I remember there were rumblings Manny would go there but nothing definitive. I don't know if there would be a log jam but however they could add Burnitz to help off set salaries.

Pierre's not crap and was Prior really on the block? I'm not buying Levine's "report" hook, line and sinker. I'm buying pieces of Levine's report (Cubs interest in Tejada, and Orioles wanting pitching and Pie), but I have never believed Prior was offered up, especially so early in the negotiation. If he was, it should tell us a lot about Hendry's confidence in Wood and Guzman. I'm pretty sure Prior was on the table but they wanted Z. I could be wrong though.

i was at that game. that was the one start prior missed after coming off the DL, so i got to see cy rusch. i went out to my car to find a flat tire after the game, too. what a terrible day. i was very disappointed. I remember all my coworkers were rubbing that game in my face until things went all wrong for the Cubs. Satisfying series for me to say the least. :wink:

I don't think anyone who played in Montreal could be considered overrated. The man got almost no publicity while toiling as an Expo. I disagree, while there he placed 2nd in the MVP vote twice. Sure, but the general public didn't see a lot of him. Imagine the attention he'd have garnered with those seasons in New York, or even somewhere like Cincinnati. Montreal was a black hole. Exactly. Metrics canot tell you about his professionalism and hustle, and the fact that he played on two gimpy knees for most of his career, yet put up HOF-like nos. In addition, he had an absolute rocket arm that was highly accurate (think Vlad Guerrero). Not to mention his performance in 87' was unmatched during that decade; I mean no one came close to putting up nos. like that during the 80's. Over the past three years Z has almost completely shut down the Cards, but only has a 4-3 record to show for it. In 11 starts, his BAA vs Stl is .205, WHIP = 1.02, 69 K's in 85 IP ... but only 4-3, that's just criminal. I was at wrigley in mid 04 when Z got tossed for plucking Edmonds twice. Ugh. I hate hendry so much. Why why why does he want to trade walker? I'm sick of Hendry and his douchbaggery. Also, vance, i'd pull that trade in a second. I doubt hendry would though. Miles said he is going to get delt but he also said hendry didn't believe nefei was an everyday player. I would guess that's why Hendry wants Tejada so bad - Walker might be his only other option. If he's dead set on trading Walker I would guess it'd be for a good glove 2B or SS. :shrug:

Welcome to NASDAQ circa January 2000. The difference is those guys were free agents, and have better resumes than Garland. Prior to 2005, nobody would have thought Garland had a chance for 3/30. When value spikes that quickly I'd be concerned. Matt Mo's 3/27 mirrors all the 3/27m deals signed by that mediocre crop of last year. While Burnett's $11m per year is in line with what a lot of top arms get, even if he isn't really a top pitcher. Is the market surging after a few years of a bear market? Sure. However the real question is when do you expect another market crash? If you think it's next year fine. However, if you think it's in 5 years well then you have a problem. edit - what makes burrentt's deal just as nuts because he can't be insured for more than 3 years.

If the medication prescribed by a doctor was the cause for his irrational behavior should be really be held "accountable for his actions"? That is something the courts will have to work out. If they totally let him off every crackpot will start using that as a defense and I don't think the court will want to set that kind of precedence. Just my opinion of how things will work out, not saying it is right or wrong, I am just saying. Even though the medication may have made him act irrationally I still feel there has to be some kind of personal accountability (Even if it is just community service or something of that nature) People getting "let off" for reasons of insanity is a completely over reported by the media and an overused plot device by Hollywood. Did you know Jeffery Dahmer wasn’t found insane by the courts? How you can punish a person for insane behavior from doctor prescribed medicine? That’s just irrational. I didn't say anything about an insanity defense, what I meant was more of extenuating circumstances. I know insanity pleas don't work. Less than .1% (or something like that) of people that use that ever get off. I was refering to this... Sorry if I'm draging this out too much. I had a person in my life effected by mental illness and the stigma attached to it so I’m pretty sensitive about it. I don't want to put words in your mouth however certain people believe that a person with certain mental illinesses has a choice with their actions when in reality they don't. I understand Reardon problem was probly due to meds not a disease like schizophrenia but the quote above really bugs me. Nothing personal. Anyway back to baseball!

I can understand you not liking the deal however what Burrnett and Morris got are relavant because those deals set the market. If every deal is "overpaying" when do you stop considering it overpaying? In context of the other deals handed out this offseason I don't think this is an unreasonable deal.

Murton, Pie, and Hill are nice but Jason Bay had the 5th highest VORP in baseball last year. That's higher than Miguel Cabrera, Miguel Tejada, Vladimir Guerrero and Manny Ramirez. He's a budding superstar.

Actually I can't see them giving up Aaron Heilman for that. well if they want to get rid of Matsui they are going to have give a team some incentive. Yeah but Heilman? Plus he's throwing in cash for Matsui.
