  1. Marlins and Dusty overpitching Vólquez and screwing him up.
  2. ok we did our part, help us out evil brewers and cards
  3. Dempster and Marmol's arms fall off :(
  4. NL Central owns the AL East so far tonight (except for the Reds)
  5. Definitely could use another dependable arm in the pen... whether that's from someone straightening themselves out/getting healthy, someone from the minors, or a trade doesn't matter. Bench looks pretty good once Soriano comes back. If we go to 11 pitchers at some point you'd like a RH bat with a little pop off the bench, but we're fine as long as we're carrying 12 pitchers. Still not out of the woods yet... after 3 at Houston we have... 3 @ Arizona 4 v.s. Florida 4 @ Milwaukee If we can get through that and maintain our lead, August looks a lot better. Obviously September is going to be tough too, but most of those games are against the Brewers and Cards so we'll control our own destiny.
  6. This will add fuel to the "Cubs stealing signs" conspiracy theory.
  7. Shoulda started the 9th and it would have saved a ton of drama.
  8. These guys need to get some outs so Lou doesn't go to Marmol and Wood.
  9. 98 mph fastball! Harden's speed range on his pitches is amazing... seems like he could throw any speed between from 98 to 83. His "changeup" and "fastball" blend together.
  10. Soto was interviewed on the CSN pre-game and talked about how he was going to catch Harden tomorrow.
  11. Woops, there goes the "78 games without an error streak" for Phillips that the Reds announcers have been bragging about all night. They also said that Zambrano was a "flyball pitcher" until this year.
  12. Z at 103 pitches through 8... do you leave him in for the 9th with the ASB coming up?
  13. Weak Division? In the last 5 seasons, when we haven't won the division (2004, 2005, 2006), a team from the NL Central has played in the World Series. The Central's the best division in baseball this year. You can't really blame Hendry for 2004 either... you definitely can for 2005/2006 though.
  14. Pujols bails us out with some Dusty Baker free-swinging.
  15. So it's a big game of whack a mole? I think someone else would notice guys' heads popping up and down depending on the pitch. Actually, it's not impossible. The dugout is angled so it's really hard to look at the game and the scoreboard at the same time (and you can't see the catcher's signs in the first place). So unless the manager/pitching coach are feeding signs to the catcher (which seems rare these days), they're not going to know what pitch is coming. All the members of the other team except the catcher are facing home plate. The catcher has to watch for the ball coming from the pitcher (ditto the ump). The crowd is focused on 1) the infield diamond and 2) talking to each other. If they are looking at the outfield scoreboard it'd be the ball/strike count. If you want to go even more "crackpot" conspiracy theory, since the Cubs own WGN and CSN, they could tip off the production crew not to film the scoreboard during the at-bats.
