  1. Wouldn't PO many Cards fans. Most of them are sick of Ozzie whining. :?: Not a single one of the many that I know. I know plenty including myself.
  2. Does anyone else find it humorous that everyone's tossing out their "marquee" FA outfielder they got in the offseason. I'll see your Burnitz, your Wilson, your Jones, and raise you Encarnacion! I heard the Royals have interest in a Pujols for Sanders deal.
  3. Was it in the middle of a horrible time for the Cubs? And was the poll phrased Aren't the Cardinals way better than the Cubs? Cause that would be analogous. I think it was, I don't really remember. I got an email from a mod about it.
  4. The Cubs should wait at least a few more weeks before starting a firesale. Besides the Cubs would get more value closer to the deadline.
  5. Not all of our perceptions have changed. The example you set forth above lends credence to those of us that believe that deal wasn't a fleecing, but rather a logical result of being at the right place, at the right time, with the right periphrial circumstances. That is to say, the ARam deal didn't require a genius to construct. The Pirates were hamstrung by salary and inept organizational direction. Hendry needed a 3B and the Pirates were an obvious fit. However, if you look closely at that deal and recall the circumstances surrounding, there exists room for criticism as Hendry allowed Pittsburgh to hold the Cubs hostage with the PTBNL (who ended up being Hill). Recall that Grudz got injured and was out for an extended period. The only logical replacement for the Cubs was Bobby Hill. Whether you are a Hill hater or not, he would have been nice to have on hand during Grudz's injury. However, Hendry's lack of foresight failed to recognize that giving the Pirates a number of days to choose between Hill and Beltran hurt the club due to its lack of middle infield options. Hendry if not remotely the GM some hold him out to be. if it was so easy, why didn't one of the allegedly smarter gm's pull it off then? Timing and need, if I had to guess. OK, not trolling but... At the time the Cubs were one of the only teams in baseball that could add significant amount payroll, ditto on the DLee trade. That said, Hendry should be credited with the Nomar and Hawkins deals.

  7. Whatever, troll. COBS Sox CARDZ RULE!!!!1111ONEONE!!!!!!!
  8. My first post on here was a poll (in the wrong forum no less) asking posters "If they thought the Cubs were better or worse then the Cardinals". I'm sure some users thought I was trolling (and rightfully so) but I wasn't. Seriously JDE, stick around.
  9. You are correct sir! Well congratulations to us then. Isn't Albert GREAT?! Puts a smile on my face just saying the name. I know you also post on CardsTalk, correct? I post there frequently. Why don't you go back to Cardstalk and leave us alone to wollow in our misery. Mods please lock this thread and ban this guy. This is trollery (is that a word?) and its lowest. Seriously, this was not intended to be trollish. I have never even posted here before and am not trying to stir things up. In fact, I just saw the video this morning and thought it was nicely done. Not so much for who it was about, but for how it was pieced together. I will leave. Stick around, most Cub fans over here are pretty cool.
  10. I believe their payroll is larger than the Cubs now.
  11. I wanted to post this before any Cub fan did. Anyway, it's for a great cause. Link
  12. I like how you bring that up after Z had his best start of the season, 7 shutout innings. Let's wait and see on this. Hopefully he just got off to a slow start. I was joking, Z will be fine.
  13. I'm not sure if this has been posted but there is a Felix Pie write up on John Sickels blog MinorLeagueBall.com here.
  14. Maybe there's something to being fat... Fat Z > Skinny Z
  15. Is this game as painful as the box score suggests?
  16. I found Stone to be tedious and annoying in a Tim McCarver sort of way. It's odd but the more I learn about baseball the more I enjoy guys like Santo or Chip announcing a game. Maybe I like to listen to guys who I'd actually like to have a beer with.

  18. So what did everyone have for dinner last night? I had a cheese burger and some pretzels.
  19. I sure as heck do, besides I'm sure he'd play LF.
  20. An update: I need to make a correction to last week's Jim Edmonds piece. It was pointed out to me that Jay Jaffe modified his calculation of the JAWS score, taking into account a longer peak that wasn't defined by consecutive seasons. I calculated Edmonds' peak using the original, five-consecutive-year definition. Under the new method, the Hall of Fame vs. Jimmy looks like this: NEW BRAR BRAA FRAA Career Peak JAWS Avg HOF CF 731 478 0 108.8 63.4 86.1 Edmonds 555 371 106 98.3 78.2 88.3 *JAWS: (Career WARP + Peak WARP) / 2 Edmonds is already comparable to the average Hall of Fame center fielder. If he retired today, he'd be a good candidate for induction. He's likely to add to his case over the next few seasons, and will retire as a clear Hall of Famer. I think some posters on here are discounting his defense and the fact the he played CF. That said, he's no slamdunk.
  21. Vance what did you think of Busch III?
