  1. That's why I laugh when anyone brings up a reliever's ERA.
  2. very good point I was thinking that too. Then I realized anyone who can't pick up the sarcasm in a Jacque Jones and Cesar Izturis for ARod trade, is a moron and I don't care if they are apart of NSBB. Now if you wanna talk about the joke being overused, I can get on board with that. On sports talk radio though and several message boards I've seen, people propose trades like that all the time-and they are completely serious. This board isn't exactly immune from that sort of thing http://www.northsidebaseball.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?p=1296556#1296556 Excuse me, but what exactly is crazy about that? Salty's stock has fallen considerably. If you disagree with the idea, fine. Don't imply that I don't know what I'm talking about, please. Salty's stock has fallen so much the Braves called him up to Atlanta. I'm confused. Are premier prospects the only ones called up to the major leagues? Look, the guy is Pie's age and hit .230 in AA last year. He had ONE GOOD YEAR in high A ball. He was a top prospect two years ago. He is still a prospect, but his stock has fallen. I fail to see what is controversial about this. If his name was Frank Smith, no one would even know who he is.

  4. Whether or not Towers is bad (he is) really doesn't take away from the fact that he's basically just telling the truth. Sosa is in the majors because he can hit mistakes for homeruns. That's it. He has looked absolutely terrible at the plate. Remember the summer of 2004, when Sosa was flailing at almost everything? He's worse than that now.
  5. What, exactly, is Izturis' value to this team again?
  6. Yes, it does, because 90% of baseball is right handed. And where did this idea come from that he cant hit righties, anyway? He's batting in the upper .280's with an OBP of .350 lifetime against righties. Granted, it is better against lefties...but it's not like he cant hit righties The fact is, the organizational philosophy is that you make a RHP face your toughest lefties, if only to disrupt his rhythm. This is not going to change. We have to live with it.
  7. Are we all talking about the same Saltalamacchia that is Pie's age and hit .230 in AA last year? The same one that has put up only one .800+ OPS in his minor league career? Don't get me wrong, his high A year was great, but his stock has dropped considerably. Jones + cash would be enough, IMO
  8. Just for the record, I was referring to the organization's philosophy, not my own. It's been that way for some time, and if it doesn't change for a very good, young, cheap hitter, then it's time to realize that it's not going to change at all. I guess I'm just in the "accept it and move on" phase. I hate seeing Matt rot on the bench, and he has nothing left to prove in the minors. We could get something substantial for a Murton/Marmol package...
  9. I really think we have to put the idea of Murton being an everday player for the Cubs behind us. We just don't have enough left-handed hitters. Between Jones, Floyd and Pie, two of them will ALWAYS be in the lineup when facing RHP. Not having any lefties in the infield is hurting us.
  10. If he's really only going to play against LHP, then AAA is the best option. I'm really just shocked (I don't know why) that anyone would consider only playing Murton against LHP with this roster. Shocked. I shouldn't be surprised (and to some extent, I'm not) but it's absurd. It really doesn't have that much to do with Murton. It has to do with the fact that we have no left handed bats in the infield (save Izturis, and he doesn't count), so we have to get left handers in the lineup somehow (cubs organizational philosophy). That means the left handed bats HAVE to come from CF and RF, hence, no Murton. Except none of that actually HAS to happen. I completely agree with you, but I'm shocked at how many people are surprised by this. It is not a new development. I guarantee you that if Pie hit from the right side, he would be in AAA right now.

  12. Matt Murton will not play against righties unless we get a big left-handed bat in the infield. All of our lefties are in the outfield, so when facing a righty, they are going to play.
  13. Well, it's not like Izturis wouldn't have hit into one on the next pitch anyway.
  14. Called it. Don't be too proud, my invalid grandmother just predicted the same thing.
  15. People keep asking about Murton, but it's obvious he is only going to start against left-handers. We don't have many lefties, so the ones we do have in the outfield (two of Jones, Floyd, Pie) are going to start against right-handers. I really don't think this is going to change unless we get a big left-handed bat for the infield.
  16. I have a feeling the offense will come to life tonight and score 8-10 runs, but Rich Hill will only need 1.
  17. Cedeno's gonna hit one in Glenallen territory.
  18. Wow, Brenly went off on the umpiring. I can't believe he did that.
  19. Now you would think that catch would create some momentum.......
  20. Unfortunately for Murton, he uses the RH batters box. There are not many LH hitters on this team, so the ones they have are going to be in the lineup against righties. That is why Murton is not playing.
