway, there's no downside to this deal. It's basically two free players.
  7. You don't want to overvalue Aram either, just because we've historically had trouble filling the 3B spot. And we'd have a truckload of money to spend if you get rid if Aram is traded. If he wants out, you gotta make this deal.
  8. Oh man. Good times. Memories of earlier in the season when there still was hope. 15 game winning streak = cubs back in the WC race, believe it or not.
  9. Clutch certainly exists in other sports, so I see no reason why there shouldn't be clutch hitters in baseball.
  10. I want Gourriel and Y-S Lee bad... they were amazing in the WBC. It was just a pipe dream and now they're both available... they'd be way better values than a guy like Soriano or Carlos Lee.
  11. There's no reason not to trade anyone whose contract is up, and who we're not going to bring back, even if it's for a sack of peanuts.
  12. Well that was random. threw out one of the first pitches. He can motivate guys, he can yell, and he can sure as hell argue with the ump. He'd taunt LaRussa and Ozzie the whole year long. He's everything Dusty isn't.

  14. I just hope we trade for a prospect that's worth a crap with the guys that we're not going to bring back anyway. Get some fresh blood who might be able to contribute next year.
  15. Guess we'll see if Hill is a AAAA player tonight.
  16. Most of it is inept management. A small part of it is the power of collective negative mass consciousness and players buying into the "curse" nonsense".
  17. The bigger issue is they all have noodle arms except for Jacque, and he can't hit the broadside of a barn when he throws, not the range.
  18. You're nuts if you think any team would trade a ML-ready pitcher for Pierre at this point. Maybe if we had Derrek Lee to trade or something.
  19. If you're trading Aram, you might as well trade Zambrano, Prior, and Lee too, because you're blowing the team up. Try to win it all in 07 and 08... we have the payroll for it if the money is spent wisely.
  20. Did you even watch him when he moved down in the order in the WBC? He's got a complete game. He'll continue being a very good player.
  21. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=ArRM0tCD9IZUmUKB97vE7DIRvLYF?slug=jp-freeagents071406&prov=yhoo&type=lgns Seung-Yeop Lee (who went nuts in the WBC and has an over 1.000 OPS for the Yomiuri Giants so far) apparently is going to be available. It'd be funny to dump Jones and then sign him and Carlos Lee as the corner OF so we could have the Amazing Lee Brothers, Lee times 3, etc. Kinda surprised at the money Matsuzaka might get, too.
  22. That's just ridiclous... imagine what we could have gotten from the Reds for anyone in our pen. :( Kearns would go a long way to fixing our OF problems. I'd swap Cedeno for Lopez in a heartbeat, too.
  23. I think the Cubs could definitely have a $120 million dollar payroll, once you count in the revenue the Tribune hides in WGN.
