  1. Dude is above a 1.300 OPS over his last 20 games. I understand he can't come up, but this guy doesn't need to prove anymore at Iowa. He's gonna win RoY next year.
  2. No matter who you'd like the targets to be, consolidation should top the to-do list this offseason. Starting pitching depth and OF prospects are strengths. The IF and the top of the rotation are weaknesses. Stroman Steele Thompson Sampson Hendricks Wesneski Assad Kilian Mills Alzolay are all guys who could feasibly start a game next season, and that doesn't include most of the Iowa rotation. Canario Davis PCA Hill Perlaza Nwogu Pinango Cassie will all be at Tennessee or Iowa in 2023. It makes a lot of sense, packaging some of these guys to upgrade in the aforementioned areas of need.
  3. His numbers are actually a bit worse since Aug. 1st, but I get your point. He's had a nice stretch here lately.
  4. I know there's a 40-man crunch, but the guy is so clearly ready.
  5. I don't understand why he isn't getting major league PAs at this point.
  6. I can't believe they won this game.
  7. I knew that penalty was going to work out for SF. This team is very very bad.
  8. That was bad.
  9. Is Varsho worth blocking the torrent of OF coming up? Offensively he's basically Wisdom, though obviously he has real defensive value. I'd hate to give up a chunk of the farm and block our top prospects for a .310 OBP in CF. I understand the inclination to skip the SS market, but improving the IF via FA makes a lot of sense when you look at the farm.
  10. Who is closing out the season strong? A couple of hitters: Perlaza (last 220 PAs) .283/.373/.628 .426 wOBA Nwogu (160 PAs) .289/.358/.611 .422 wOBA I really like that, for both of these guys, the #s aren't propped up by Avg and BABIP. There's real SLG there. On the other end is Pinango (236 PAs) .223/.275/.318 .274 wOBA
  11. Uh, Hughes is very good.
  12. His last month has been fantastic
  13. This is spot on. In addition to this plan, you could look to turn Thompson or, more likely, Steele into an TOR upgrade via trade. Add prospects from the coming OF logjam at both Tennessee (PCA/Cassie/Nwogu/Pinango) and Iowa (Davis/Perlaza/Canario/Hill) next season Steele/Davis/Nwogu/Made for Nola? Steele/Davis/Wicks/Hernandez for Ohtani? (Was looking at Gallen but he's probably unaffordable after this run) Rodon Nola Stroman Thompson Hendricks
  14. I just don't want some Ortega-type taking away PAs from Mervis, and I'd rather see $ spent on the rotation than on Josh Bell if we have a solid chance getting 80% of his production from within. I like the idea of an OF/1B to provide some insurance, though.
  15. Ground rule double for Brennan.
  16. Do we just pencil in Mervis as the everyday 1B for 2023? I'm about there.
  17. Glad they built a team that doesn't strike out so much.
  18. Down one and down to their last strike, Mervis doubles to tie the game for Iowa.
  19. On mlbtv they came back early before the top of the 3rd and Ross was putting on the headset. He was saying, sarcastically, "Well, at least the pace is good. Jesus Christ. I almost went out there myself "
  20. Just call Mervis up already and let him play everyday.
  21. I think this is where a good portion of the schism lies. Contreras has a 132 wRC+, which, for catchers, is #1 in the NL and #2 in MLB behind Alejandro Kirk. If you are #1 in the league, that's elite, right?
  22. I mean, I understand that we can trade our good hitters for prospects and then use those prospects to bolster the roster, either via trade or by calling them up. I would simply argue that, as currently constructed, and considering how few good offensive catchers there are currently in MLB, that signing Willson Contreras to a reasonable contract, if possible, would be a smart move. If the dude demands 6 years, by all means, good luck and godspeed. If 3-4 years @ ~20/yr is possible, bring him back. It will go a long way toward lengthening that lineup. If my choices are: Turner @ 35/yr + Hoerner + Hedges or Hoerner + Madrigal + Contreras @ 20/yr, I'll take this one and use the $$$ toward the rotation or Bell or something <---- I'm also a proponent of signing Happ to a reasonable extension if possible. He's a switch hitter who just turned 28 and has been the 6th most valuable OF in the NL this season. You want to contend, he should stay on the team. You can still bolster the roster in the same way as before. Bring prospects up. Trade prospects. Between Davis/PCA/Canario/Alcantara/Pinango, etc. we can find another OF or two and upgrade the hell out of the rotation via trade.
  23. So subtract Contreras and Happ, add one of the FA SS and the lineup looks pretty rough to me. Would need a hell of a pitching staff to contend. Turner SS Hoerner 2B Reyes DH Morel CF Suzuki RF Mervis 1B Velazquez LF Wisdom 3B Gomes C
  24. Spending on the lineup and trading to strengthen the rotation could work, too. Sign Willson, one of the SS and a pen arm Go big after two younger, TOR types, and be willing to pay a premium for them (as opposed to the reclamation route) Spitballing: Alcantara, Wicks, Marquez and Amaya for Zac Gallen Thompson, Triantos, Preciado, Herz for Jesus Luzardo Gallen Luzardo Stroman Steele Hendricks 1. Turner, SS 2. Nico, 2B 3. Willson, C 4. Happ, LF 5. Reyes, DH 6. Suzuki, RF 7. Mervis, 1B 8. Morel, CF 9. Wisdom, 3B
