  1. Don't try these jedi mind tricks on us, pal. His funky arm slot screams shoulder injury. 1) Huge career workloads for a young pitcher. 2) Walk rate went up by 33% in 2006. 3) Coming into 2006 he had a career GB rate of 1.89. In 2006 it was 1.31. Seriously, is there any doubt? I know they are different pitchers but Z reminds me of Mulder and Hudson. I wonder if the Cubs sale is the REAL reason they haven't signed him to an extension.
  2. It's pretty clear Z is injured.
  3. The Cubs and NSBB have once again proved to be very classy organizations.
  4. The worst mistake a football team can make is to sit on their hands and say " We are happy with our team, we don't need to improve" All I know is I waited 6 hours for the first Bears pick...and I got 20 more picks to go for the second. Oh well. Sigh. They only have so many roster spots. ...You honestly believe that they can't draft people that can at least take back up or practice squad spots?? Possibly, they have a pretty talented team. Perhaps Eric Weddle was the only player left they felt could make an impact for them. Maybe they are worried about cap space. Hording picks is nice but sometimes you have to go get "your guy".

  7. I bet Dallas deals this pick.

  9. This isn't going to impact the speed of the forum, not that speed is an issue anyway. Besides, users who lurk but want the "thread viewed" functionality (http://www.northsidebaseball.com/PremiumForum/templates/subSilver/images/folder_new_big.gif) might be impacted.
  10. God, Cubs are so lucky. They make a deal for Michael Barrett and he suddenly turns into a middle-of-the-order Silver Slugger. Geez, does everything they touch turn to gold? I always liken pitchers in St. Louis to running backs in Denver. It's their system. It's their defense and their pitching coach. It's not luck. It's way too early to take Looper's numbers seriously, though. Through 7 starts (and one relief appearance) last year, Sidney Ponson had a 2.93 ERA. Ponson's peripherals weren't nearly as good as Loopers at this point. Looper isn't great but as long as he doesn't wear down I think he'll be Suppan 2.0.
  11. I'm not referring to NSBB posters but I noticed a lot of people who called him "soft" didn't understand young pitching is more fragile then veteran pitching.
  12. I know a lot of people in Chicago who called Prior soft... From BP's Kevin Goldstein: Link
  13. You sound like a Rex Sox or White Sox fan about 5 years ago. Curses do not exist.
  14. Here's the whole quote:
  15. cept like, actually good at baseball. And not playing woefully out of position. Eck isn't a bad defensive SS. His arm is weak however he has a quick release.
  16. he was asking too much. the truth is, despite jones' numbers last season, there aren't a lot of modern GM's in the market for an undisciplined hitter. Well, I think a "modern" GM, or any GM for that matter, who finds himself in need of an additional OF, maybe to complement a younger RH bat in a platoon or to solve an injury problem, can appreciate a player who can: *play a capable CF *.850 OPS against RH *under reasonable contract terms for this year and the next Before last year he hadn't put up an .850 OPS against RH since 2002. Hendry worked hard to deal him in the off-season and he couldn't. The Cubs couldn't trade Jones until they found the stopgap CF that they wanted to start the season with-they never found that player before Soriano agreed to play CF. That was the failure. Hendry was trying to trade Jones from day one. Rumor had it he wanted out of Chicago and JH tried to accommodate him. Going in to the off-season if was a forgone conclusion he was going to get traded but there was no market for him.

  18. yes, i did see that stat on yahoo. but those guys are just slumpin, ur lucky u dont have izturis, blanco, and jones. u guys have pujols, edmonds, rolen, that little dweeb eckstein, who all usually have high averages. its just early season slumps, thats all. not to mention ur manager has won in the past 17 years, unlike ours True, however Preston Wilson is the Anti-Christ. Can you claim your lineup features the Anti-Christ? No, you can't. We suffered through two years of Neifi Perez. That's what I thought. [-X Cards line this year: .229 AVG / .302 OBP / .334 SLG / .636 OPS Neifi Perez's career line: .268 AVG / .298 OBP / .376 SLG / .674 OPS
  19. "Sweet" Lou seemed to do the most crying yesterday.
  20. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?id=2844416 You don't have anywhere near it takes to get him. Says the guys who just posted this: Says the guy whose favorite team got Scott Rolen for Placido Polanco and Bud Smith. Or Mark McGwire for a bag of balls. Actually, I agree with you, the thread is more of a joke.
  21. Marquis because there's no such thing as points in baseball.
