  1. Rob Neyer in his chat today... http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=10235
  2. On ESPN Rumors today... Looks like Prior is indeed on the table. http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/features/rumors
  3. Not to be a troll but another hidden "gottcha" to this deal is Tejada's salary.
  4. I agree about Reggie. I'm not sure who I'd "want" more. Juan is younger and was better last year but Jones has a "better" track record. Funny part is, arguing about who is better between Juan Encarnacion and Jacque Jones is like arguing whether milk that has been sitting out in the sun all day or milk that is a month past its due date tastes better. Christmas has truly come early in the CardsFanInChiTown household this year. :x
  5. You should ALWAYS feel bad about JJ. :P

  7. Hendry is killing the Cards by overpaying and screwing up the market. :pukel:
  8. It's being reported on STL radio. edit - For 3\15m
  9. Doesn't Mauer have knee problems? I think he might be an AL type catcher/DH from here on. Yeah, he's pretty borderline, however I prefer postion players.
  10. Just because the fact that Prior took line drive off his pitching arm was freaky and not his fault doesn't mean it's not a concern. Prior understandably didn't look right after coming back last year. It's reasonable to believe it will effect his trade value. edit - That said, I would not trade Tejada for Prior if I were the Cubs
  11. Although I'm sure I'm missing a few here's my "Guys I'd trade Prior straight up for" list: Alex Rodriguez Albert Pujols Jason Bay Michael Young Miguel Cabrera Travis Hafner Mark Teixeira David Wright Chase Utley Victor Martinez Grady Sizemore Joe Mauer (kind of funny when you think about it) Rickie Weeks Johan Santana Dontrelle Willis Joe Blanton Ben Sheets Carlos Zambrano (Think Hendry could pull this one off?) Roy Oswalt (I'm not sure about his contract) Jake Peavy (maybe) It should be noted for health reasons I perfer position players. Also, I didn't base this list on actual Cub needs.
  12. Its because a Cardinals fan could never really know true pain. Only us poor Cubs fans. I.. I.. http://members.roadfly.com/keithm3/cubs%20believe.JPG
  13. So you're giving all the positives of Zito and then describing Prior only as a guy who hasn't pitched a full season. I don't get the point. Are we talking about some third rate middle relief prospect coming of back to back tommy john surgeries? Are we talking about a 20 year old starting pitcher? Zito- full package Prior- full package The majority of baseball would value Prior higher. I'd rather have Prior however I don't think it's crazy to value Zito more. Zito has proven to be a durable effective pitcher. Factoring in relative cost, you have to value Prior more, but, leaving that out, it's not completely ridiculous to value Zito more. Leaving out relative cost is what would be ridiculous. That's true, I didn't factor in that Zito will be a FA in 07.

  15. I believe a lot of it is related to everyone's favorite toothpick sucker and the seemingly unquestioning love the brass has for him. Pitchers know they can't talk about wanting to come out of games. And they'll get blasted if they question the manager's overuse of them. But they have to trust the pitching coach and manager will look out for them. Dusty never looks out for his pitchers. And while one of his jobs is to deflect blame away from players, he'll never do that either. It would not surprise me at all if a pitcher hated Dusty. I agree. Prior didn't even pitch the whole year but check this out... http://www.baseballprospectus.com/statistics/sortable/index.php?cid=25 Prior would make atleast 30 starts a year w\o dusty
  16. I think the Cubs would also want to have 3-5m in reserves for a midseason pick.
  17. That's key. He needs to be in the opening day rotation. I don't mind them having someone around to push Reyes. I like the signing, Ponson is the type of guy Duncan could do wonders with.
  18. BINGO I don't advacate the trading of Z or Prior, but that is a very realistic point. Remember not trading Sammy in 01 I think? Big mistake. Hindsight is always 20/20. That is seriously financial irresponsibility on the Cubs' behalf, especially considering the contracts they just handed out to Jock, Eyre, and Howry. I don't think so. They were burned on the Sosa and Wood contracts and handing out a long term deals to both of those pitchers may scare the heck out them. Burnett just got a 5/55 and both of these guys are going to get bigger deals then this. Also, who really knows if Prior or Z really want to remain in Chicago? I'm not sayin they don't but I have no idea how they really feel about playing there. If both are Boras guys they will get maximum value in the FA market. Interesting point.
  19. I believe it was stated before, and I would agree: Miguel Cabrera Albert Pujols edit: Maybe Arod if the Yankees ate a lot of the money and you could move him back to short. Young position players? I would add... Jason Bay Michael Young Grady Sizemore Victor Martinez Travis Hafner Mark Teixeira David Wright Chase Utley Not all those guys make sense for the Cubs tho...
  20. All work and no play makes BalsaWoodKeyBoard a very dull boy. All work and no play makes BalsaWoodKeyBoard a very dull boy. All work and no play makes BalsaWoodKeyBoard a very dull boy. All work and no play makes BalsaWoodKeyBoard a very dull boy.
  21. Cubs Get: Harden, Tejada, Bedard, cash, prospects Orioles Get: Prior and Zito Athletics Get: A lot of really good prospects likely involving Rich Hill and Nick Markakis That I could live with. Oh come on, that's just silly.
  22. If the O's did that deal it'd be epic bad. It'd be one of those deals O's fans would talk about in disgust 50 years later.
