    How are Vizquel's Gold Gloves a joke? Most of his career he's been a above average defender but not great. Check out his fielding rate. I can't believe he beat out Adam Everett last year.

    Omar Vizquel wins. Vizquel is definitely overrated. But Ozzie and Vizquel have about the same career OPS+ (87/84). Omar had more hits, more HRs, and he won't sniff the HOF. The defense alone isn't enough to justify the difference. I suspect Ozzie is underrated on NSBB. :wink: Ozzie was a better hitter and the greatest defensive SS of all-time while Vizquel's gold gloves are a joke. Vizquel played in an era when offense was expected from a SS (ARod, Garciaparra, Jeter) while Ozzie didn't. I think you'll be surprised how much support Vizquel's HOF candidacy receives.

    That reminds me of Eduardo Perez. His ability to mash left handed pitching made him a useful guy to stash on your bench.

    Untrue and you know it. he has the most overrated career 134 OPS+ ever ;) Oyster Burns gets my vote.

    A starters avg ERA+ is 95. Relief pitchers is around 105, I think. Additionally he'll get a boost switching leagues.

    I dont think anybody here is really that upset with losing Moore or Cherry, we all know they arent going to be anything special. However for a team trying to make the playoffs, our GM has made 3 trades this year, and every single one of them was a "hope to catch lightening in the bottle' type of trade. It sure would be nice if we could get a player under 35 years old, who has been good this year, that you dont have to hope is going to be good, but instead you say, :"hell yea he is going to help out". While in a vacuum, loosing Moore, Cherry, and Rapada is no big deal, but when you consider that instead of using them, our GM has or will sign mediocre/crappy veterans to multi-year multi-million dollar contracts, we just wasted about 4.5M/year to acquire two guys who will arguably hurt us for the rest of the season. This organization is horribly penny foolish and it adds up to hurt them. Isn't this a little defeatist? You claim they should have kept junk like Cherry and Moore because you know the Cubs sign a crappy player instead. The deal makes some sense.

    Trachsel is a useful arm for unloading groceries or laying sod. As a pitcher, he's one of MLB's worst. You've heard of addition by subtraction? Welcome to subtraction by addition. This isn't terrible: His ERA+ is 99 which makes him an above average starter. He's pretty useful.

    I don't think this is a horrible deal. Trachsel is a useful arm and Moore and Cherry aren't very interesting players. Maybe the Cubs will catch lightening in a bottle ala Jeff Weaver.

    Game threads are emotional journeys that aren't suppose to make sense. This was worse than normal. If I wasn't a moderator who knew stuff would come up in the thread, I'd have bailed. Fair enough. I guess I missed most of the really annoying drama.
